NEW LISTING!! Modern lake home w/beach, hot tub & beautiful "Wall of Windows."

Bedrooms 5
Half Baths1
Space 3,600 sq ft
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

An architectural gem with a three-story wall of glass inspired by a boat sail! This beautiful, unique home has been in the family since the lake was created in the early 1970s. The home you see now was built on the foundation of the original lake house in 2003. Lots of special design details create a one-of-a-kind lake house experience. Five bedrooms with 3.5 baths and quite of bit extra space for air mattresses.

The house is nestled on a large, almost 1 acre lot with lots of trees and privacy, but also a wide open view of the lake. The "neighborhood" and cove are both very quiet, but also accessible. There is a large, sandy beach shared with our wonderful next door neighbors that is partially shaded throughout the whole day so you can enjoy the sun, or cool off in the shade! Please be respectful of our neighbor's use of their side of the beach. It's easy and comfortable to spend the whole day down on the beach! There is a also a boat dock with table, chairs, and umbrella, and a swim ladder on the end of the dock. The house has a screened-in porch on the main level, and an open lower porch, both of which have nice views of the water. There is a large grill on the lower patio, which is propane on one side and charcoal on the other so you can have it both ways! Just outside of the upper screened porch is a hot tub.

The main living area of the house is very open and light with portions that are up to 30ft high ceilings due to the unique design. The wall facing the lake is all glass, three stories tall working up to a point that looks similar to the sail of a boat. There are sitting areas on all three levels that offer beautiful, relaxing views of the lake year round. The small landing up on the top level has a love seat and telescope for looking out over the lake. The two bedrooms on the main level also have the same high ceilings and large windows (but not a total wall of glass like the living area). The master bath has a large, custom tiled shower, and garden tub.

The custom stair case from the main living area to the second level is an absolute work or art. It consists of a steel spine, wood stair treads, glass, and stainless steel cables. A spiral stair case goes down from the main living area to the large basement level where there is another large living room, two more bedrooms and a full bathroom. There is access to the lower unscreened porch from the lower living room.

In front of the porches and below the big living room windows is a nicely manicured, flat zoysia grass lawn. Closer to the lake the yard transitions into a moss covered hill that gently slopes down toward the water. On one side there is a path to the dock, and on the other side there is a path down to the beach.

Plenty of parking! There is a long circular driveway around the front of the house and extra paved parking beside and behind the garage. Behind the garage the parking pad is two cars wide.

About Allen Nelson

Rentals of this unique and beautiful home are managed by the granddaughter, and her husband, of the man who originally purchased this wonderful property in the early 70's. We're both Charlotte natives, love Charlotte, but also love getting out of the city to enjoy the lake house ourselves with friends and the rest of the family when the house isn't being rented. It's a very special place to the family, with decades of wonderful memories, and we'd love to share it with your family too!

Allen Nelson purchased this house in 1972

Why Allen Nelson chose Denver

Beautiful, relaxing and special all year long, no matter the weather or season. Due in large part to the unique design/architecture, it's equally enjoyable to sit on the couch in the main living area with it's three story wall of glass watching sailboats or the evening sunset, as it is to see a powerful storm system move across the lake in a real-life super wide screen high definition kind of way that only this house offers!

With a dock, screened-in porch, hot tub, and large sandy beach we doubt you'll ever be spending too long on the couch though! Truly a special home and experience!!

What makes this house unique

Three story "wall of windows" in the main living area, an upper screened-in porch, and hot tub which all offer a beautiful and secluded view of the lake. The location is private and quite, yet still very close to everything you need. An easy 30-35 minute drive out highway 16/Brookshire from the heart of downtown Charlotte. Great for families and also small retreats.

Unique home with a stunning view

  • 5 of 5

Our family loved this unique home. The view of the lake is stunning and the screened-in porch is wonderful for relaxing at any time of the day. The almost private beach was the highlight -- we rented paddle boards and had the cove to ourselves most of the time for swimming and exploring. Allen was a great host, extremely responsive and left very clear instructions in the house about everything. The neighborhood is beautiful and very quiet, yet close to all kinds of stores.

A nice relaxing, winter weekend at the lake!

  • 5 of 5

Overall, the house was in great shape and was plenty large enough to accommodate four couples. It was right on the water and the wall of windows was stunning to look through both night and day. Everything we needed to grill out or cook in the kitchen was easily accessible. The hot tub in the winter was absolutely perfect as well.

Allen was extremely responsive and helpful with any questions that I had.

I only had a couple minor complaints: 1- the heating/ duct work in the house seems a bit off (some rooms were super hot and others were chilly no matter the temperature that was set) 2- the fireplaces are not usable (which was a bit of a downer for the winter).

I would definitely stay here again though, probably during the summer months to enjoy the lake and to be outside more!

Very Lovely Home

  • 3 of 5

Our family had a wonderful Thanksgiving in this beautiful lake front home the view is outstanding. Allen was easy to communicate with and made sure he responded timely.

A few downsides to our stay was as follows. We arrived to a dirty stove and refrigerator as well as the owner personal food items in the refrigerator. That made it difficult for us when it came to needed refrigeration seeing that our sole purpose was to have family Thanksgiving dinner and our stay was for 5 days. One of the bathrooms had a cracked toilet seat in which a few of our family members were bruised due to the broken seat. The second level of the home was filled with the owners paint products etc. which made the 2nd floor unusable. We found that many things were not child nor adult friendly and possibly harmful eg. large glue containers, cans of butane fuel etc. We expected that as renters all areas of the home were to be usable and free of debris more importantly safe! The listing on the site shows the 2nd floor free of clutter and personal belongings and that is what we expected, We should've been made aware of this prior to booking. Allen inform us that the "yard would be cleaned but because of the time of the year it wouldn't look like it." We arrived to leaves, branches all over the property however; the neighbors on both sides property were noticeably different. My family took some time to clear leaves and branches from the patio and front driveway so that the children can play and not be injured etc.

Overall this is a lovely home and because it is an occupied residence we had a lot to choose from when it came to utensils household items etc. This was our 1st HomeAway rental and next time we will know to ask more specific questions that meets our family needs. We have an resilient family and had one of the best Thanksgivings ever in a beautiful location...

Beautiful view of the lake. Peaceful setting.

  • 5 of 5

Lovely kitchen and view of the lake from nearly every room. Loved the porch for relaxing. Stittng on the dock was also enjoyable. Sailboats coming through in a "parade" accross the lake on Saturday was a nice surprise. Owner was prompt to provide information ahead of check in. Good experience for a family retreat.
