About Paula & Val
We love where we live and want you to enjoy it too! We moved from Boston to Westport in 2011 after vacationing here for many years. Paula grew up nearby and returned to the region with a new appreciation for its unique beauty. After 6 years, we have fully embraced our transformation to "country mice". We are active and enjoy running, swimming, cycling, and kayaking. We also enjoy cooking and love discovering new places to eat. We are happy to help provide recommendations or let you explore the Southcoast on your own.
Paula & Val purchased this Guest House in 2011

Ad said kayaks for guest use. Ad depicted water abutting property. Both not true. Loft was as beautiful as depicted. No a/c, not disclosed. Loft temperature runs 82-88 for most of the day, stifling despite 2 ceiling fans and a window fanon high. They told about the kayak problem 2 days in advance so I brought my own. I stayed out of the digs all day then sat on the deck until the heat was more bearable. I enjoyed my kayaking, the bed was comfortable and the appointments of the loft were on point.. Not worth more than my monthly mortgage for just 4 days. By the way, their a/c was running non-stop at their abode. Never again at that place.
We are sorry that our rental did not meet your expectations. It’s certainly never our intention to mislead potential guests. The property overview does not describe the rental as having waterfront access or having kayaks for guest use; we also don’t list AC under general amenities. We’ll review and update our description to ensure this is clear going forward. Given that we had a conversation about the kayaks in advance of your stay, it’s surprising to learn that this was still a problem. We always make it known to our guests that we are available by phone or text (or stopping by to speak in person) if any needs or issues come up. In the future we will be more explicit that that includes notifying us if the apartment temperature is too uncomfortable. We have a portable AC unit that we have used in the past when guests have communicated this. Thank you for your feedback. We continue to learn how to best accommodate guests.
A Gem in Adamsville
We had a wonderful stay at this lovely apartment, very tastefully decorated, in the most beautiful setting. After a difficult week for us we arrived and were treated to the most peaceful stay. The apartment is great - roomy enough for the two of us, with the sweetest little deck out back. We easily slid into the two Adirondack chairs and sat and read or gazed at the beautiful, expansive, private yard.
Paula and Val were terrific. They were there when we needed them but not at all intrusive. They were very kind and accommodating, helping us out with some special arrangements. By the way, if you are lucky you will get to meet Eddy and Winnie!
We loved walking for coffee and tea in the morning. The Daily Grind has great coffee (that's coming from a Starbucks snob) and it's about a two minute walk. Grab your morning bun and beverage and cross the road to sit on the chairs by the pond. What a way to start the day. You can also walk to The Barn restaurant for a great breakfast.
We explored the area a bit. Went to two different beaches and drove to Tiverton for lunch and ice cream. There are many nature walks close by and Paula and Val provide loads of info about local activities. It's a beautiful and historic area.
There are so many birds who came to visit. There are bird feeders all over the property and Val set up a Hummingbird feeder just for us next to our deck. It was delightful watching these little (but very fast) creatures.
All in all, it was a great stay - and just what the doctor ordered for us. We would return again to this little gem in Adamsville.
Most enjoyable stay at Val & Paula's in Westport, MA
Val and Paula are excellent hosts. The apartment is private, attractive and comfortable. The furnished deck was the place where we spent pleasurable mornings and evenings. We dined in most evenings and found the kitchen easy to use. The apartment location is convenient to many lovely places in the area. We enjoyed Westport Point, where a narrow street lined with old houses ends at the harbor and fishing docks. We walked Horseshoe Beach and Gooseberry Island. At Little Compton we saw the fabulous Sakonnet Garden open to public via the Garden Conservancy Open Days, and enjoyed the picturesque colonial town with commons decorated for Memorial Day weekend. Do not miss Gray's Farm ice cream in Tiverton Four Corners or Evelyn's on the water in Tiverton. There are super walks on conservation lands throughout the area.
Such a great stay. Paula (host) is so nice and very thoughtful. The location is perfect. Close to beaches, restaurants and wonderful towns in Rhode Island. The apartment was so comfortable with great space. Both the bathroom and loft bedroom area very spacious as well. Nice linens and towels. Even the pull out sofa was extremely comfortable. I loved the area, the proximity to Elephant Rocks beach and the beautiful outdoor deck/yard. I especially loved being able to grille and take an outdoor shower. I can't wait to stay in the Fall. Visiting the Milk and Honey cheese store is a must. Delicious selection of cheeses.
The apartment was very charming and inviting!
The place was very clean and well taken care of! Within walking distance of a cafe and restaurant, and the beaches were only a short drive away! The owners provided a list of things to do and see while in Westport, which was super helpful. The town was quaint and quiet which made for a very enjoyable stay!
Paula and Val's guest/attached apartment was ideal for my weekend get-away. The apartment is everything they say it is...only better. Well equiped kitchen, gas grill, outdoor shower, and private porch with a view of a beautifully landscaped lawn complete with standing bird houses (and binnoculars to watch those birds). And Eddy...the family's grayhound mix likes to come over for short visits...he's a sweet-heart. Westport is a lovely town bordering Little Compton, RI -- equally lovely. The Daily Grind (coffee house) and The Barn restaurant (the best poached eggs with bacon I've ever had hands down) are a just a walk arond the corner. The Back Eddy is a lively restaurant just a short drive down to the river leading out to Buzzards Bay. If you are a golfer, Newport National is a 20min drive to one of the best courses I've played -- pricey, but it warrants it. I hope to visit again, and when I do, I won't search VRBO, I'm going directly to Paula and Val!
