If you appreciate the extraordinary beauty of nature, seek the roar of the ocean rather than the roar of the crowd, enjoy fishing, boating and swinging on a hammock, then Dauphin Island is your piece of heaven. Imagine waking to the songs of morning doves, watching pelicans dive into the water for fish, dolphins following the picturesque fishing boats and egrets and herons at the water's edge patiently waiting for an unwary fish.

This five bedroom, three bath home is on a large sandy lot only 200 feet from the white sand beach of the Gulf of Mexico. The master suite has a king size bed and a huge bathroom with separate shower and tub for two. Three other bedrooms with queen or double bed are also on the main floor. A family or children's suite is on the second floor loft level with full bath, twin beds, bunk bed with twin on top a,d double bed on bottom, and TV. A catwalk from the loft spans the expanse of living area below. The kitchen is open to the living space and is fully equipped.

The house is on pilings and the enclosure below the house has toys and beach chairs. It is a fabulous house with a huge deck. After watching the vivid orange, pink, and blue sunset and counting the stars over Alabama, come inside to view a film or read a book from the extensive in-home library. Rather watch TV? There are 6 of them each with a VCR and/or DVD player.

Need more excitement? The casinos of Biloxi are only 75 minutes away and New Orleans is a 2.5 hour drive. The Civil War Fortress of Fort Gaines and an 18 hole golf course are on the island.

The description of the house is accurate. Everything we needed was there. The kitchen was well stocked. The master bathroom is amazing. The house is located a very short walk to the beach which we loved. We loved that the property was not on the water directly because the 7 kids could go outside and play and we did not have to worry about them one time. The area is quiet and very low key, we did not notice our neighbors once. The beach is nice with lots of shells and is private compared to the public beach. There were a few things that the home owner could improve or repair. The catwalk upstairs was not safe for the kids as at least 5 spindles were loose and pushed out. This was a real scare for the parents. The front and back deck need to be painted the children got slivers in their hands by just using the rail to walk down the steps. The slivers caused alot of tears and had to be dug out. The kids were then very hesitant to be on the deck. It would be nice if the hammock was on the back deck so it could be enjoyed vs on the bottom where there is only shade. Also there were dirty blankets in the master closet, I think the cleaning crew that is being paid needs to be monitored closer...this made me wonder if the bedding that was on the beds had been cleaned. Lastly the upstairs is very nice for kids minus the loose rails. We had 5 boys stay up there age 5-8 and all had plenty of room, except the pullout couch was very bad and needs to be replaced. The mattress is ripped and could not even be used as a bed as it is listed. The child slept on the couch and ended up with bug bites all over him after the first night. No one else used that couch bed or received bites. It was a relaxing stay and great island. Lighthouse Bakery was amazing. We ate at Felixs' and RR Seafood in Mobile both great. Pelican Reef was not as good and overpriced. We took the boat tour at the Marina and all had a blast. I would stay at the house again if the above items were repaired and the cleaning crew made sure the linens were clean.

Owner's Response: I will be forwarding your review to my realtor for action. I will say that the convertible sofa upstairs is not supposed to be used for a bed and was never listed as such. I wish you had made your complaints to my realtor so that they could be addressed immediately while you were still there. I have not only forwarded your review to my realtor for action but gone to the house myself. Your accusations are totally unfounded and I am very upset. I take pride, as does my realtor, in the amenities and maintenance of my home. In 6 yrs of renting yours is the only complaint and so devastating in its untruthful accusations. Follow-up by realtor: "All repairs were done, one spindle on the cat walk loose but has been re-secured. Sofa sleeper has been removed (not listed on our website as an option to sleep on). In regards to the dirty blanket, if the blanket was neatly folded in the closet the cleaning crew would not have pulled it down to look at it. As far as your deck is concerned I believe it is fine, and so are your hand rails." My note: If your son had bug bites they did not come from inside the house.

The home along with the view is wonderful. We were down for a family reunion and during this time we hosted a reunion dinner - plenty of space and charm. All of our guest loved the house. We will definitely be back!
