It’s a perfect and serene spot to watch the comings and goings of sea-life and wildlife, and the magical and hypnotic setting sun in Deep Bay.
The resident fish eagles, with their musical and mystical calling sit up in the giant Sitka spruce tree gracing our garden creating their melodies while watching out for their prey. Deep Bay is decorated by brightly colored rainbows & spectacular sunsets which can be enjoyed while relaxing and absorbing the comings and goings of Deep Bay Harbor.
This comfy cozy hideaway on Vancouver Island is about a 45-minute drive north from the Nanaimo ferry, and about 30 minutes south from Comox airport. Deep Bay is in an area known as Lighthouse Country which lies on central Vancouver Island. This allows you to enjoy many activities in and around the area, whether it is spring, summer, fall or winter.
There is easy access to launch your kayaks, row boats, canoes and/or paddle boards. Next door is a boat launch and a marina for any larger boats. Just across the bay is our sandy beach playground that triples in size depending on the tidal-moon cycle. There you can enjoy swimming, beach-combing, photography, painting, or just chilling with a good book. The area is famous for wild oysters and clams so don’t forget your fishing license so you can enjoy digging for your dinner. Close by and a pleasant walk leads to Vancouver Island University’s Deep Bay Marine Field Station where you can learn all about the local fish life and marvel at their Grey Whale exhibit. Fishing for salmon & cod is but a few steps away where, if you don’t have a boat there are charters to take you out. Lighthouse Country has magical and enchanting trails to discover. Fancy a-go at spelunking, then visit the famous Horne Lake Caves which is a half-hour drive inland. The Pacific Rain-forest Adventure Tours located in Parksville is a delightful way to learn and explore about this magical island. Numerous unique and artistic treasure stores a-wait your discovery in Bowser, Coombs, & Qualicum Beach. This area also has a variety of adventures to enjoy. Heading north and guarding over us all is majestic Mount Washington where hikers, bikers and photographers are free to wander her range when her snow cloak has melted; and in the winter months you have all the winter delights to enjoy.
At the end of the day, right next door is our local licensed restaurant/bar where you can enjoy a meal on their deck and watch the comings and goings in Deep Bay. Enjoy an early morning or evening stroll around our marina docks as fishermen & sailors alike busy themselves with their tasks. The ever hopeful seals and otters love hanging around in hopes of easy morsels.
As darkness descends, clear skies reveal the millions of twinkling and winking stars up in the heavens. As Deep Bay quietens, and depending on the fire hazard, an open pit fire can be enjoyed while listening to the sounds around you of wildlife calling, and the echo of conversations carried on the wind.
Just a little taste of what can be enjoyed while staying at Hummingbird Hideaway in Deep Bay.
