About Gudi Lauffenburger

After 20 years as a retailer, I am now ready to travel and indulge in my primary love of architecture, decorating and construction - to build my next house. Yeah, I am a big workout fan, and can recommend an excellent personal trainer while you are down here.

I follow the rule - cliche, but true - of living and let living. In that context I feel that: Quote: "LIFE IS NOT MEASURED BY THE NUMBER OF BREATHS WE TAKE, BUT BY THE NUMBER OF MOMENTS THAT TAKE OUR BREATH AWAY" Unquote.

We celebrated my daughter's birthday in this house. It was amazing. Cozy, comfortable, beautiful are the words that come to mind when describing this place.

Highly recommend it! Come back for sure.

This is a lovely rural area, small shops and oxo gas stations and several excellent restaurants are within 2 miles from Casa Amarillo - but there is more: After crossing the border, take the toll-road to Rosarito for about 14 miles until exit of Rosarito Sur. On your way to La Mision here you have the option of staying on the freeway or exiting onto the free road south and see the artist village of Popotla - great pottery, metal and woodwork and the lobster village of Puerto Nuevo. Just a mile south after your exit onto the free road, there is a great steak restaurant named "Tapanco" on your right (next to a monstrous white high-rise and an OXO store. If, however, you decide to stay on the freeway, the drive between the Rosarito Sur exit to the next tollbooth is 1.2 miles. Another $18.4 miles and you are set to exit at La Mision/La Fonda - Good restaurant and great band at Gary's La Fonda on Saturday nights; Dimitri's La Fonda has an outstanding Sunday brunch for roughly $13 - and yes, there are two La Fondas, so much for tidbits. The toll at both tollbooths fluctuates between $1.70-$1.90. It ordinarily takes less than an hour to get to La Mision from the border. THESE ARE OUR RECOMMENDED RESTAURANTS - VICINITY

Rosarito: (20 mins north) Rosarito Beach Hotel, La Estancia, Los Pelicanos, El Nido, Susannah’s, Chez Felipe, Tapanco (my personal favorite for nice ambiance and great steaks - as already mentioned above - just about a mile on the west side of the free road Rosarito - Ensenada after you exit the freeway at Rosarito Sur.)

Puerto Nuevo: unfortunately these days it’s more of a tourist-trap than anything else serving primarily Lobster and flea market merchandise (15mins north)

Ensenada:

Ensenada has slowly become a Foodie’s Lover destination – and rightfully so. Here are a number of great restaurants:

Sanos: great steakhouse; lovely ambience, indoor and outdoor dining, not cheap but food is ample – if price is an issue, you can split a meal.

Mex Hwy 101 Km 108,m 1.5 miles south of Hotel Coral ; 646-175-7073

Manzanilla: Bistro, Mexican style – superb food. Calle Teniente Azueta #139. www.manzanillo.com

646-175-7073

Ophelias: Ingredients are always fresh, with some oof the most exciting menus in town; Transpreninsular Tj-Ensenade, km 103, 646-175-8365

Muelle 3: great seafood at the harbor, 646-174-0318

da Toni: Great Italian Food, Avenida Riveroll 143, Zona Centro, 646-113-4338

and lastly, but not least La Guerrerense, not a restaurant but a Ceviche and Seafood stand. www.laguerrerense.com 12-6pm only, 646-119-4530
