You enter the cottage by way of a deck surrounded with Rugosa rose hedges. The charmingly furnished living room opens on to a private back deck with view of the harbor. The kitchen is well equipped for any one cooking endeavor or you may choose to take a five minute stroll to one of the tempting waterside restaurants. A fireplace for possible chilly evenings completes the picture at this idyllic Maine vacation spot. The attractions of Acadia are only a few minutes drive away. Or you can leave your car and take the free Explorer bus directly to Bar Harbor!

Nice, peaceful and quite place to stay
We stayed here on our honeymoon. They left a congratulations card on the table which was a sweet touch!
It is a lovely little cottage with just the right amount of typical Maine cottage gardens out front. The ferry is right behind it and there's a restaurant within walking distance (didn't realize we were that close to the ferry until the last few days).
A bit of a drive to Acadia but there are plenty of things to do near the cottage. We spent most days in Acadia and didn't mind the drive to much.
The kitchen is fairly well stocked, bathroom is nice but bring your own towels.
We would definitely stay again!
Thanks for your review! I'm glad it worked out so well for you. I appreciate your comments about the towels...I clearly need to take a critical look at them and see that they are replaced ASAP!
A great stay in the perfect cottage for our needs
We stayed in Eleanor & Sandy’s Roost apartment last year and had a lovely stay, so when we noticed that their Cottage was available we jumped on it. Like the Roost, it was well appointed and equipped with everything we needed. I didn’t realize this when I booked, but this property has two decks in addition to lawn space, which was perfect for a family with a toddler. The front deck is nice and sunny and looks out on a row of rugosa roses - a really nice spot for morning coffee and quiet conversation after our son went to bed. The back deck is more private and has a partial view of the harbor. On our last night we ordered a few lobsters from Thurstons (across the harbor) and enjoyed them on the back deck - highly recommend this! It was a perfect Maine send-off after a week full of activity. The living area is spacious and the kitchen had all we needed. Eleanor and Sandy were gracious and generous hosts - there was a torrential storm on one of our days there and it interefered with the WiFi. They went to great lengths to troubleshoot the issue, and we had no further problems the rest of the week. This was a lucky find and was exactly what we needed.
Thank you so much for your comments! It was a pleasure to have your family here and I'm glad that you enjoyed the Cottage so much. It's nice to have two decks because each offers a different view.
We loved staying at the cottage. It was perfect for our little family. We love being on “the quiet side” of the island. Eleanor and Sandy were great hosts - available if we needed them. Check in and out was simple. My daughter loved collecting the blackberries outside!
Thank you so much for your positive comments! It was a pleasure to have you here.
For the money there are much better options.
Owner is very easy to communicate with and she is very responsive. The place itself is in desperate need of a overhaul. It was extremely hot when were were there and there was no AC in the place. As a result with the local humidity everything is constantly damp in the cottage. There were no less than 50-75 flying bugs in the bathroom at all times, and the mosquitoes outside were terrible. The grounds of the property are horribly overgrown and if memory serves me correctly there was supposed to be a view of the bay. Maybe in the fall when there are no leaves on the trees, but in August there was no view to be had at all. We were also expected to strip beds, make sure all dishes were washed and put away, and we had to separate and haul our own trash to their garage for disposal. All of this could have and would have been overlooked had the place cost a reasonable amount, however for the hundreds of dollars a night plus extra fees for children and dog, I do expect allot more then what this place had to offer. I was also scolded about leaving my dog the couple times we could not bring him to places in Acadia. I left him outside, in the shade, with access to water and his crate (which he loves) and am sure spent his entire time in. I did this to make sure as little shedding fur as possible was left inside the cottage. But as the old saying goes, no good dead goes unpunished.
I had no intention of leaving any review, however this was the 4th reminder to do so, so here it is. Hope this review helps.
We are sorry that the Cottage did not live up to your expectations.
Quiet, peaceful, amazing air
Two things for my advice: need to replace toilet (has danger cracks) and electric range (oven doesn’t work)
Thank you, Eleana, for bringing these matters to our attention. I can assure you
that they will be taken care of. We enjoyed having you as guests!
The cottage was wonderful just what we were looking for, it’s quiet and peaceful. The cottage is very clean and well equipped. The roses around the cottage weren’t blooming yet, when they do it will be beautiful. Eleanor and Sandy for great people. We hIghly recommend renting this cottage. One note of caution the seafood restaurant close by is not that great.
