About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 3.5 Baths, (Sleeps 12-16)

Watching the sunset over the Pacific Ocean, marveling at the beauty and craftsmanship of this handsome home, the perfect proportions of the architecture, the superb choice of wood and appointments, the crafted and stylized door handles and yacht quality cabinetry brings a sense of joy, serenity and knowing that people who really care built this home.

Nestled between two canyons yet within walking distance of the historic Highlands Inn with its famous five star Edge Restaurant and renowned Point Lobos State Park, the Retreat is a perfect get-away retreat for reflection and remembering what matters in life; a great place for reunions, family gatherings, joyous reconnections; a serene place for relieving the stress of life through immersion in the wondrous presence of nature; a wonderful setting for small business conferences or group dialogue. Awake in the midst of a Monterey Pine Forest to birdsong and repose at night to the crashing sound of waves and the sea lions barking in the distance.

Enjoy a card game with friends by the fire or a glass of wine while admiring Bird Rock of Point Lobos State Park from the den. Indulge yourself in the relaxing warmth of the hot tub or renew your spirit in the upstairs sauna. Revel in the true pleasure of being alive and experiencing the love of God through his most beautiful creations.

This house was not just built, it was artfully molded throughout. The front door is an artistic master piece, a stunning large block of redwood with a door handle crafted into a beautiful curve much like a whale’s tale. The cabinetry is exquisite - made from exotic woods including mahogany, cherry, Alaskan cedar and Pacific Coast redwood. Each room is a unique statement of appreciation and gratitude for nature’s beauty - including fine artwork, hand painted sinks, hardwood floors, and hand crafted furniture.

The immense master suite has its own study/ exercise room where you can view the Pacific while cycling on the exercise bike or work on your laptop while enjoying the view of Point Lobos. Designed by respected local architect Peter Davis, it is an example of enduringly beautiful architectural style that knows no era.

Spacious and clean, this 4000 square ft. house provides plenty of quiet private space as well as grand joining spaces. It is large enough to find a quiet corner for reading or meditating and has ample together spaces for playing board games, chatting over the day's visit to local sites or relaxing in front of a movie.

The inviting kitchen with adjoining greenhouse breakfast nook is alive with morning sun and a fun space for group cooking and cheer. In the great room, the formal walnut hand crafted dining table can seat up to twelve for large dinner gatherings in the warmth of the fire place. The large windows throughout bring nature inside, with magnificent scenic views that create the feeling that nature outside and inside are integrated. Two decks provide sweeping ocean views while the third overlooks the large flagstone patio.

Pacific View Retreat sleeps twelve in three kings, two queens and two twin beds. Two sleeper sofas (one king and one queen) can accomodate another four guests.

Pacific View Retreat is ideal for reunions, special birthdays and anniversaries, wedding groups, and corporate retreats. Here are the comments from some recent guests:

'We came to celebrate a birthday and an engagement in this amazing house. The natural wood and decor give the house a warm and inviting feel Each room offers a unique gift for the mind and the soul. The artfully placed windows bring the outdoors to your fingertips. Each one has a breathtaking view of the bay, the canyon, or the enhanced natural landscaping surrounding the home. This was a great place for our family to celebrate.'

We just spent a week at Pacific View Retreat for a family reunion/retreat/celebration. It was just the perfect house for the eight of us, both the house itself and the location. It was overcast nearly all the time and we didn't even care. The house is very well appointed, beautifully designed, and offers enough space for solitude when wanted or room for eight to sit comfortably. It is an easy drive to many of the most beautiful spots in the area and there are easy and spectacular walks not more than two miles down the road.

A beautiful location and disappointed with the upkeep of the property

  • 3 of 5

This once beautiful home was quite dirty. There were many bugs in the kitchen and the towels were very worn. In addition, the plugs in the kitchen did not work.

Owner's Response: The home is still quite beautiful and I have addressed the cleanliness issue with the cleaning crew with special emphasis on ensuring the bugs problem is resolved and not using linens that should be replaced. The plugs in the kitchen were a simple matter of resetting the circuit. I hope any future guest will call with any issues like this so that I can address them immediately during your stay.

Beautiful Home, Terrific Host

  • 5 of 5

Our family rented this home for a wedding in Monterey. This home is so beautiful and the views from the picture windows of the coastline were gorgeous. There was plenty of room for us to spread out and the amenities (hot tub, game room, patio) were really appreciated by everyone. It is just a few minutes from Point Lobos state park, where several of our family enjoyed hikes every morning. Keith was a terrific host, taking care of a small issue and answering our questions. Several of the wedding guests who saw the house asked about how to rent...I suspect Keith will be hearing from them in the near future.

This house was amazing - gorgeous views and plenty of room

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't be happier with our choice to rent this house in Carmel. It was perfect for our large wedding party to unwind and enjoy the incredible views the house offers. There was more than enough room for all 12 of us to sleep comfortably - definitely could have fit more! Enjoyed the ping pong and hot tub especially. If we ever have an event in Carmel again, we will be renting this property.

Beautiful Retreat for Families

  • 5 of 5

We (four generations) spent a week at this beautiful retreat. The home was very large and comfortable with plenty of room for our group of 11 to relax, eat and have fun. We loved the top-floor master suite. It's HUGE with gorgeous views and a very comfy bed. The outdoor area is very nice with a grill and large table to eat, and the hot tub is a perfect spot to unwind. The location is ideal - very close to Point Lobos, and everything Carmel/Monterey has to offer. We would not hesitate to stay here again. Thanks!

Crazy Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

This house is amazing! It is not only beautiful, but it had everything we needed. There were 10 of us on our first trip to California. We had more than enough room to spread out and had tons of fun sitting in the hot tub, having ping pong tournaments, cooking family dinners and enjoying the view of the ocean. Point Lobos State Park is very near and we spent 2 separate days wandering through and investigating tide pools. I am so glad the house ended up exceeding our expectations, but one of the best things was Keith. A week before our arrival the Soberanes wild fire began very close to Carmel. Keith contacted me to let me know about it and told me where I could look to get more info on the fire. He answered all my questions, but did not try to convince me to stay or to cancel. Even though the house was not in direct danger, he said he would refund all of our money if we had any concerns about the air quality and did not want to stay there. In the end we decided to go and we are all very glad we did. We hope our travels bring us back this way some day and we would absolutely stay in this house again. Thank you to Keith and his family for sharing it!
