About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Feel like you are on top of the world with an amazing 180 degree coastline sunset view. Located on a 250 foot bluff overlooking Kaohe bay this home has unobstructed coastline views. It is a very private home on an over sized lot which borders thousands of acres of rugged coastline. Listen to the whales sleep at night with the gentle waves. Watch the Whales in the bay below from December until April. Just a couple hundred yards away is your own private pebble beach which on a busy day you might see 7 or 8 other people. Most days you have the beach to yourself. Most days even in the winter months, are calm enough to kayak, snorkel, swim and scuba dive. The water visibility is more that 100 feet and rarely is less than 75 feet. There are coral reefs within 75 feet of the shore and the area is known for some of the best diving on all of the Hawaii Islands.

A great place to hang out is the lanai which has a stainless steel barbecue, bar area for your tropical drinks and a nice lanai dining area. Sip your coffee or coctail and enjoy th view. There is also a dining room table outside to go with the bar viewing area. The entire house is furnished tropical style and the landscaping is very tropical with dozens of different varieties of Palms, Bromiliads, Bouganvillas, Mango, Plumeria and much more. The house is on a bluff, so not only do you get an awesome view but you also get a perfect ocean breeze during the day and a delightful Mauna Loa breeze at night. It is a very quite and peaceful setting with an awesome view. A great place to relax. This property is registered with the State of Hawaii as Transient Accommodations under GE tax number-W30281808-01

Wonderful stay on Japonica Lane

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing one week stay in this home. The house was clean and comfortable and nicely located close to Captain Cook to the north and not far from the Green Sand Beach to the south. The beach at the bottom of the hill is great for lounging, snorkeling or cooling off and the coastline is perfect for long walks.

Every evening we watched the sunset from the beautiful lanai and ate dinner under the stars, and we were lucky enough to see humpback whales and spinner dolphins go by.

It was a magical vacation and Steve was the perfect host!

Hawaiian Paradise

  • 5 of 5

We chose this house based on its location and amazing views and were not disappointed. It is a wonderful choice for anyone who is looking to experience Hawaii away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist area. The views from the lanai are incredible!

We spent 90% of the time we were at the house out on the lanai and enjoyed every meal outside. In the evening we enjoyed drinks and gorgeous sunsets. We just missed the whale season, but were able to view many dolphins, manta ray and sea turtles. (We brought a travel set of binoculars with us and were very glad we did.) There are also many wild goats and poultry roaming the area. There is a local fisherman in the area who goes out every morning and returns with his catch later in the day. If you are lucky, he puts a sign up out on the street and you can buy fresh Ono or Ahi to grill on the lanai. There are also several fresh fruit markets located nearby that you can drive by and get locally grown fruits and vegetables. We enjoyed several great meals at the small local restaurants like Big Jake’s Island BBQ and Keoki’s Roadside Café.

The pebble beach located by the house was fairly quiet and we had it mostly to ourselves. Water shoes that are enclosed and have a good sole are recommended, as the lava stone pebbles can be difficult to walk on. There is also an interesting hiking trail located along the beach line. It is a historic trail that the locals help maintain and has many interesting points to view (take along some water). We appreciated making use of the coolers that the owner provided, as we were able to take along food and cold beverages wherever we went on our day-trips. The kitchen was fairly well appointed and had most of the items we needed. There are a few stores in the area (Steve, the owner, provided a list and we also discovered other small local places) to pick up extra things we needed. There is a great Costco in Kona.

The house is about a 30 minute drive from Kona, but we found it worth the few extra miles of travel to escape the tourist crowds and it was central to most of the activities we wanted to participate in. We day-tripped out to Volcano National Park, Akaka Falls State Park and many other great areas on the island. The house is attractive and functional and there is a spectacular view of the ocean and coastline from the second queen bedroom. Steve is responsive and professional to deal with. We would definitely stay here again.

Great View, Very Comfortable

  • 5 of 5

This was a really great house for to stay at with both my mom and my kids. The house had a fantastic 180 degree view of the coastline and we saw many whales during our stay (thanks for providing the binoculars). The kids also enjoyed seeing the goat families that grazed near the property. I liked the fact that the house was at the end of an already quiet street as you really feel like you are getting away from it all. The kids enjoyed walking down to the beach and collected lots of shells and swam. The one downside was my mom couldn't walk to the beach as it is a very steep hill to get there. Also the beach is very pebbly so I recommend good water shoes. I highly recommend driving to Two Step in the morning (about a 25 minute drive) as we got to swim with dolphins in the bay. It was the highlight of the trip. We paid the $5 to park at Pu`uhonua O Hōnaunau Historic Park and then came back 3 times (the parking is good for a week). We stayed her for half the trip and then up north near Hawi for the second half which worked well for us in terms of diversity.

Paradise With A View

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I went to Kona and selected this property for our stay. Before we arrived Steve (the owner) gave us a lot of helpful tips regarding places to shop for groceries and to visit. He was extremely helpful and responded to all our questions swiftly. We arrived on January 26 and stayed for approximately 7 days during which time we stayed fairly close to the property since there was so much to do around the area when it came to snorkeling and swimming. Our stay was extremely relaxing given the AMAZING view from the house. I can say without a doubt that the view is to die for. From the front porch there is an AMAZING 180 degree panoramic view of the ocean and each day we were treated to sightings of whales from the front porch. The house is a well designed large beach house with 3 comfortable rooms; great living room; wonderful kitchen; and relaxing living room. There are views of the ocean from almost every room in the house, but the large front porch with its expansive and breathtaking views makes this place the perfect rental for our stay in Kona. We loved sitting on the front porch early in the morning for breakfast looking at whales; and in the evening looking at the sunset.. with whales swimming by :) It was a real treat. We highly recommend this place for its amazing location, and Steve the owner for his friendly and helpful tips. We will definitely revisit on our next Kona trip!

Awesome Panoramic Coastline Views (and more)

  • 5 of 5

This property offers a great view of the west coast and beautiful sunsets each day. The location is a good place for those who want to explore the island, day trips to and from this home base are very reasonable. You might be intimidated by the steep road to the house from the highway, but you will get use to it. Take your time driving in Hawaii – no one should be in hurray. This house has all the amenities a home can offer with functional bathrooms, comfortable bedrooms, a nice kitchen with dining and TV room. Of course you’ll find yourself having breakfast on the porch looking for whales and dinner on the porch watching the sunset. The beach the house looks over also is a great place to relax with trails along the coast to explore. Looking south from the house is uninterrupted Kona Coast line which adds to the privacy and experience of this location (you’ll see and hear goats that roam the area too). At night the star gazing is great, the steady sounds of the surf and waves hitting the beach is very soothing. Overall it’s a great location to experience the Big Island of Hawaii.
