Ocean Bay Cottage 1 is perfectly situated to provide you with the best of the Mission Beach lifestyle!
Watch the sunrise with a cup of coffee on your exclusive use front porch. Pop over to the Bay, just two houses away, for a quick morning jog or a dip in the water, then head inside to enjoy a family breakfast at your own pace in the fully equipped kitchen, or walk to one of the local restaurants featuring dishes like lemon french toast and pulled pork 'n eggs. Your dining table seats up to eight guests, and there is also an eat-in table in the kitchen for smaller meals.
After breakfast, its time to figure out how to spend your day. The hallway closets and walk-in outside storage room hold everything you need to enjoy a day at one of the two beaches within walking distance – towels, chairs, umbrellas, coolers, beach toys, and even body boards (enough beach supplies for up to 6 guests.) Or maybe today is a day to get out and explore San Diego – your beach house is just a 10-15 minute drive from most major attractions in San Diego, and a 5 minute drive from Sea World.
In the afternoon, after the day’s adventures, it’s a good time to relax on the large sectional on your exclusive use outdoor patio and make dinner plans. Walk to one of the several delicious restaurants & pubs in the area (offering everything from sushi to gastro-pub fare), or pick up supplies at the local grocery store to cook a feast in your kitchen or outdoor patio grilling & dining area.
An evening trip to Belmont Amusement Park, just a few blocks away, is a great way to top off the evening – ride the historic Giant Dipper wooden roller coaster, try your luck at the boardwalk games, or just stroll around and treat yourself to some cotton candy or ice cream. A walk along the beach or bay at night is also always relaxing.
The patio sectional is a favorite spot for late-evening relaxation. Share a bottle of wine, whip up a pitcher of sangria, or open a few beers and just relax listening to the sound of the waves and the peace and quiet of this unusually residential and non-partying pedestrian court. Just be sure to pop over to the Bay for an unobstructed view of the Sea World Fireworks around 8:50 PM each night (weekends only during the off season.)
In the unlikely case of rain, there is of course a comfy indoor living room with a Smart TV to play your Netflix, Hula with basic channels as well as an array of board games for family fun. And when you fall asleep at night there are ceiling fans to keep you cool and the sound of the waves to lull you to sleep.
HOW VACATION RENTALS WORK:
(for guests new to renting a private vacation home)
This is our own lovingly maintained beach house that we open up to others when our family is not using it. The property will be on lockbox for you. The property is cleaned thoroughly by a professional housekeeping service in between guests, but there is no daily housekeeping service. While we are very happy to assist you in your stay and in making sure you have what you need, please understand that this is not a hotel and there is not a 24-hour concierge available to deliver toothpaste at 3 AM. However, everything you need to enjoy a turnkey experience (as if this were your own 2nd home) will be in the rental - including freshly laundered linens, towels, toilet paper, etc. Please treat our home with respect & kindness.
ABOUT THE AREA
Mission Beach is San Diego’s premier vacation spot and a must-see for visitors to our sunny city! Nestled on a narrow strip between the bay and the ocean, you’re never more than a few blocks from the water and only a few minutes driving distance from the city. Visitors love the long walkways along the beach and bay, the relaxed beach atmosphere and lifestyle, and the festivity of Belmont Park and the surrounding recreational areas. Bay Haven Cottage is located in the heart of all that Mission Beach has to offer, yet is on a calm residential court (pedestrian walkway) away from the bustle of tourists and distant from the 'frat party' atmosphere of some blocks in the area.
DETAILS ON THE COTTAGE:
Granite countertops, subway tile backsplash, stainless appliances (microwave, stove, dishwasher & refrigerator). Equipment includes cooking utensils, pots, dishes & glasses & silverware, serving dishes, mixing bowls, assorted pans & cookie sheets for the oven, knives, cutting boards, small appliances (mixer, toaster, coffeemaker, food processor, blender), and spices. This house is used by family when not rented out and the kitchen is equipped to make large and complicated family meals. Includes a 42” eat-in table with four chairs.
Round pedestal table is set up for 4 guests but can accommodate up to 6 (take chairs from kitchen table.) and the window seat is a favorite hideaway for many of the children who stay here.
Features a queen sleeper sofa and two armchairs, plus a large coffee table and two end tables. A ceiling fan provides comforting breezes on hot days. A whole-house furnace provides heat on the chilliest days of the year (of which there are very few!)
Has a queen bed and an electric fireplace for chilly nights. There is a closet and a small dresser unit inside the closet. Luggage may be stored under the bed or in the armoire in the hallway. The mattress is a good quality and on the firm side to accommodate guests with back problems.
Features a full size bed. There is a large closet that includes a small dresser unit.
Slate floor, tiled tub/shower combo, spacious. There are caddies under the sink for storing makeup and toiletries. Counter space is at a premium in the bathroom when there are multiple guests, so we suggest storing toiletries in the caddies to make extra space! The shower also has a toiletries caddy.
There is an exclusive use front porch with two Adirondack chairs, a bench, and a side table. There is also an exclusive use patio running the entire width of the property, it includes a large lounging sectional, dining table, and built in grill. This area is not private, however – it is separated from the residential court by a low wall, so folks passing by may engage you in conversation.
There is also a pack n’ play for younger guests, extra pillows & blankets are located in the closets in the cottage.
There is one off-street garage parking space for this cottage. It fits everything up to a pickup truck or mid-sized SUV, although the larger the car is the more difficult/annoying it is to park in the spot. However, we have parked our Honda Pilot in the spot many times and backing in is by far the easiest way to park in the garage due to the small turning radius of the alley that the garage is located on.
There is a washer-dryer on the property. It is shared with two other vacation rental units as well as housekeeping but there have not been any issues with clothes disappearing or the machines not being available when guests need them. At worst guests have just needed to move someone’s wash to the dryer in order to start their first load. Guest laundry hours are between 5:00pm to 9:00pm to accommodate housekeeping.
