About Megan Gatewood

Colin and Megan live in Grant Park, a neightborhood in downtown Atlanta. They have three boys and spend as much time as possible outside exploring.

Megan Gatewood purchased this house in 2017

Why Megan Gatewood chose Blue Ridge

We have spent a lot of time camping, hiking and exploring in Blue Ridge. When we began to look for a lake house we knew we wanted to be in this area. Colin is from the beach in Florida and Megan is from Lake Tahoe, so a house on the lake was a must.

What makes this house unique

This property provides the best of everything in the Aska Wilderness. The view from the screened in back porch is breath taking. One of our favorite things is to sit on the back porch with a good book and listen to the rain on the lake. Swim in the quiet cove or take the canoe to explore, there are are plenty of relaxing activities. The fishing from the dock is great or you can take the canoe out to try other areas. Make sure to check out the rope swing across the cove!

Perfect lake getaway

  • 5 of 5

I'll start with the view and the two expansive porches to enjoy it from. If I wasn't traveling with kids, it would be bliss to lounge there all weekend with a book and a glass of wine, never even stepping foot in the lake. But....since I was traveling with three 8-year-old boys, we took full advantage of the canoe and kayaks on offer - my little guy even learned to kayak by himself! The house is on a secluded, quiet cove of the lake, and not so crowded w/ jet skis and motorboats that you fear for your kids' safety. The house is well-stocked with everything and more you would need for a weekend getaway - besides the aformentioned watercraft, plenty of lake floats, life jackets, DVDs(for kids and adults), and board games. I especially appreciated that the kitchen was stocked w/ an extensive supply of spices and condiments - MUCH more so than your typical rental. There is, however, a rather long & steep staircase leading down from the house to the lake, and you have to transport most of your lake supplies (paddles, floats, life jackets, fishing poles) down there and then back up again at the end of the day, so I would not recommend this place for anyone that is elderly or infirm. Otherwise, though, this lake house is ideal!

Quiet area, beautiful view, very clean cabin

  • 4 of 5

Our family of 4 plus our dog stayed July 8-14th. We absolutely loved the area, the view, and the cleanliness of the cabin. The only downfall and things we didn’t like was the parking and there is NO A/C other than a wall mount unit in the upstairs dining area. This is a 2 story house and it can get quite toasty downstairs (where the bedrooms and laundry room are) when the heat of the day sets in. We did sleep with the screen door open and fan on so it wasn’t terrible but we are from the Deep South (Mobile AL) and it gets super humid and hot there. The parking is only big enough for 2 cars. We have a huge diesel truck and luckily we can fold in our side mirrors or the neighbors would be trying to squeeze through. Other than that it was in a great location, super clean, the view is phenomenal and we had all our needs there in the cabin. Enough room for all of us. We ate breakfast and dinner everyday/ night on the screened in back porch and we used the canoe and dock everyday from morning until night. We had such a great relaxing vacation. Thank you Gatewoods and we hope whoever rents next has a wonderful experience like we did.

Thank you!

Beautiful lakefront cabin needing some work

  • 3 of 5

Blue Ridge Lake is a beautiful, pristine green water lake mostly bordered by National Forest. This cabin has a floating dock on a bend on the Toccoa River that is less busy than the wider portion of the lake. Kids kayaks, a canoe, and noodles are provided for water sports; the float gets afternoon sun and includes deck recliners. There is a long steep stairway down to the lake; not handicap accessible.

The cabin is spacious with a large screened porch that overlooks the lake. It comfortably sleeps 8 (one bedroom has 2 bunk beds.) Parking is limited as there are 2 other homes on this narrow cul-de-sac; there is room for only 3 cars at most. There is a washer and dryer in good working order. A monitor and DVD player and extensive DVD collection are provided but no cable.

The cabin is in a beautiful setting but it does need some repairs (holes in sliding door screen; noisy ceiling fans) and renovations (soiled, shabby area rugs, stained carpeting.) With a little tender loving care this could be a five-star vacation venue.

Great getaway for the family to unplug from our busy lifestyle.

  • 4 of 5

This cabin had all the essentials to just sit back and relax. If your looking for a nice place to just relax look no further. We tried fishing but nothing was biting but it was nice to be with my family trying to catch my son’s first fish. You’re not to far from Historic Blue and we enjoyed walking the strip window shopping and grabbing a bite to eat. The best part of the trip for me was taking my son canoeing. Thank you Colin and Megan.
