Charming mid century cabin on gorgeous lakefront lot is the perfect location to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city yet is still close enough to take in all the action of St Louis. Located about 30 mins from Saint Louis, 10 minutes from Six Flags and 20 mins from Purina Farms; this is the perfect place for your family to relax and reconnect.
Lake Haven was built by the developers of Lake Tekakwitha back in the late 1940s and had been in the same family until the currently owners purchased and lovingly restored it from top to bottom in 2017. Although Paul and Darcie have updated electrical, HVAC, new windows, flooring, bathrooms, etc., they have made sure to retain all of the vintage charm.
What used to be a two-bedroom / one bath cabin became a three bed/ 2 bath cabin after converting the attached garage into a stunning master bedroom suite with a sleeping loft. The master bedroom features soaring vaulted ceiling clad in warm pine, large windows overlooking peaceful Lake Tekakwitha, shiplap walls and beautiful laminate floors. A comfy queen size bed is dressed with soft vintage linens and fluffy pillows. Climb the ladder to the cozy little sleeping loft where you'll find two twin beds and enough room for a sleeping bag or two! The master bathroom features a large combination soaker tub and shower and a vanity with lots of storage.
Between the master suite and the main living area of the original cabin, is a fabulous Great Room with original knotty pine walls, vaulted cedar ceiling and massive cedar log beams. Belly up to the original bar or just relax in the incredibly comfy furniture while taking in the expansive views of the lake. Large new windows were recently installed to maximize the view. This room also features a darling mid century formica and chrome dining table and chairs--providing a great place to dine or for a game of cards.
The main part of the house is quaint and cozy with it's original knotty pine walls and ceiling. Curl up with a good book by the large stone fireplace in the living room or just admire the view of the lake through the new windows and glass door. You'll find a selection of games and books in the bookcase and there is a tv that can be used to stream movies on the Roku player.
The eat-in kitchen is full of vintage touches--another great 1950's table and chairs and original electric stove; but also has modern conveniences that will make meal prep easy--a full size refrigerator, microwave, pots & pans, etc. We'll provide the dish gloves, Palmolive (you're soaking in it) and embroidered dish towels... you wash and dry the dishes the old fashioned way!
Each of the two bedrooms in the main part of the cabin are decked out in sweet, comfy linens. The first bedroom has beautiful, oversized twin beds that came from Germany. The second bedroom overlooks the lake and has a full sized bed. The original bathroom features a tub/shower combination and has been updated but still retains it's mid century charm. We couldn't stand to part with the original pink sink and bathtub! Darcie scoured thrift stores for the vintage robin's egg blue tile and Paul cleaned it! It was truly a labor of love!
The outdoor spaces at Lake Haven are just as great as the inside. You can access the huge 60 x 10 foot deck from the living room, Great Room or Master bedroom. It runs almost the entire length of the house and offers unobstructed views of the quiet 20 acre lake. There is comfortable outdoor furniture for relaxing and a 6 person table and chairs for dining al fresco. The original stone fire pit is about 30 feet from the lakeshore and is perfect for long talks around the fire at night or for making s'mores! You will also have access to the gas bbq grill that is located on the lawn near the deck.
On the front of the house there is a large covered porch that is accessible from the kitchen and the Great Room. It features ceiling fans and a wood paneled ceiling. This is a great place to enjoy a morning cup of coffee.
Lake Haven is a terrific location! A short drive from Interstate 44 (formerly Route 66) near the towns of Pacific (4 miles away) and Eureka (8 miles away). There are cute shops and restaurants in both of these little towns. About 20 minutes to Purina Farms in Gray Summit, only 10 minutes to Six Flags. You can find great hiking spots in nearby conservation areas (Young; Glassberg) , do some skeet shooting at St Louis Skeet and Trap Club (Pacific), canoe or float on the Meremac River or just fish out your back door in Lake Tekakwitha. There are lots of caves to explore in Missouri and you can go spelunking about 40 mins away at Meremac Caverns. And of course, there is so much to do in Saint Louis which is only about 30-40 mins away depending on traffic and how far into town you plan to go. Cardinals Baseball at Busch Stadium is a favorite destination. Located in beautiful Forest Park, the St Louis Zoo is world class! There is lots to see and do in Forest Park and much of it, including the Zoo, is FREE. Check out the art and history museums, tour the lakes by paddle boat, have dinner at the boat house, or take in a musical at The Muny. Saint Louis Botanical Garden is another favorite. Saint Louis is an amazing place to visit, especially if you have children. The City Museum should not be missed. The Magic House in Kirkwood is one of the top children's museums in the US. And of course, a trip to the top of the Arch never disappoints!
Lake Haven is a unique and beautiful place to unwind and connect with family. But if you have to connect with the outside world, we do offer complimentary WiFi.
We look forward to having you as our guests and providing you with a comfortable, relaxing and memorable experience.
