About the property

Playa Grande Casitas

OVERVIEW: Playa Grande Casitas is a very tranquil property that offers a more affordable and spacious alternative to local hotels. We are located in the exclusive Palm Beach Estates section of Playa Grande, and are within a 5 minute stroll to everything Playa Grande has to offer, including restaurants, a grocery and of course the beach.

GROUNDS: Playa Grande Casitas is a beautiful property under the canopy of an old growth grove of giant Guanacaste trees that provide dappled shade for a comfortable poolside escape after a long day in the sun. The sparkling blue tiled pool is one of the nicest in Playa Grande, with an oversized natural flagstone patio, plenty of teak poolside furniture and a couple of hammocks perfect for a quiet read. Our grounds are immaculate with white stone ground cover and flagstone walking paths with accent lighting.

OUR STUDIO: Our Studio are basic yet simply adorable and comfortable. We offer a queen sized bed as well as a day bed that doubles as a couch. The open beam teak wood ceilings add a sense of warmth, and a wall of built-in teak shelving, drawers and hanging closet provide ample storage space. The bathrooms have large walk in showers (yes... hot water!), and of course we provide an oversized safe box to hold all your electronics.

OPEN AIR KITCHENETTE: The Studio has an open air kitchenette on the veranda, complete with everything you need, including a cooktop, sink, refrigerator, toaster, coffee maker and blender. And of course dishes, utensils and cookware for 4 persons.

SECURITY: We have a state-of-the-art security system and over-sized lock boxes which can hold all your electronics. Our security system not only alarms, but also calls our Property Manager's cell phone, who just a stones through down the road and is able to respond within minutes. And all the locals know it, so we don't have any worries about petty theft or otherwise at Playa Grande Casitas.

BEST VALUE IN GRANDE: You can probably find a place for a bit less in Playa Grande, but you won't find a better value. You will be comfortable and have peace of mind staying at Playa Grande Casitas.

A perfect family gathering spot

  • 5 of 5

We had a great Christmas vacation with our kids and grandkids. The apartments were well appointed for cooking meals and enjoying meals together. The casitas allowed each family to have their own space. The pool was clean and a good size. It was shady and lovely to spend time after the beach. The beach, though a five minute walk, was perfect for little kids and surfers alike. Howler monkeys in the beautiful big trees surrounding the property and lots of birds.

Splendida proprietà

  • 5 of 5

Amazing accommodations and location

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I booked into this lovely little cluster of cabinas super last minute. The price was great and we would have been happy with much less. We were shocked when we arrived. The pictures don't do the place justice. We were in a top level studio suite with lovely views of the surrounding jungle. There was a little outdoor kitchen with everything we needed to make amazing meals. There is a little groceries store a few minutes walk. The pool was beautiful and the caretaker was super friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this place, it is one of my favorites that I have stayed at in Costa Rica. We will definitely return.

Jungle camping

  • 5 of 5

I really can't say enough good about this option. Wanting to book the apartment, Roger, informed us it was unavailable, but we could book a studio for part of our stay and move to an apartment afterwards. This suited us just fine. The studios have an outdoor kitchen, and a one-room living space. My friend and I shared the bed, although a day bed was also available. It is plenty big enough for 2 people and could do 3 or 4, depending. We had only one incident and that was with a faulty shower head - Manfred, the property manager completely replaced it immediately!!! He also bakes wonderful baked goods that you can pre order and I recommend!!

When we moved to the lower apartment, we were shocked at the difference! Full indoor kitchen, large bathroom, large bedroom and separate living space!less like camping!! Both were beautiful and offered unique experiences! Far from all-inclusive, the Wil*mart is just up the road, and be sure to say hi to Wilbur who runs it. Palm Beach is a gated and private beach, and it's not too far from Tamarindo if you feel the need for a party time. Bula Bula was also one of our favourite places to go, and full of wonderful people! Never felt unsafe or unwelcome.

Renting a car would be recommended if you want to leave the compound and do some sightseeing of Costa Rica, but you'd be set with all amenities within the palm Beach Tamarindo Playa grande section. The surf shop offers great rates and excellent instruction !

Oh,and yes, there are ants, but it is the jungle! Don't hesitate to inform Manfred of any issues you might have!

perfect, peaceful location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the upper apartment for 9 nights with our two boys. The location was perfect for us. The full kitchen allowed us to have some meals in while relaxing on the patio right outside our door. The boys spent hours in the pool and enjoyed the hammocks. It's the prefect base for enjoying Costa Rican relaxation. We had a rental car but you could just as easily stay here without a vehicle as well.

Manfred, the caretaker, was very helpful and friendly. We especially enjoyed his fresh-baked goodies.

There are several great restaurants within walking distance and the beach is just a short walk away. On the walk to the beach you might even see monkeys and iguanas! The beach is perfect for swimming, surfing and incredible sunsets.

I would certainly recommend this peaceful location for anyone wanting to experience Costa Rica. Playa Grande is very safe and quiet, and is just a short water taxi ride to the very touristy Tamarindo. We would definitely stay here again!

Roger, the owner was great to deal with. He accidentally quoted us a price that was lower than it should have been for Easter week but still honored his quote. Very god customer service indeed!

Great location but property is in need of updates

  • 3 of 5

My husband and I stayed at Playa Grande Casitas for 1 week. We rented the lower apartment. I feel conflicted in writing this review, while we really enjoyed our stay in this area I think it is important to let others know what to expect in this location. We use the vrbo reviews as reliable sources of information when we book our trips so I think it is important to give details that potential renters might be looking for.

While the location of the casitas is exactly what we were looking for the property is in need of a good deep cleaning and some repairs. The pictures presented here are not adequate for the condition of the rental at this time. Specifically dirty stained curtains need to be replaced, painting needs to be done and the kitchen was lacking in basics. The frying pans were unusable. Pool chairs need to be replaced. Slow shower drains and an ant nest that would come out of the taps in the shower when you turned it on were some of the issues we encountered.

The cleaning staff and Manfred the caretaker were very good, they did what they could and were always attentive. Definitely get the bread and treats from Manfred as other reviewers have mentioned. Just excellent! The pool was excellent even though it needed constant cleaning by the tenants due to the dry weather conditions and the plantings around the pool loosing their leaves. We were fine with this as it could not be helped with a daily temperature of 36C and conservation of water for plantings around the pool. We enjoyed the pool everyday but as I said there needs to be some new pool chairs added, there were only 4 good chairs to sit on at the pool.

We would love to stay here again if some updates and cleaning are made.

Owner's Response: Hi Cheryl, Thank you for taking the time to post a review. As an absentee owner, I rely on candid feedback from guests to know when there are issues. I am sorry that you experienced water-stained and dirty curtains. I was not aware of this issue until I read your review and discussed with Manfred. The Apartment was flooded the week before your arrival. The shower drain became clogged and the guests left the shower run and flood the entire apartment before they called Manfred to fix the problem. For some reason the cleaning staff waited over a week to take down and wash the curtains. This was definitely a miss on our part. I also received a couple of comments regarding the pots and pans, and had Manfred replace all of them on the property as well as replace all the cooktops in the Studios. We are also planning to upgrade the Studios during the low season as well, including repainting, redecorating, new curtains and new kitchenette cabinets and granite countertops. We haven’t thought about adding more of the aluminum lounge chairs around the pool (I personally like the teak chairs), but will put that on the list as well. As far as the ants go… well they come and go in the jungle. Manfred just needs to know about it so he can take care of them. I can definitely appreciate that you were conflicted in writing this review, but am glad you did. I hope you give us another try next year and let us make it up to you. Kind Regards, Roger Bartakovits
