Welcome to Heron's Rest! Architect Designed Home with a Coastal Living Style! We hope you enjoy our home as much as we do! We are the same home that's been renting for years, but just a different management company. We love our return renters and I look forward to meeting you all!
Private beach access, magazine-worthy design – and a lot more – are yours at this architect-designed, Colonial Reproduction home at the Village of Tannin in Orange Beach.
Or try the exclusive Olympic-size swimming pool and cabana at the Village of Tannin. This family-friendly community also boasts serene brick streets and easy access to trails for walking and biking.
INSIDE THE HOUSE
Heron's Rest is not your typical beach rental! This home is the work of an award-winning architect, who took inspiration from the Colonial homes of Charleston. The current owners then added a professional decorator’s touch, with exquisite furnishings that would be at home in Coastal Living Magazine.
Our 2,200 sq. ft. of distinctive architectural features include a Captain's Watch – an adventure for the young and the young at heart – a Widows’ Watch, wraparound balconies (with access from each bedroom), verandas with fans, breathtaking views and more. Arbors lead into a garden with walkways and birdbaths, and there’s a back porch with a gas grill and Adirondack chairs for evening BBQs.
Our home sleeps 10 in 5 bedrooms, all with balconies. The bedrooms include 4 queen beds, and 1 twin with trundle. We even have a crib for the littlest guests! There are 3 1/2 baths and an outdoor shower for when you get home from the beach.
In the main living area, French doors open to the covered front porch. Here you’ll find designer furniture and a large flat panel LCD TV with basic cable and DVD player. The dining area will seat 8-10 to a vacation feast. We even have a portable highchair that attaches to one of the dining chairs.
The gourmet chef’s kitchen stuns with glass cathedral ceilings with shutters, beautiful quartz countertops, microwave/convection oven, coffee/espresso machine, cookware, and an electric cooktop with grill. No standard oven.
There are full laundry facilities, including an iron and board. For your little ones, there is an adorable playroom with toys, a toddler bed and a TV with Netflix. Wifi is available, too.
The staircase off the main living leads to the first part of the 2nd floor, which includes 2 queen-size master bedrooms that share a bath with a spa tub/shower attachment. In the first master, enjoy a flat-screen TV and Netflix plus a wraparound balcony that overlooks Tannin’s Olympic size pool. The second master bedroom sits at the front of the house and also has its own balcony space.
THE BUTLER’S QUARTERS
An additional space, dubbed "The Butler’s Quarters," includes a children’s playroom, a second casual living area (with a Netflix-ready flat-screen) a kitchenette, and a 3rd bedroom with a queen bed. Take a set of ship steps to the Captain’s Watch – an instant favorite. This loft-style room has a twin trundle bed and Captain’s Window with end-to-end views.
The Village of Tannin backs up to the 6,000-acre Gulf State Park, which means you can easily hit the new, paved bike trails that wind through the Park.
Or soar on a zip line, head to Lake Shelby for swimming and kayaking, traverse the longest fishing pier on the Gulf, bring your clubs to elite golf courses, or surround yourself in nature with several well stocked lakes in The Village of Tannin.
Your entire group will find something to love here in Orange Beach!

Sweet little house
The unique architecture of the house is very fun, especially for the kids! The fact that the back of the house is essentially its own full quarters allowed four 16 year old girls to claim their own space. I personally spent many peaceful moments reading on the front porch swing or on the wrap around balcony you can see in the picture - it's a little slice of heaven.
Walking distance to the beach is fine, but be aware you must cross a VERY busy highway - younger children would need supervision. Once you get to the beach, it's gorgeous. I did not expect the soft white sand. Beach chair and umbrella rental service is available - bring your own beach towels!
The blossoming small neighborhood is darling but still mostly houses and empty lots. There is one lovely interior decor/design store in the neighborhood. An ice cream shop would make a wonderful addition! There really are no walkable restaurants/hang outs/snack shops within distance, a minor disappointment for the kids. They did love the pool, right across from the house. It provided a warm sunny change of pace and escape from the cooler winds.
The house has a few cons. It's decorated nicely, but has seen a lot of wear (need new couch pillows stat - yuck). You can see general wear all around the house that needs attention - blinds that are ratty, water damage in some rooms, bathroom fixtures that need a bit of TLC. Since we like to cook and were planning on it to offset the cost of dining out, we were very surprised to find the kitchen HAS NO OVEN despite many pots and pans to use in an oven. The microwave serves as a convection oven, but it takes about 4 - 5 times longer to cook anything. There is a grill, but it is very small. We gave up the idea of cooking by the end of Day 2. I understand the owner is considering a remodel in the fall. The house was clean, but we also had an issue with roaches which I understand are common in the area. I inquired to the property manager and pest control was out the next day (apparently they had sprayed before we arrived too which may have sent the critters running - but they were big and we sent 8 to their demise).
Caroline the property manager is lovely! We did not meet her but interfaced via email multiple times. She is always pleasant and responsive - just what you want in a property manager :)
Lovely home in a wonderful area!
Pictures cannot truly capture the charm of this home. My family and I loved the small neighborhood it is located in where you can ride bikes, go for a walk or sit on the porch and swing while having your morning coffee. The Orange Beach area showed to be one of the friendliest vacation spots I have experienced. As well I truly cannot say enough about Caroline the property manager. We have stayed at several VRBO properties and Caroline helped make this experience by far was our best. We will be back soon to enjoy this lovely home again! Thank you again,
The Walsh Family
