About David and Karen Colwell
David and I grew up in Minnesota where living on one of the more than 10,000 lakes has been our good fortune. When looking for a vacation property living on the water in a warm climate was our priority. We found a dream location here on the beach in Bucerias. We looked at property in Honolulu but opted for Mexico because of the friendliness of the culture, wonderful climate and reasonable flight duration & fares. We vacationed in Puerto Vallarta many times and when the grandchildren came along we rented villas in the Bucerias/La Cruz area. During the final days of one of our trips we looked at some properties...it was love at first sight when we saw this casa. During the last 4 years we have added 2 bedrooms, 2 baths and made many other improvements. Each year Casa Coco acquires a new feature and becomes more comfortable and beautiful.
David and Karen Colwell purchased this Villa in 2005
Why David and Karen Colwell chose Bucerías
Casa Coco is a place of extraordinary beauty...the blue Sierra Madre mountains surround the bay and brightly colored tropical flowers and coconut palms surrounding the villa. We never tire of the views and nothing is more pleasurable than walking out of the casa onto the beach for a stroll or a swim. We have had such memorable times with family and friends, sitting under the palapa with a morning coffee, watching the Whales and Dolphins or playing board games & cards. We also enjoy watching the cruise ships slip out of port at night and head out to sea...and of course the sound of the waves from the bedroom windows is always so relaxing.
What makes this Villa unique
We're within an easy walk of some of the finest restaurants and shops in the Puerto Vallarta area not to mention being located directly on one of Mexico's finest beaches. We are so grateful for the memorable times we have had entertaining family and friends as well as being able to share our little piece of Paradise with so many amazing rental guests

Absolutely The Best
My wife and I save for a few years to take our whole family (including grandchildren) to Bucerias as we had been traveling to this town for 10 years. Upon arrival at the Casa, we were met with a short case of Pacifico's in the frig and salsa and chips on the kitchen counter. This was just the beginning of a great stay. The site manager soon arrived and spent time going over the property with us. In addition, he came a couple of times during the week to make sure everything was okay. The Casa came with Lupita, much more than just a house keeper. We had her cook for us for breakfast and 3 dinners. She was AWESOME! On our last day there, my grandson was stung by a Manta Ray. Lupita grabbed some plants in the sand, boiled the leaves and had him soak his foot in the broth. Two hours later he was up and at it again. We really cannot not give her enough praise. And the owners, well Karen and David are very responsive to emails and give excellent service to those that choose to stay. The Casa was well furnished, comfortable, and without a doubt I would stay here again. Truly a great trip. Thank you Lupita, Karen, and David.
Simply the best!
Our 2nd time around at this beautiful home. I have another review from last year, same time, so check it out. Everything remains the same - tho an added pool cover which helped tremendously and a new gas grill which was very much appreciated. We bought from the local fisherman some awesome shrimp and a lobster catch that we cooked up so the grill came in handy for many meals. The home is everything you see on the website and even better. Lupita is still just as gracious as she can be, tho the language barrier is a little difficult. No biggy, she tries her best (as we do!!) to understand but if not, hey, we're in Mexico!!
She's certainly a keeper Karen. Again, we had the best of times, great company and probably the best home on the beach. Couldn't ask for more. I HIGHLY recommend this to any large group that is looking to be all together and Karen is more than accommodating with our e-mails back and forth with my many questions! Perfect spot, you won't be disappointed.
Perfect spot for a large group
Our family celebrated not only Christmas but our parents 60th wedding anniversary at Casa Coco in Dec/16. It was all the reviews had promised so I won't go into those details. It has all been said. The home was perfect, weather was excellent. What I would like to offer as a vacation owner myself, are a few things I would like to know if I were booking this property. These are not meant to be criticisms, only things to think about if you are like me and want to know everything !
- the home is located right on a public beach access. This means increased traffic & noise. Dog walkers arrived by 7 am with their very excited dogs ! Fishermen use this access to get to the beach which made for some very interesting times watching them cast their nets to fish, but then they cleaned the fish right there so the smell was a bit much depending on the wind. The pelicans were amazing to watch as they waited for the scraps.
-Perhaps because we were there over the Christmas week it was busier than usual, the bar across the street was noisy every single night with music, people. Fun if that's your scene, not fun if you like sleep.
- As someone who lives on the sea I know the water changes depending on the season. The waves when we were there were LOUD, the surf pounded at times so hard we were woken up from a sound sleep. If you are a light sleeper, I would suggest ear plugs . It was magnificent, but sometimes it was hard to even carry on a conversation on the front patio. Mother Nature is a force !! That said, the water was warm and we swam many times a day. Not a beach for little ones without an adult right beside.
-We had high hopes for the Muffin Man we had heard so much about. He did come one day, late in the afternoon so we bought muffins for the next morning. Don't hold your breath on this, maybe they are better bought first thing.
-Lapita was great, we had her cook 3 meals for us which I would highly recommend rather than eating out. Lots of food, fresh, well prepared. She does not speak any English. None. I was not expecting that so if you don't speak Spanish, better download an App to communicate or practice your Charades skills before you go.
-The house was well stocked , my only suggestion would be a second fridge in the kitchen. It was a challenge to stock food & drinks for 11 people for a week so this meant we were constantly having to go to the store. A second fridge for drinks would have saved the day.
-All in all , a great spot. Thank you!
Christmas is a very busy time on the beach so there are many activities and music played by the locals. It isn't always the kind of music we North Americans appreciate but adds to the cultural experience.
Bucerias means "city of the divers" and our beach has three oyster divers who bring in their catch and crack the shells to ready the oysters for sale. Once a day a fisherman brings in his net catch of fish. It's an interesting experience seeing the variety of fish living in Banderas Bay. The pelicans gather and eat every last bit of waste. I think most guests would enjoy this experience.
Unfortunately our muffin man passed away this year. We miss seeing him come down the beach with his basket full of muffins on his head. Hopefully someone will come along and be able to fill his shoes.
I think another refrigerator is a great idea and we are going to make that happen soon.
Our family of 9 rented the Casa Coco in April 2016 for 10 days. We live in Canada & was our first time going through vrbo. We can't say enough about how amazing it was to deal with Karen. We contacted her directly at her home & she was so informative & answered all of our questions. She has compiled an amazing book with all the information you'll need for the house & the area. When we arrived at the house we were absolutely stunned. This house is more beautiful than the pictures could ever show. Everything is not only clean & very well maintained but also has every thing you would need for a fabulous holiday. Right from floaty chairs for the pool, kids toys for the beach, kayaks, life jackets, every kind of book you could ever want, movies, amazing wifi....& tons more.
Our family loved this house, we had 8 adults & our 5 year old granddaughter. Every one had their own space & plenty of family time in the amazing pool area, large living room, 3rd floor lounging area & stunning ocean patio.
We had Lupita make our first nights dinner...it was delicious.
The house manager is a very nice fellow, also very helpful & full of information.
We also loved the area....Bucerias is a great place...lots to do & see
We would highly recommend renting this house & Lupita's meals.
We hope to one day return.
Thank you Karen for making our family holiday AMAZING.
Casa Coco Paradise!!!
We are a family group that does a vacation most years in Mexico. We have stayed other places and found Casa Coco to be by far the most amazing place we have stayed.
We could not believe the beauty of the home, pool area, bedrooms, sitting areas, etc... We spent our days in the pool or walking on the beach. So lovely!!!
Our family would recommend this home hands down to anyone that would like to try renting a house in Mexico. By the way Bucerias is amazing.
Everything went so smoothly.
Thank you to Lupita for our arrival day meal. It was wonderful! What a wonderful way to start our vacation.
WE WILL BE BACK!!!
Our family of 12, (ages 9 to 80 yrs) had the pleasure of renting Dave & Karen's beautiful home last week and what a joy it was! We couldn't have asked for more and the teenager's and the young children had such a blast in the ocean with the Kayak and 5 or 6 Boogie boards that were provided . We bought fresh shrimp from the local's that were netting the shrimp everyday along side the home and walked the long beach down to Fat Boy's Restaurant, $14 & $16 US massages on the beach and went to Buzzo's bar right across the street a few times. There are also many restaurants along the beach. Lupita (the housekeeper) made us a couple of meals that were beyond our expectations and I highly recommend that you take advantage of this amenity for a very inexpensive price. You won't be disappointed. Every room in this home is exactly like the pictures shown, all facing the ocean for a perfect view. It is so spacious and the kitchen is well equipped with every imaginable gadget, many blenders, pot's and pans, utensils and plenty of dinnerware and glassware. We thoroughly enjoyed the laid back atmosphere of this home and would highly recommend this to everyone while staying in Bucerius.
Karen and Dave were very accommodating to our every need, Kim (the property manager) visited us a couple of times to make sure all was going as expected and Lupita, I can't say enough about her. She went along doing her daily service and super nice to work with. (Karen, she is GREAT!). Before renting this home, I read thru all the reviews and couldn't find anything negative and our experience was all positive as well. We certainly made a good choice on this home. Oh, the beds were all super comfortable as well. Thank you, thank you Karen and David. we loved it there.
Every activity related to the beach and ocean is available, boogie boarding, kayaking, horseback riding, sailboarding, paddle boarding and much more...
