Ask me about wonderful places to explore; hikes, swimming holes, hot springs. I can also arrange for horseback riding or in-house massage. Plus I can set you up with wine or olive oil tasting!
Kristina Knapic purchased this estate in 2004
I always loved taking day trips to Ojai to enjoy the peace and serenity of the country. I loved going on horseback rides and hiking along the river discovering swimming holes. When I saw this house online I had to see it and when I walked in the entryway I was sold. The Mansion is a stunning piece of history and a gorgeous property. Weddings and events are held at the Mansion, contact us for an event package.
The Mansion may look formal with its handpainted ceilings and antique furniture but it is also very comfortable and warm. The grounds are a wonderful place to explore, pick fruits from the trees and find eggs hidden by our resident hens. The game room with its pool table and dart board is a fun place to hang out and visit with the horses who love to poke their heads through the windows!
My wife and I had a nice weekend stay at the Acacia Mansion. It could not have been better. Every little detail was perfect. The property is clean, beautiful, warm, inviting and such a nice space to be in. Kristina is a professional and inviting host. We couldn't ask for better. I'm not easily impressed and am usually very critical as a traveler. I cannot find a thing that I would want more from an inn. A+!!!
Stayed here with friends over the long weekend and we had a wonderful time. The house is charming, unique, spacious and beautiful. It felt as if we had been transported back to the 30s and as if there were mysteries behind every door. The grounds are incredible - there are fruit trees, chickens, alpacas, horses, a pool, a hot tub, a fire pit and a saloon. Kristina, the owner, was also very helpful and accessible and she has great recommendations for things to do and see in town. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this home and I hope to visit it again!
All of my children, grandchildren and our first great grandchild due at any time, spent the Memorial Day weekend at the Mansion. It was wonderful. The Mansion is hard to describe with lots of places to explore, alpaca to feed, eggs to gather and oranges to pick for fresh juice in the morning. There were 16 of us and it accommodated us all. The garden is beautiful, we relaxed and floated in the pool. The older boys loved the saloon and the outside fireplace was a hit with the adults. Kristina was delightful. She was so friendly, accommodating and spent time getting us informed about the property. We attended events for 4 days at the Ojai Spa and Resort for a family wedding and it was a very easy drive. A couple of young adults even walked. Thank you Kristina. We would definitely recommend this property and will be back if ever in the area again.
I booked the Acacia Mansion for a post-graduation weekend celebration/getaway with 12 of my closest friends and family members. We were a group in our 40's and 50's, so it wasn't too wild...but read on and you'll see how much fun this place is. First I have to say that the photos on the website, while accurate, do not do this property justice. It is a beautiful and stately Spanish-style home (circa 1929) in a quiet residential neighborhood just outside of Ojai proper. The owner Kristina has styled the main rooms very elegantly, and this is reflective of the grandeur of the home. Each of the five main bedrooms is different, with elegant and tasteful antique furnishings and finishes. The beds were comfortable (I stayed in the Red Lotus suite), and several had private baths. There was also a bonus room in the den that doubles as an office, complete with a Murphy bed in the wall and adjacent bathroom.
Everything you might need at home was on hand, including extra sheets, towels, bath amenities, coffee, etc. The gourmet kitchen was fully stocked with the essentials and much more. We're accustomed to staying in hotels, and this really was like staying at someone's grand old home. We (the girls) used the kitchen to cook a big dinner on Saturday evening (while the guys bbq'd tri-tip outside) and we made a lovely brunch buffet on Sunday morning that we enjoyed at the umbrella tables outside. Despite having to hunt for a few things in the kitchen, we found all that we needed. The fresh oranges from the orchard (that we squeezed daily (with a really cool gizmo in the kitchen) made wonderful mimosas! The animals on the property (chickens and alpacas) were cute and friendly, and we enjoyed giving them approved snacks and taking photos. Well, maybe the chickens weren't very social, but we harvested their eggs to make a really nice quiche.
Now comes the fun part. Saturday night was the big celebration because all of my guests had arrived by that time. Kristina had shared with me that there were several trunks full of various costumes and accoutrement that we were free to use. So we did. Everyone dressed up and we took some hilarious photos in the saloon (that's not a typo) outside before venturing into the salon/living room for some impromptu karaoke with the player piano. The piano I might mention had everything from Mozart to Madonna. It was a hoot.
The last night of our trip was a bit melancholy (only because we had to leave the next day). I'll be back!
The Acacia Mansion experience was fun. Sleeping up to 17 is a stretch for adults. We had three boys 7, 10 and 16 who made it possible for 15. The first arrivals found it musty smelling and opened windows right away. The "gourmet" kitchen was unusual. The stated available staples were mostly items left by past visitors, sauce pans were thin and small for a large crowd. There were good frying pans, a hand beater and coffee makers. Watch out for the grill, very hot and difficult to adjust. The refrigerator/freezer was not working well. Extra sheets and towels were available but the closets were full and not marked making it difficult to find sizes. We washed the original sheets and towels when switches were made. The saloon was used two nights. It is remote from the main house and close to the SPA which was noisy. The dipping pool did not get cleaned until the day we before we left. The patio was very pleasant and the fireplace made a nice gathering place in the evening. Oranges were abundant and the juicer was great. The boys collected eggs, a first for them. The alpaca were a surprise. They were gentle and didn't bother the egg gathers. We missed the shearing but Kristina sent pictures. Kristina was available for help and supplies at all times. The location is in an older part of town, a short drive to downtown and a short walk to an easy trail through a park. Real hikes are everywhere. Wine tasting and pizza were hard to find. Sunday's Farmers Market was outstanding.
All in all it was a unique 50th Wedding Anniversary party week with family and friends.
All of my friends loved the house! Lots of places to take pictures in our costumes, especially the Saloon with the bar. Beds were comfy and lots of places to sleep, 9 beds total including the pull out bed in the Saloon and the fold down queen bed in the office. Very cute Alpacas and pretty horses. We ate fresh eggs in the morning and had a fun, relaxing time. We enjoyed the dipping pool, jacuzzi and had a BBQ. Kristina is very nice and showed us around! We even got to see the kinky Dungeon basement! We were worried the neighbors would think we were too loud but everything turned out perfect. A wonderful way to celebrate my 30th birthday!
We had a large group to include 10 adults and 7 children. The Acacia mansion easily accommodated us. The kitchen had everything we needed for several cooks to use at once. We used the patio to serve Thanksgiving dinner. Kristina provided us with banquet tables and chairs. We all enjoyed the jacuzzi, dipping pool, both outdoor fireplaces, saloon and player piano. The kids loved the dress-up items that were in the house, as well as the alpacas, horses and chickens that were on the property. We all had such a great time. The town of Ojai was also a great area to visit. Kristina recommended a local place for horseback riding which a group of us did and had a wonderful time. There were a couple of small maintenance items that need to be addressed, such as a broken window in the saloon and corner room, a few cosmetic issues and a refrigerator that may need to be updated. But these issues were easily overlooked due to the charming charactor of the house. Thank you Kristina
