Rental Information: Welcome to Old Orchard Beach
Remember the summer when you were a child and your family left for a vacation? Remember how you dreamed about what you wanted to do to make your vacation perfect? First, there had to be things to do, lots of things, and then there had to be food, like pizza, fried dough, hamburgers, cotton candy, & popcorn, etc. And then there had to be a beach, a big broad stretch of sand where you could build castles, a place to run & throw footballs, a place to lay in the sun and feel its warmth. Remember those thoughts and dreams? That vacation still exists in Old Orchard Beach and is waiting for your children and the child still inside of you. It's almost impossible *not* to have fun at Old Orchard. Beside all the family-style restaurants downtown, you can try your luck at video games, jump on a ride, treat yourself to an ice cream or a cold soda. Thrills, chills, and frills, take your pick.
Directions to High Tide:: Take Maine Tnpk (#95) to Exit #36 (#195 East). Go through the toll booth for about a mile and bear left at the gas station onto Saco Avenue. Drive another mile to a set of lights (school and fire station on left), continue straight down the hill for a couple hundred yards to Pine Ave. on your right by the picket fence. Turn right and bear left and watch for 7th St. on your right. Go up 7th and turn right onto Evergreen Ave. Park in the large parking lot with the painted flowered fence on your left. Our gray van might be parked in there. Pull in beside it. We should be there to greet you with your keys to your home away from home. If by chance we are not present to greet you, go to the rental and make yourself at home. The door should be left unlocked waiting for your arrival. Begin your vacation and we will catch you when we arrive back from our business.
I am a retired teacher from Boston, my wife was a nurses assistant from Riverside, NJ. We are both retired and enjoy Maine from early June to late October before leaving for our home in West Palm Beach, FL.
Jack Smith purchased this house in 1983
It's sqeaky clean, in a quiet neighborhood, and is close to all that OOB has to offer. Last year our property was rented fully right up to mid October, which tells you of its popularity.
It serves as a HUB reaching various locations in every direction, from Boston to the south, to NH to the west, Bar Harbor to the north, and all of Maine's wonderfull coastline of quaint villages with its nooks and crannies of surprises along the shore. Wonderful restaurants will be found in your travels and those unique gift shops and antique stores pop up in the most unusual places. You may find an old broken down castle, great ocean views, a path to the Giant Steps, a small settlement of rental cottages, a panoramic bay full of boats, all sorts of small restaurants with park benches to enjoy a lobsta roll or to just plain stop to rest some weary bones. Use your cell phone to find the Dolphin Mariner where the scenery is spectacular and has one of Maine's 'best kept secret ' restaurants to test your palate and where you will find Maine's BEST fish chowda, along with the free warm blueberry cupcake. It's guest book will tell you that others from all over the world have found their hard to find establishment. Helicopters arrive daily to allow their owners to taste the wonders of Harpswell Island. Enjoy crossing the strange looking Cribbage Bridge onto Orrs Island and enjoy the wonders of Bailey's Island, which I strongly feel is Maine's most scenic tour as many of the small side roads hide hidden treasures and ecletic views.
Great experience, real cozy, quiet compared to the other location we used to rent (directly on East Grand avenue). Clean, everything we needed.Having breakfast on the porch with the morning sun was delightful. Great owners very friendly and resourceful!
will rent again for sure!
We stayed in 2012, but I never got around to writing a review and it wouldnt let me go back that far date wise to do it. I just wanted to say how awesome the home and the owners were. They were right next store and were always around to offer great advice and for a friendly chat. They definitely made us feel at home. Everything needed was there, from the linens and dishes to the beach house bungalow feel and the cool ocean breezes.
We'll definitely be returning and would recommend to anyone looking for an OOB getaway.
PS. Be sure to ask about the lobster stand up the street. Steamers, muscles, etc.. I think we stopped there 5 times that week.
This was my first vacation north , just my two young daughters and I. This was a cute and VERY affordable property for us. We enjoyed the entire week and Jack was very helpful with ideas and places to visit while we were there. I felt very safe and would highly recommend this rental! :)
The cottage was clean and cozy, on a one way street within walking distance to the beach and downtown activities. The owners were very helpful and helped us with plans for side trips to Portland, Ogunquit, York, and Boston (2 hours away.) It was in a great location that allowed easy travel to many scenic places. We had a lovely trip, and would recommend this listing to either a couple or family with young children.
I flew into Boston and drove the two hours north to High Tides Cottage in Old Orchard Beach. The cottage was spotless and cozy with tons of personality. The cottage is nestled in a quiet neighborhood with the friendly and helpful owners right next door, full of great tips, ideas, and information to make your stay as perfect as mine! Easy day trip access to Portland (take the $15 3-hour mailboat cruise to the Casco Bay Islands!), Scarborough, Kennebunkport and all the southern Maine coast towns. 1.5 hours from Salem Mass, No car, no problem! A nice walk to the beach, pier, and lots of restaurants, the cottage is only a 15 minute walk from the Amtrak Downeaster train station ($34 round trip from Boston to Old Orchard Beach 2011 summer season). Reasonable rates and excellent service, I'd come back again and again!
the owners are the nicest people very helpful with ideas for the area and attentive to any needs you may have. a very cute home wonderful ocean breeze truly a home away from home. we had a very relaxing week here and would definately come again
Located only 5 miles to the north is a new Christmas Tree Shoppe, a must place to shop and drop, and one mile further is the Maine Mall with over a hundred stores and a plethora of wonderful restaurants. Every weekend the Cascade Flea Market opens, yard sales are prevalent, downtown shopping on the Pier, fast food, local bar & grille, Huot's best fish chowda in Maine. Auto Diner on rout 1, best full breakfast around. Joseph's by the Sea, fanciest restaurant in OOB, many automobile dealerships a mile away, norminated Best Beach in Maine, wonderful amusement parks nearby for the complete family, you name it, OOB has it ALL
