Why Guest Service chose Oak Park
Its adorable architecture and built-in features and deep history along with the walking distance location to the Theater District and Public Market part of downtown made this a perfect home for our friends, family and guests on VRBO. We love this home and hope you will too.

Not as adorable as we’d hoped
We had a mixed experience here. Positives: Excellent location, nice walk to downtown and fun eateries. Beds, linens are excellent. Heat fine in dining rm & LR (heater vents into DR) but bdrms & bath cool. Off-street parking is a nice option but only small cars can fit. Our Toyota Corolla was fine. Internet & TV options excellent. Lynn, the property manager, responded promptly to our requests (slow drain, inadequate kitchen curtains, PIN for TV). A major downside for us was substandard shower. It’s set up in a small claw-foot tub with shower curtain + liner that need to be replaced. For the price paid here, whole shower should be upgraded, ideally the entire bath should be upgraded. In the VRBO ad, this property describes a fireplace, which is also pictured. But the insert “woodstove” doesn’t work and the book for the cottage says it needs a part that’s no longer available. Owner should either change out the insert or delete “fireplace” as an amenity. While kitchen has dishes & cooking utensils, there are no spices, sugar, etc. Also for our 3-week stay, there was one roll of toilet paper, no Kleenex. There is considerable street noise off Micheltorena.
Rented the property for the holidays because my daughter lives close by. That part of the rental agreement was terrific & worked out well. Also, the rental was very clean.
Criticism of the rental is based on: 1) the only bathroom in the rental. It is an old clawfoot tub with a shower curtain surround. There is no room in the shower to put toiletries, shampoo, etc. There is inadequate space to hang towels after use to be able for them to dry. The window is old and leaky and difficult to access, & the outside temperatures at night were in the 40's. In my opinion, the owner would benefit from a major remodel of this space. There is a huge laundry room space that is wasted & an additional bathroom there would be an asset.
The second problem was the lack of heat in the bedrooms/bath area. The only central heat is in the dining room. At night, with bedroom doors closed for privacy, the heat in the bedrooms dipped to the mid - 50's. We borrowed a space heater from a friend.
The parking space in the alley is difficult at best. We ended up doing street parking.
The living space is adequate and comfortable. Proximity to downtown Santa Barbara is great.
Very nice place close to state street. Bathroom could use updating. P
Thanks for our stay.
Cute place near downtown Santa Barbara
The house was conveniently located so we were able to walk for food which was nice. It has a small convenience store 2 doors down which was also a bonus. We stayed in summer when the temp got a bit high, the house heated up throughout the day so was quite warm in the late afternoon and evenings. There was no air conditioning so we used the fans and opened the windows and doors to cool it down, which took a while. Other than that the place was great.
Cute but heat a major issue
This is indeed a charming little house in a convenient location and we liked that. However, the fans (there is no air conditioning) do not keep the house cool. We were there In early August and would close up all when we went out . When we returned, the house was always at 95 degrees and over 100 sometimes. It was so hot that we had to keep the front and back doors wide open and all the windows were open too. A neighbour said that the previous renters had the same issue. That kind of heat is intolerable, unhealthy and unacceptable in a rental of this sort. Another issue is that we didn’t feel very secure as the windows are old and screens (have to leave open to get air) are not fitted and some just dangle. Some didn’t have screens and when we asked about it someone promptly came and stapled screen material to windows. This is on a relatively busy street and it did concern us. The kitchen and bathroom are tiny and outdated but I would be ok with that if the heat issue and secure window issue were resolved . This place has potential but those 2 serious issues need to be addressed. I really should have put 1 or 2 stars because of this.
Adorable in every way.
Great location for guests that love to park and walk during their trip - or only drive a short distance. Walk to dining, shopping, spas, wineries, theater and more.
