About Kati Nickerson
We live in north Puget Sound and have two adult children. We spent very summer of their early years sailing the San Juan and Gulf Islands and have traveled with them all over the world, including a once in a lifetime two-week sailing trip in the Greek Islands. We all believe that Orcas Island is the most beautiful place on earth.Sharing our home with others is a great joy and helps make our dream of owning a home in the San Juans possible.
Why Kati Nickerson chose Eastsound
It's the JUST RIGHT place! Room enough for large groups but cozy and warm and sooo comfortable when it is just the two of us. We have good friends with a home on the water near our home. Every time we left we'd look at the (at the time) distressed Craftsman Beach House and say "if that ever went on the market let's try to buy it". Well, it did and we did! The location is ideal with the stunning view, and the bright open acre to play on and grow fruit trees. The property gets lots of light. Our favorite marine parks in the San Juans (Sucia and Matia) are just a 10 minute power boat ride away. With a stunning 'exploring' beach a short stroll down the lawn, the town just walking distance (ok, a 40 minute walk, but still) or a short bike ride-(10 minutes) away, and great friends nearby, this home had everything we dreamed.
What makes this House unique
Really, we never have to leave if we don't want to! The big lawn is great for frisbee and all manner of family yard games; the firepit for songs, stories and s'mores; the beach to explore for hours and build forts; the warm, casual and traditional house for gatherings large and small and an old porch to sit on with a glass of wine while Mt. Baker lights up the sky. We have to pinch ourselves sometimes.

Wonderful house and garden for a family
We loved the airy, spacious house which is also very functional. The enclosed and very large garden is fabulous and full of interest. Extremely friendly neighbours made this, our second stay on Orcas, truly memorable. We hope to stay in this property again.
Great house, room for all. Views of Mt. Baker our amazing. Felt like we were camping in the woods. Saw lots of deer, birds, fun times.
Awesome home for a family getaway
We stayed with 8 adults, 3 toddlers, and 1 newborn, and we had a great time. We might have different standaards due to our Dutch roots, but for us it was an ideal place to stay. Beautiful views - ocean + Mt. Baker, a large and completely fenced garden so the kids could play without too much supervision, enough tables and chairs to accommodate 12 on tables and chairs inside and out, only a two minute walk to a stone beach for more adventure, and the rooms are pretty sound proof (taking into account 3 noisy kids, we didn’t hear a lot from one another in the nights and mornings). The interior was very functional, but still cozy, which gave us the feeling that we could actually ‘live’ in the house, instead of watch our steps too much (with the children). One tiny miny downside was that two bathrooms were not the cleanest, but I bet that the homeowner will tackle that from now on. There are games and three kayaks. Also the location is ideal on the island. A 5 min ride to Eastsound, and in the middle from the east and west side of the island. Highly recommend this home for a great family vacation on the island.
Great experience for a relaxing family vacation!
Our family was able to enjoy the experiences of the island while relaxing in the sea air. Lots of laughing, new experiences, and reading time!
PERFECT place for a group
We had 3 generations together and all thoroughly enjoyed the location and set up. Beautiful views, ample space for gathering, nice amenities with large enough kitchen for group meals. All dishes etc were good quality for meal prep. lots of nice extras like 3 sets of binoculars to pass around when the Orcas were swimming past. Visited by river otters, lots of deer, Orcas, wild turkeys, bald eagles and lots of other birds.
Beautiful old house in a beautiful setting
We had a great time in the Orcas Island craftsman house. It was plenty of space for ten adults and two small children. We loved the big yard and the fire pit. The kitchen is well stocked and the beds were comfy. Overall a great experience.
Moran State Park, Cascade Lake, Mt. Constitution. Whale watching, excellent skateboard park, jr. sailing lessons, great farmers market.
