Glenora farms is yet another of the valley's organic farm to table restaurants. Envision seeing pallets of home grown tomatoes, while nearby an outdoor cauldron boils with fresh homemade tomato soups and pasta sauce. Several of the surrounding areas provide hiking, biking and walking trails. Two fresh water lakes, Shawnigan and Cowichan are the perfect places for fresh water activities. The Koksilah and Cowichan rivers flow through the valley,; in the fall the salmon run brings in the bald eagles in proliferation. Both of these rivers in the summers are wonderful places to swim, cool off and enjoy. Whale watching tours, fishing charters are all nearby in Cowichan Bay. Shopping, antiquing, golfing, bird watching, museums, art studios, dining and warm friendly people are just a few of the other attractions that the Cowichan Valley and Maple Bay have to offer.

About Kathryn Belsher & John Nichols

John grew up in Toronto and spent his youth racing Sailboats, he relocated to Vancouver where he's been for many years since, I grew up in Calgary and spent my youth downhill skiing and riding horses, remaining a prairie girl my entire life until now. We met in Nelson, BC during the winter of 2014 where both of our sons were playing Junior hockey. John has one son who is 21, I have 3 sons who are 25, 21 and 20. When the boys are together our grocery bills quadruple! I moved to the island for work in the summer of 2016; John's job changed later that year, at which time he also became an Island resident. We were incredibly fortunate enough to find our dream home on the water in Maple Bay in early spring 2017, moving in a few months later. John currently works from home, his business is commercial industrial heating, ventilation, and air quality control equipment for BC's many mills. I have a background teaching yoga, as well as accounting. I gave up accounting work to follow a passion and dream in health and wellness, going back to school and studying Registered Massage Therapy. I'm now proud to say I'm an RMT through Alberta's College of Massage Therapy, and continue to study to write board exams for BC to be registered here also. I work from home practicing my massage, work in Duncan also doing massage and teaching yoga. We love our island life, and pinch ourselves every day that we are fortunate enough to live in this magical place. We truly cherish the friends, neighbours and colleagues we've met who are all so friendly, open and eager to welcome us. We hope you find the same enchanting experience when you come to visit us at Seaside Casita Maple Bay.

Seaside Casita, Maple Bay - The Advertised View

  • 4 of 5

Our stay at the Seaside Casita in Maple Bay was as advertised & met our expectation. First, the community of Maple Bay is lovely and made more special by our hosts Kathryn & John. It was a pleasure to stay in their studio and be entertained each morning by a family of sea otters. As well, it was delightful to prepare meals in a kitchen that looks out onto the views included in the pictures. Kathryn & John also provided dighnys & kayaks of which we took full advantage. Overall, Seaside Casita is ideally located for wine tours, hikes, and whale watching expeditions. Kathryn, John & the two labradors were great hosts and we hope to return.

Cheers

Living with nature!

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I stayed at this ABNB in August as a special treat! The location was incredible - waking up early in the morning and looking over Maple Bay - watching a "raft" of sea otters playing on the rocks and again in the water, a raccoon family peering down as we sat outside by the sea, enjoying the late night air. Truly a vacation in nature!
