Immense walk-out basement for all your sports gear. Furnished in a comfortable mix of new and old. Included are all linens & kitchen gear, gas grill on the deck, washer & dryer, wireless internet, a Roku box, 32 inch LCD, DVD and CD, stereo. Flower boxes and planters all around.
About the parking you see in the photos from the deck. It is a resident-only lot with very limited use for the residents of the Cranberry Isles; it is not a busy or active lot. Islanders park, ride the passenger ferry out, and return to the mainland when they need their car for a trip to Ellsworth or Bangor. I am confident you will not be aware of comings or goings. We have 9 years experience with it and not a single guest has commented negatively. And now, the trees have grown in and it is well-screened. We were disappointed when it was built in 2003, but it was needed for the year-round viability of the Cranberry Isles community. The unexpected plus was that removing trees really opened up the views of the water and the hills.
My family and I have been coming to Southwest Harbor and Bass Harbor since the early 70s. We appreciate the 'quiet side' of the island for its traditional Downeast villages, far fewer crowds, good restaurants, shops and services, and the Acadia National Park properties on this side of the island. I provide my guests with four pages of 'off the beaten track' ideas and suggestions to help them get an insider's view of this most beautiful part of Maine.

Manset House is on quiet Rt 102A, just under two miles from 'downtown' Southwest Harbor. The house is in a quiet semi-residential area on a fully private 1.5 acre lot.
We are a two min walk to the Manset shore and its boat ramp, restaurant and marine businesses, notably the famous Hinckley Yachts complex. Also on the Shore Road are sailboat and powerboat rentals, the town dock for watching the fishermen and doing some yourself, and ferries to Somes Sound, Northeast Harbor and Little Cranberry Island. Several shore roads connect for a nice, low-traffic jogging or walking route. Less than five min. drive to Southwest Harbor stores, shops and restaurants.
This is the 'Quiet Side' of Mt. Desert Island, with world-class kayaking and sailing, biking, hiking trails, swimming in salt and freshwater. Acadia National Park attractions within a 10 minute bike ride from the house include Seawall, Wonderland, Ship Harbor, and Bass Harbor Light. Ten minute drive to Echo Lake beach.
Other Activities: My family and I have spent summers on the island for over 25 years. I have a 4 page guide with ideas and 'off the beaten path' suggestions that I will provide before your arrival.
The three most popular activities among my guests (besides relaxing with the view from the back deck at the end of the day) are hiking, biking, and kayaking. Tremendous bicycling for all levels from the house and on the Carriage Roads in the National Park. Fantastic kayaking opportunities all around, either for self-paced touring or going with a small group from one of several local outfitters. And plenty of hiking as well, for all ages and fitness levels. Here on the 'quiet side', we have a ton of high-payoff, low-effort trails- excellent for the whole family.
Golf: The Causeway Club in Southwest Harbor and the Bar Harbor Golf Club are public courses available to you.

About the owner: We have strong family ties to SW Harbor and the island. Our three great aunts worked as summer help in the 'cottages' of Bar Harbor in the 1940s and made the long trip from Boston by train, steamer and finally the coastal packet. My wife's family spent summers in SWH starting in the 70s, the same time I was in college in Maine and making my first camping trips to the island. We bought our Bass Harbor house on our honeymoon in '85 and have had the good fortune to spend a lot of our summers there ever since. Our 20-something children have now begun to bring their friends to MDI so we're well into three generations as 'summah people', as the real Mainers might call us. Come visit and be one too!

The great aunts I mentioned bought this house in the mid-70s. We enjoyed many fabulous visits and meals under their hospitality. We bought the house from them in 2000 and began to rent it in 2002. It's private, sunny, very clean and comfortable with very nice views.
