About Trent Thrift
I grew up in Chatham County NC on a farm and I still live on the same land. It has been in my family since 1899 as far as I can tell by old family deeds dating back to my great grandmother. We have over 20 acres of pine trees and a small herd of goats. I am a CNC machinist. My wife is a CPA. We have a total of 5 kids between us biological and step. We grow our own food and eat deer from our land.
Trent Thrift purchased this Cabin in 2013
Why Trent Thrift chose Beech Mountain
I had the thought years ago to have a cabin in the woods when I retired and when my wife Michelle and I got married we had our honeymoon in the Valle Crucis/Banner Elk area and I decided that this was the area that I would like to search in for a mountain home.
What makes this Cabin unique
This home is in a quiet neighborhood setting in Beech Mountain. It is just a few minutes from downtown. There are a lot of wildlife in the neighborhood. The entire home is crafted tongue in groove wood. We love coming up to the cabin in July and August when it's 90+ degrees at home and arriving to find temperatures in the mid 70's.

I went in hopes of snow but instead I got disappointed with warmer than usual temps. But thankfully the Grizzly Inn didn't disappoint. It was in a great location, every time we came and went we saw deer which is a lot of the reason I keep coming back to Beech Mtn. My Puggle loved going up and down the stairs and since we don't get to experience that often it was fun to see her having so much fun. We enjoyed our stay very much and Mr. Thrift was very quick to respond to any questions I had. I would love to go back and maybe take another chance at seeing snow some time. Thank You for sharing your lovely home with us!
Great cabin for our family of 4
We had a wonderful time in Beech Mountain and staying at the Grizzly Inn for our ski vacation. The cabin is compact and well supplied. It had all of the kitchen appliances we needed for our various meals during our 5 night stay including a crock pot that was very handy for those long days at the slopes. The kids loved having a tv in their room (though channels are limited, they were more than adequate for what time we spent watching television). We would stay here again. Thanks for sharing your mountain cabin with us.
Cozy Cabin for Two
My fiancè and I enjoyed our moutain get-a-way vacation with our dogs. The cabin was cozy and the perfect size for us. I loved how it was on a hill top and a good distance from neighbors so it provided the privacy we were looking for. The wifi worked great which was beneficial as I had some work to get done. There were a few hiccups our first night but the remainder of the week was great. Also, the owner was easy to contact and always responded in a timely fashion.
Very well accommodating
It’s a very great Cabin to stay in very well taken care off! It makes you feel at home. Very great place to stay at. You will definitely enjoy your stay here!
My husband and I had a wonderful time. The cabin is beautiful, very clean and with everything we needed. The location was amazing, and we enjoyed increíble views!!. The owner was very communicative and very helpful. We will definitely come back again!!!
Thank you Samildre for your nice review of our cabin. We are glad you and your husband enjoyed your stay here and we would welcome you back again anytime.
Wonderful home in a relaxing setting!
If you need a "dog friendly" mountain rental, this is the best! The home is very clean without excess decorations or clutter but has absolutely everything needed for a relaxing vacation. The kitchen is well stocked and has any small appliance a renter may want to use...even has a blender and waffle iron! The owner quickly responds to any question or even any problem encountered and honestly seems to want your stay to be the best vacation yet. The setting is gorgeous and quiet so there are many deer, wild turkeys, chipmunks, and other wildlife everywhere. We found this rental to be a "home" not just a "house" and will hopefully visit again! The Stewarts
Thank you for your gracious review. My wife and I are glad liked our home and we would gladly welcome you back for another stay. Our kitchen is stocked so that you don't have to scratch just to get by. You can feel like it's home and live there. Thanks again.
For our winter guests please be aware that Beech Mountain is a cold climate town that has averaged over 80 inches of snow per year since 1991. Four wheel drive/All wheel drive vehicles are almost always necessary during snowy weather. Snow chains may be needed during extreme conditions. Our driveway is not steep but there are steep roads around Beech Mountain. The town of Beech Mountain makes an effort of keeping the streets clear during tourist/ski season for the visitors. Be prepared to make it here and back safely in adverse weather conditions. Check the weather forecast before you leave home. For our snow skiing guests our home is located about 6 minutes from the ski slopes. Distance wise is just about 2.5 miles but speed limits in town are generally around 25 mph. There are several small shops in Beech Mountain and neighboring Banner Elk to browse and have dinner at. There are regular festivals ongoing in the area throughout the year. Hiking, mountain biking, waterfalls, gorgeous mountain views and extra cool summer weather are a great part of the town of Beech Mountain. There are deer and other wildlife everywhere. You can't come here for a weekend and not see anything unless you stay inside. In some areas of town it's quite the peaceful mountain getaway from the noise of the city.
