One Week in Orlando

Sabine's place was really nice. It was a good size for our group and we liked that the location was close enough to downtown to be able to walk. You could also walk to many neighborhood coffee shops, restaurants, bars, shops, etc., which was very convenient. The porch was nice to relax on and the beds were very comfortable. The only downside was the small kitchen and lack of appliances. The coffee pot (french press) was broken when we got there and the dishwasher was also broken. This was pretty inconvenient since we were traveling with kids and eating in a lot and didn't really want to spend a bunch of time doing dishes. Also, it seems that the owner put in a property damage claim for a broken teapot, which is confusing because I do not recall seeing a teapot, let alone breaking one. If they are referencing the broken french press, it was already broken when we got there.

Owner's Response: Hi Ashleigh, Thanks for the review. For the dishwasher, we are really sorry about the inconvenience, cause the repair pending, we have to schedule an appointment with the repair company, and it takes time. It's not the coffee pot, it's the teapot. When our cleaning crew cleaned the house before you checked in, the teapot was not broken. And also after you checked out, we found the whole package of toilet paper was taken in the garage, which guests were not allowed to enter the garage. We respect every guest that stays with us, but we report each incident by what we witnessed after the guest's departure.

Great location great parking older home

This single-family dwelling, constructed in 1925, is located in the Thornton Park neighborhood, a perfect location. Lake Eola is a short walk away. A Publix grocery store is within walking distance along with many restaurants and bars. The neighborhood is very quiet and peaceful. There is a middle school for the arts about a half a block away.

The home is nicely decorated. The beds are comfortable. Parking is at a premium in this neighborhood. The rental includes parking for two cars.

As might be expected with an older home, some problems occur. When we arrived on January 31, the microwave did not work even though the GFI did work. A handyman came to repair this problem a few days after we moved in. The handyman was unable to get the microwave to work; he told my husband that an electrician would have to check for an electrical issue the handyman was not qualified to repair. Since lights were flickering in one of the two bathrooms, the handyman’s assessment made sense.

The electrician repaired the microwave problem the next day and it worked for about a week of our stay. He did leave his cordless drill on the kitchen counter and we had to contact the owner to let her know where the drill was. The bathroom lights seemed to work better.

When we arrived at our rental on January 31, the toilet paper holder in the rear bathroom was hanging off the wall. My husband, who volunteers for Habitat for Humanity in our hometown, made a trip to the hardware store and purchased the screws to reattach the toilet paper holder. He made a second trip to the same hardware store a few days later to purchase the hardware necessary to fix a doorknob that fell off one of the bedroom doors. He repaired both.

Though it would have been appropriate for us to contact the owner about each of these breakdowns, it seemed less of a hassle to fix them ourselves.

The VRBO listing states that an iron and ironing board were included. We could not locate these items. The listing also states that fitness equipment is included. One bicycle was stored near one of the bedrooms and a yoga mat was on a shelf. It would have been necessary to move the bicycle through a hallway, dining room, and living room to get to the front door.

The front door had to be locked to stay closed.

As mentioned earlier, our toddler grand daughters were with us at this property. The home is not toddler friendly.

Perfect location! Walked everywhere and loved hanging out on the front porch.

Parking in the back was tight, but there was plenty of space in the street. Location was perfect and we were able to walk everywhere. Don’t think we got in the car once the entire weekend. We also really enjoyed hanging out of the front porch.
