Walk, ride, or bus to the heart of downtown, the universities, Parliament Hill, Shaw convention centre, Byward Market and everything Ottawa has to offer.

1 queen bed with desk and chair, air conditioned room; 1 double bed and den with desk chair and air conditioning; 1 queen sofa bed in living room. Sparkling clean kitchen, bedroom and bathroom and their linen. Separate dining room and well appointed kitchen with kitchen essentials including pots, pans, dishes, cutlery, microwave, coffee maker & utensils. Living room t.v. with wifi. Has its own separate entrance and laundry room. Share the garden, front and back and the BBQ grill. There are 2 bikes* (use at your own risk) with safety helmets* for guests to zip over to Loblaws for groceries, explOre the down town area, the bike paths along the Canal, the Rideau River or wherever you wish to go.

You need only bring your laptop and clothes. Location!

Why Elcho Stewart chose Sandy Hill

This property is close to everything that Ottawa has to offer. In fact, it embodies Ottawa: It is urban with a suburban look and feel; it is within walking distance of the downtown core; it is surrounded by embassies and diplomatic residences; is close to the universities with a diverse population of families with young children and teenagers, young couples, older empty nesters,, singles and professionals

#79 and its twin next door (#81) were built in 1930 by two brothers who raised their families side by side as purpose built duplexes. That vision can be seen and felt in the home and its gardens which explains why the home nestles as few as one or as many as 6 comfortably.

Dan and Elcho downsized from what the Realtors called a "mini mansion" only 800 meters away. They wanted to remain in their neighborhood and chose this property over condo living. They occupy the lower which will be their forever home.

Smart apartment in a great location

Elcho's apartment is very smart, comfortable and spacious.

It was well equipped and immaculately maintained.

The Sandy Hill area is a lovely part of Ottawa, which is still within easy reach of the centre. In view of parking issues that often accompany city living it was also nice to be able to park the car safely off the street and explore Ottawa on foot.

We really enjoyed our stay, and would definitely recommend it.

Our recommendations would also include the free walking tour that starts in Wellington Street (opposite the Parliament buildings) and also the "Best of Ottawa" bike tour run by Escape Bicycle Tours (in Sparks Street) both of which were superb ways to get to know the city.

Owner's Response: David and his wife Julie (we are usually discreet by mentioning only paying guests in reviews) were excellent guests. We could see that they were enjoying not just the flat but the city as well. They are also quiet, were out much and left the place clean and tidy. They were dream guests. So glad the weather cooperated but they are used to English weather anyway. Sandy is made for walking around and explOre the downtown core. We feel blessed to be living here and to share our home and community with others. Thanks for the excellent review, David. Do come again.

'home away from home' in downtown Ottawa

Our family spent 10 days in this wonderful home at the beginning of July 2018. The owners, Elcho and Dan, live on the first floor and rent out the second floor as a private flat with its own entrance. It was perfect. It was very clean with new and comfortable beds and had a well-stocked kitchen. We immediately felt at home and could really relax and enjoy our stay. Elcho was away that week, so Dan looked after all our needs and was very hospitable. We made use of the bikes provided to enjoy the nearby parks and river, used the BBQ in the backyard to cook some great meals, did our laundry in the basement and appreciated the free parking out front for our rental car. The neighborhood is quiet with beautiful homes, gardens and embassies all around - and the flat is within walking distance from the downtown Ottawa sights. We highly recommend staying in this flat and hope to be back again soon ourselves. Thank you so much Elcho and Dan!!

Beautiful 2 Bedroom Upper Floor - Would Stay There Again

We really enjoyed our stay at this lovely house.

The house is well decorate with 2 very comfortable beds. It is located around many embassies in a very quiet neighbourhood.

The kitchen is well stocked with all the essentials for preparing your meals. But close to many restaurants and attractions/

The only complaint we had was the heating system was via a boiler and the unit was very hot at times.

Re heat, noted. Please let us know the next time that we err on the side of warmth. Ottawa had been known to experience as much as -40C cold snaps. After spending a morning on the Rideau Canal, i.e. the world's longest outdoor skating rink, for example, guests appreciate coming "home" to this flat. Cold can be miserable; the heat can be adjusted to your comfort level. Glad you enjoyed the other amenities including the kitchen essentials. Please come again. Cheers!
