PRIVATE STRUCTURE. Casale dei Bombi owes its curious name to the passion of the owners’ son for tomatoes which, as a child, he called “bombi'. It is a house in which the excellent finishing touches and simple, comfortable décor reflect the owners’ refined taste and their desire to preserve the authenticity of what was once an old stable, as can be seen by the iron bars, still visible in the living room, to which the oxen were once tied. The open-face stone façade, the wooden-beamed ceilings and the beautiful terracotta floor confer on the house the typical charm of the old farmhouses, framed by a large, well-kept garden. Located halfway between Todi, a beautiful medieval hilltop town overlooking the Tiber valley, and Foligno, an old Roman town rich in history, the house stands in the perfect position for short trips to the many cultural centres such as Assisi, Orvieto and Spoleto and for enjoying the natural beauty of Umbria, the Green Heart of Italy. The proximity to fast roads, like the E45 highway and the A1 motorway, facilitates connections with many of the most beautiful cities of art in Italy such as Siena, Florence and Rome.
The property consists of 2 buildings: the main house and an annex a few metres away. MAIN HOUSE: The house has two floors connected internally by a staircase with terracotta steps. The main entrance leads into a large open-plan area containing the cosy living room and kitchen-dining room which leads out to the beautiful patio with brickwork barbecue. From the living room a small corridor leads to a double bedroom and adjacent bathroom with shower. On the first floor is a double bedroom with fireplace and a twin bedroom sharing a bathroom with tub. ANNEX: Especially attractive is the small independent building, about 20 m from the main house, which consists of a bathroom with shower on the ground floor, a double bedroom on the first floor and a small portico, the ideal place for enjoying moments of tranquillity.
The fenced-in property has a one-hectare park, on two levels, containing a well-kept garden with a lawn bursting with herbs and flowers such as rosemary, lavender and brightly coloured roses. The small olive grove next to the house, the small orchard and the great oak in the sunbathing area, all provide evocative corners where guests can relax and enjoy the peace and quiet of this area where time seems to stand still. Outside the kitchen is the delightful portico equipped with table and chairs and brickwork barbecue where guests can enjoy pleasant alfresco meals.
The pool is about 15m from the house, on a higher level and to the side, and is thus not visible from the house. It is kidney bean-shaped and measures 11.90 x 6.30 m (the minimum diameter next to the steps leading into the water is 4.40 m) with the depth ranging from1.25 to 2.20 m. It has salt purification, PVC lining and Roman steps; in the first part of the pool are hydromassage jets, perfect for enjoying a little outdoor relaxation in the quiet of the surrounding countryside. The pool has a stone border and both internal and external lighting. In the large grassy sunbathing area are sunbeds, deckchairs, umbrella and a cold and hot water shower, powered by solar panel. The pool is also provided with a cover so that it can be covered at night.
