The cabin was perfect and as advertised. Our kids had a great time in the yard and at night we had fires in the large fire pit outside. Plenty of room for a family of four or more. Also being close to Cowan's Gap State Park was a big plus, even.especially off-season. We hiked on the Tuscarora Trail which runs nearby. The Milky Way diner is just down the road for good eats too. Thanks again!
We really appreciated our time at the cabin. It had everything we needed. We found the location to be very peaceful. Plenty of area inside and out for relaxing. We plan on returning next year.
We booked this cabin for a surprise 60th Birthday for my husband. Our children came from Philly and Baltimore. We pulled off the surprise and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this wonderful cabin. Location was nice and quiet and near to Cowans Gap. We would like to make this an annual event. My husband said it was the best birthday ever and he really loved this cabin. Thank you for allowing us to experience this treat!
This cabin was great! Very clean, comfortable, and close (<1mi) to Cowans Gap state park. Beautiful decor inside the cabin. Owners were responsive and professional. Highly recommended!
One heads up: this property is on a residential (albeit rustic) street, and there are 3 other properties next door (with connecting yards). We certainly didn't mind, but this isn't what you'd call a "secluded" property.
This is a cozy, roomy cabin with a hunting-lodge vibe on beautiful grounds. The only downsides for us were things that may or may not concern you:
1. No phone.
2. no wifi.
3. Probably no cell phone service. We got enough cell service to sometimes send a text or email but not enough to make a phone call.
4. Small TV by today's standards (18 inch?)
5. Check-out time 10am. (We didn't ask beforehand, and only found out when we arrived. We thought 11am was pretty standard. We should have asked.)
Otherwise, it was quiet and bucolic. Dark inside but with plenty of both sun and shade outside. Near to Cowen's Gap which was our main reason for picking it.
We were in the area for a large family event and by the end of each day it was a welcoming retreat to come back to. I highly recommend it for anyone staying anywhere near by if you want a quiet night's sleep and waking up to bird songs. So much to see in every direction if you're a history, antique, nature nut like us. An added bonus if you have any breathing problems, it's a relief from those heavy scented hotel rooms, and it's just a walk out the door for clean mountain air, or open a window. Kids would have a safe open place to play in that yard. I heard that the local strawberry festivals in spring and apple festivals in the fall are hard to beat. A lot of stuff to see and do and still be relaxed the whole time. Loved the area, loved the cabin, and would love to go back and stay longer.
