This was our second stay at The Arctic Cottage (April 2017 and October 2017) and we just love this cottage and it's location so.

The cottage itself is so comfortable and thoughtfully appointed with a lot of seating areas, fully applianced and kitchen gadgets galore. The beds are very comfortable and linens plenty and high quality.

The location is spectacular and even on cooler/rainy days was wonderful. Private beach out the front door and the large, public beach with a sweet little playground a quick walk away. We loved catching stripers (no keepers maybe next time) off the beach and sitting by the cozy gas fireplace to warm up. The sunsets visible from the living room are breathtaking. The Arctic Cottage is a very interesting antique cottage outfitted/updated with everything we needed to relax, play, cook and enjoy quiet family time. We can not wait to return. * the folks at the convenience store Plum Island Provisions were so nice and the people at Surfland Tackle Shop were so helpful to our beginning fisherman; all 6 times we visited for more bait. We love Plum Island and The Arctic Cottage! Thank you Tom!

Family Time at the Beach

  • 4 of 5

My family came to town from SC to celebrate my birthday and I thought what could be better than staying at the beach!! The cottage was spick and span and has an authentic Plumb Island feel. We unfortunately had cold rainy weather but even in the gray the view was beautiful. It is a perfect location and we would love to come back in the warmer weather!!

An amazing, peaceful and perfect beach house

  • 5 of 5

House is right on the beach, wrap around porch, with deck chairs and beach chairs provided. Overall, a very relaxing stay. All of the bedrooms are on the second floor. The walls don't go up all of the way in between bedrooms - FYI. Stairs to the upstairs are very steep but there are railings on each side. I went in April and even with the weather being cold/rainy and in the 40s on one of the days, it was still a great place to relax. Owner was very responsive and even helped me find the house when I arrived. All linens and towels are provided, there is a washer dryer and plenty of couches/seating. Would visit again and hope to, soon! There are a few local spots within a mile - convenient store that sells coffee, prepared food, beer/wine and a few restaurants. Newburyport is about 5 miles away.

A Family Gem

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 5 (with 3 kids under 14) where looking for a quick Easter weekend get away where we could relax and recharge. What we found in the Arctic Cottage was simply and exactly what we were looking for. This cottage reminded me of many we rented growing up on the CT shore - cottages that were cozy, clean, and perfectly accented but did not stray from the older charm that makes summer cottages so appealing. This is not a cottage where the owners tried hard to meet the demands of a high maintenance renter but rather, does a perfect job melting old school cottage with newer amenities.

In full transparency the cottage has its quirks such as an extremely narrow and steep staircase, 4 very small bedrooms, and walls between the bedrooms that only go 3/4 of the way to the ceiling however, we found these to be charming and suited the cottage perfectly. Aside from those quirks, the cottage was exceptionally clean, nice floor plan that easily flowed for my family, a fantastic deck off the kitchen for morning coffee, and had all amenities you would need and some that you don't need but are there.

Our intention is always to spend as much time outside of the cottage and the location cannot be any better. The fact this cottage was on the water and showcased the most spectacular sunsets was an amazing bonus! My wife and I sat in the lounge chairs each evening watching the sunset while the kids played right in front of us, absolutely perfect! If you are an early riser, the walk East out of the cottage around the tip of the Island is quick and easy for the more spectacular sunrises. I've never been in a place where you get both which is one of the highlights of this cottage and its location. The cottage is literally on the tip of the Island, you cannot get any further.

My family and I will return to this cottage as it has everything we were looking for and surprised us with intangibles that we never expected. Plum Island is a perfect area for a vacation, long or short, and the Arctic Cottage is a great place to spend your time.

A quaint property

  • 4 of 5

As there were seven of us, this property was great. The downside though was that there was only one bathroom/toilet. The sea side location would be perfect for families in the summer. The owner was very accommodating and friendly
