our second home
We love Plover Cottage. The owners are friendly and helpful and the house is always in great condition and very well cared for. It is very well equipped, small enough to be easy to care for day to day, and in a great location. Neighbors are friendly. This is house is particularly great with young children (if they can manage the spiral staircase to the upstairs bedrooms) because it's a one-minute walk on a quiet side road to get to the beach. Our kids have grown up coming here and we love it.
Loved the location, but...
Plum Island is a beautiful area. The location was very nice, close to the beach, great neighborhood, good amount of space and a comfortable layout. There were, however, a lot of troublesome deferred maintenance items. There was a dead rat odor inside the heater vent when we arrived, in addition to cat urine odor. We had to buy Glade Plug-ins, Febreeze and candles to mask the odor. All the AC units except the one in the living room, were very noisy, and made it difficult to sleep at night. The bathroom vent was also very loud. The mattress on the full size bed upstairs was larger than the box spring and frame, which made it uncomfortable to sleep in. When we tried to fix the bed we unfortunately looked under it and found pills, a major safety hazard if we had very small children, in addition to trash, dust and dirt. There were cracked tiles in the bathroom and the side foyer, another safety hazard if you are walking barefoot. Putting rugs over the cracked tiles is lousy mitigation. The back deck was also a safety hazard with all the loose boards and the fact that it was unstable. Overall, there are a lot of items that need to be taken care of so they don't dampen other people's vacations.
Plover Cottage appreciates the feedback. Obviously we are sorry you had a disappointing experience.
In response, we have made corrections to the items this guest listed, in advance of the 2018 season.
Thanks for giving us the chance to improve the experience for future guests.

Perfect location! Comfortable cottage with all needed amenities!
This was our 9th year staying at Plover Cottage....and it was perfect as always. Bill and Deb are so pleasant and accommodating. The cottage is well-equipped and so comfortable. It feels like a second home to us now! It's just steps away from one of the most beautiful beaches in Massachusetts! We are already looking forward to next year
This is truth in advertising.
This little cottage is terrific. It is clean, well-maintained and the location is perfect. The loft area is great for older kids! My teenager loved it. It was private for her and for me as I was downstairs in an extension of the original cottage. The neighbors were also hospitable. We go to PI every year and rent a different house. This could quite possibly be the first one to which we return for a second stay.
Other Activities: On Plum Island - steps to beach, minutes to Newburyport shops and restaurants.
