Overview

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1.25 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

Take in the stunning panoramic views of the Straight of Georgia and the snow-capped North Shore Mountains from our beautiful, rustic oceanfront cottage. Enjoy drinks and meals on the deck while you watch the spectacular sunsets and, after dark, the lights of Vancouver. Then wake up to gorgeous sunrises over the mountains or star gaze at night through the large skylight in the second floor master bedroom.

Watch birds, deer, otters, seals and bald eagles while you sip your morning cup of coffee from the sandstone beach, the wrap-around deck, or one of the two main bedrooms. You might even see a pod of orcas passing by, or sea lions frolicking in the ocean right in front of the house.

The Hot Tub is nestled into the natural landscape just off of the beach, overlooking the ocean. Savour the gorgeous night time views of the stars and the lights of Vancouver. In the summer, watch the sunrise and sunset. In the winter, listen to the sound of crashing waves on the beach as all of your cares melts away.

The house is tastefully decorated and equipped with all the basics you may need. Both the Master bedroom and second bedroom overlook the ocean and mountains. The Master bedroom has a larger than king size bed and a large skylight for star-gazing at night. The second bedroom has a queen size bed. Each of the other two bedrooms have sleeping lofts and two twin beds.

The property is just 10 minutes by car from the ferry. It's a nice walk down a country road or just minutes away from stores, restaurants, the golf club and the pub, by car or bike. It sits on about 7 private wooded acres and 300 feet of low bank, sandstone waterfront. There are extensive lawns for lounging or playing games as well as a large pond where you may see wood, harlequin, mallard or other ducks.

In the cooler months, snuggle by the fire with a good book, enjoy our great selection of board games or our wonderful and diverse collection of DVD's.

About The Owner

We fell in love with Galiano Island about 25 years ago, and have been both full-time residents and 'weekenders'. We currently live in Vancouver and hope to return to Galiano full time one day.

The Owner purchased this house in 1996

Why The Owner chose The Islands

As past full-time residents, we knew exactly what we were looking for in a Galiano home. This property has it all: 300 feet of beachfront, 7 acres of private forest, gorgeous sunrises and sunsets in the summer, a wrap-around deck, lots of windows, wood stove, hot tub...

What makes this house unique

With it's Northern view of the Coast Mountains the property enjoys both beautiful sunrises and sunsets across the SAlish Sea in the summer months.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Fabulous few days break - we have been so relaxed here. Loved the house, tides and beaches. Have plans to return!

Thanks

We should have left this comment sooner...we stayed here for a week in the summer of 2005. What a wonderful time!! We still talk about how beautiful it was. Keep an eye out for the eagle!!

Beautiful relaxing with everything you need

  • 5 of 5

This is a sweet cottage with great amenities - a hot tub overlooking the ocean, hammock, big family table on the deck, tons of music and dads. I lucked out and got the owls nest bedroom! Thanks Joanne and Geoff for sharing your home with us.

Our family of eight thoroughly enjoyed our stay - the house and grounds were just perfect for our needs - adults and children alike.

Many thanks.

Beautiful, gorgeous setting.

  • 5 of 5

Although the cottage was a bit more rustic then we were expecting, it was well appointed, very comfortable and very private. The sunrises and sunsets were breathtaking, the sound of the waves soothing, all in all a wonderful place to escape to. Four nights was too short here, we could have easily stayed for weeks. Since we are considering purchasing waterfront on Galiano, we appreciate how much time and effort it would take to maintain a place such as this and are very grateful we got to enjoy it without having to be the ones responsible for the upkeep. My only complaint would be that for someone with a bad back, none of the mattresses had enough support to offer a good nights sleep. Next time I will be prepared, we will be back. THANK YOU!!

Stink and mold with a view

  • 2 of 5

I am only giving this property two stars because of the great location right on the water with great views and close to town. I was expecting a rustic rental, but rustic doesn't have to mean filthy and filled with dead bugs. This house needs a good scrubbing to say the least. The bathroom was full of mold and dirt upon arrival. My sheets stunk of mold and it soon became apparent why. A repair man arrived to say the dryer was broken and the service ladies complained they couldn't dry the sheets and towels. The light in my room was broken (the only light in the room) and the property manager didn't seem concerned at all about fixing it. Loved getting dressed and undressed in the dark! The kitchen was full of spiders, ants, cobwebs, and crusty food and crumbs. The ceiling was full of grease because there isn't an exhaust fan over the stove. There was a leftover pot of coffee in the coffeemaker that was filled with fruit flies when we arrived. I understand we were in the woods and some bugs are expected, but mounds of dead bugs and multitudes of live ants are unacceptable. The slider door to the deck was completely broken and I was unable to open it to enjoy the fresh air. The house itself reeked. It was difficult to stay inside. In fact, we had to go to a hotel one night and were desperate to leave early, but there weren't any vacancies. Save yourself the money and just go camping it will be more enjoyable.
