Overview

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1.25 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

Take in the stunning panoramic views of the Straight of Georgia and the snow-capped North Shore Mountains from our beautiful, rustic oceanfront cottage. Enjoy drinks and meals on the deck while you watch the spectacular sunsets and, after dark, the lights of Vancouver. Then wake up to gorgeous sunrises over the mountains or star gaze at night through the large skylight in the second floor master bedroom.

Watch birds, deer, otters, seals and bald eagles while you sip your morning cup of coffee from the sandstone beach, the wrap-around deck, or one of the two main bedrooms. You might even see a pod of orcas passing by, or sea lions frolicking in the ocean right in front of the house.

The Hot Tub is nestled into the natural landscape just off of the beach, overlooking the ocean. Savour the gorgeous night time views of the stars and the lights of Vancouver. In the summer, watch the sunrise and sunset. In the winter, listen to the sound of crashing waves on the beach as all of your cares melts away.

The house is tastefully decorated and equipped with all the basics you may need. Both the Master bedroom and second bedroom overlook the ocean and mountains. The Master bedroom has a larger than king size bed and a large skylight for star-gazing at night. The second bedroom has a queen size bed. Each of the other two bedrooms have sleeping lofts and two twin beds.

The property is just 10 minutes by car from the ferry. It's a nice walk down a country road or just minutes away from stores, restaurants, the golf club and the pub, by car or bike. It sits on about 7 private wooded acres and 300 feet of low bank, sandstone waterfront. There are extensive lawns for lounging or playing games as well as a large pond where you may see wood, harlequin, mallard or other ducks.

In the cooler months, snuggle by the fire with a good book, enjoy our great selection of board games or our wonderful and diverse collection of DVD's.

About The Owner

We fell in love with Galiano Island about 25 years ago, and have been both full-time residents and 'weekenders'. We currently live in Vancouver and hope to return to Galiano full time one day.

The Owner purchased this house in 1996

Why The Owner chose The Islands

As past full-time residents, we knew exactly what we were looking for in a Galiano home. This property has it all: 300 feet of beachfront, 7 acres of private forest, gorgeous sunrises and sunsets in the summer, a wrap-around deck, lots of windows, wood stove, hot tub...

What makes this house unique

With it's Northern view of the Coast Mountains the property enjoys both beautiful sunrises and sunsets across the SAlish Sea in the summer months.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Fabulous few days break - we have been so relaxed here. Loved the house, tides and beaches. Have plans to return!

Thanks

Joanne's property was absolutely incredible. The house is beautiful and cozy and the views were to die for. Joanne has thought of everything and she was extremely responsive. We will definitely be back again and again!

We should have left this comment sooner...we stayed here for a week in the summer of 2005. What a wonderful time!! We still talk about how beautiful it was. Keep an eye out for the eagle!!

Location, location, location!!!

  • 4 of 5

We loved Two Penguins! Sitting on the deck and in the hot tub, playing in the yard or exploring the beach from this idyllic location was a treat for everyone, young and old. This is a great property for relaxing or exploring, whichever you prefer. We loved falling asleep to the sound of the crashing waves below.

As mentioned in other reviews, apart from the two spectacular main bedrooms the accommodations are rustic but cosy. However, that did not impact our stay in a negative way at all. Our only minor quibble would be that we would have liked a bit more space to store our food as we brought a lot for 8 people over 7 days which resulted in some cluttered counter tops, but this was obviously a minor issue.

In short, this was a perfect spot for our two families of four. We hope to return soon! Thanks, Joanne!

Peaceful place

  • 4 of 5

Lovely, rustic spot on the ocean! We enjoyed the sound of the waves from the bedrooms and the amazing views. The only negative was the 6 mm poly covering the skylight in the master bedroom preventing us from enjoying the stars at night. The hot tub was wonderful, but the cover was ripped and so waterlogged that it was very difficult to manage - fortunately for the next guests, a new cover was delivered on our last day. We enjoyed the sandstone rocks, tidal pools and chilling on the deck. The kitchen was well equipped and there is a great library of books and DVDs. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on your perspective) the WiFi was very strong. If you are there off-season and mid-week like we were, be warned that of the few restaurants on the island, most are not open for dinner. However, we did have a fantastic dinner at Pilgrimme and enjoyed lunch on patio at the Crane and Robin. The Hummingbird Pub had the best hours, but the food was awful! Contact info. on the Home Away app was out of date, but once we reached Seonid (sp?)she was very helpful.

Owner's Response: Hi Christine, I'm glad you enjoyed your stay and had a chance to relax on the beach and deck. You are very fortunate to have gotten a reservation at Pilgrimme since they are usually booked months in advance ever since their review as one of the 10 best restaurants in North America in the New York Times. I'm so sorry for the issues with the hot tub cover and skylight. We are awaiting a repair of a leak in the skylight which has been delayed because of health issues with our builder, and the wrong size hot tub cover was sent my the manufacturer, holding up the delivery of the new one. Both issues are in the process of being resolved. Cheers, Joanne

Great Getaway

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful place to get away and relax. It is a very private location with a beautiful view. The house itself is a bit more rustic than you would expect from the posted pictures (much of the flooring is painted plywood, the deck and house exterior are quite weathered) but that didn't detract from our enjoyment staying there.

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed your stay Richard. Yes, I believe "rustic" is in our description. Nature is the star here. I hope you can come back to get away again some day. ;)
