Ken Gray purchased this cottage in 2000

Why Ken Gray chose Mid-Coast & Islands

The cottage is clean and updated with the newest furnishings as they are required. It is located on a quiet section of the lake with clean swimming area.

What makes this cottage unique

We do supply a 2 person kayak and a 16 foot Old Town Canoe for your use while you are at the lake. The paddles and life jackets are also at the cottage. You should bring children life jackets since they vary depending on age. You can paddle down the pond and go into the Pemaquid River to the south. You can paddle back to the North and go into Pemaquid Lake which is a 6 mile lake.

Comfortable quiet cottage in the woods by the pond (Lake)

  • 5 of 5

My son, his wife, their 9 month old daughter, my daughter, her husband, their 6 month old daughter, my husband and I rented this cottage for a week to be able to spend time together and to visit with other relatives in Maine. The cottage was comfortable, cozy and provided us with a great spot to come back to each night. We ate out quite a bit but when we did cook we found dishes and cookware to meet our needs. My only drawback was the rental ad said wheelchair accessible and there were steps into the cottage. Ken the owner did tell me this before we rented and I was able to bring ramps and handrails for the bathroom to accommodate my husband who is in a wheelchair. Thanks for a great week and some wonderful memories. We are building our own cottage in Maine otherwise I would already be booking for next year!

Chalet in Bristol, Maine

  • 5 of 5

My son and I rented the chalet from Mr Gray a couple of times and intend to rent again this summer too. The chalet is absolutely beautiful, spacious, great location. Access to the lake could be improved especially for older people. Also having to get rid of your own trash is a bit inconvenient. Other than that, really enjoyed the chalet and Mr Gray is a great owner open to resolving any issues or concerns.

Wonderful vacation house

  • 5 of 5

I'm very late in submitting this review but I was reminded recently to do so because my kids still talk about going back again next summer. Ken was very responsive to my questions before we arrived and while we were there. The house is quite spacious-there were 4 adults and three kids there for most of the week. The deck is huge and was great to eat on or just hang out on with lovely views high above the pond. The pond itself was very clean, quiet and warm and we took full advantage of the kayak and canoe that were there and went out every day on them. My son also loved fishing off the dock. As other people mentioned it is a steep walk down to the pond from the house so it may not be suitable for older people.

The lovely town of Damariscotta was only 10 minutes away with great shopping and restaurants. We had great meals at King Eider's Pub twice. We also visited Boothbay Harbor that was very picturesque with good shopping and restaurants. I highly recommend the boat trip from the Harbor out to Monhegan Island which we all agreed was the highlight of the week. We went for a leisurely but long hike and after had some well deserved beers at the Monhegan brewery. Along the way we saw seals and some spectacular scenery.

We also visited Pemaquid Beach twice which was beautiful and the water was actually not too cold to swim in ! And the lighthouse and park were also great to visit.

I would say that if given the choice I would be willing to pay a little extra to leave the garbage at the house. We were able to put the trash bags in our kayak on the roof of our car and bring it to the trash collection area but if you only had a car this could prove a bit challenging if you waited until the end of the week. It is a good 25 minute drive to the trash drop off point and while you're on vacation it's not something you want to be doing every couple of days. That however was only a small issue and would not deter us from returning to house again.

Owner's Response: Mike, I am glad you enjoyed your stay at the Lakefront Cottage. The new stairs down to the waterfront does present a challenge to older couples and I do try to mention the stairs when folks request information on the home. When you arrive at the water in is very pleasant with limited boat activity and the 2 person kayak and canoe do allow opportunity to explore the lake & Pemaquid River.

Cute cottage with stunning view.

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here for the fall foliage in late September. This is a great location for us and the areas we wanted to visit. The cottage was clean and comfortable. Great kitchen since we bought back lobsters/seafood to cook. The only thing that was misleading is that you must clean the linens before you check out and also drive your trash to the dumpster that was 15 mins away. I figured that is what the cleaning fee would include that but it doesn't. Otherwise we had a great time! Thank you!

Fantastic location and friendly, responsive owner

  • 5 of 5

Months before I arrived at the cottage, I was really pleased with how responsive Ken was to all my emails and questions. He gladly sent additional photos to me and always responded very quickly to emails.

There are two cottages that are identical, but they are far away enough from each other that they're still very private. I'm really picky about this and I was very happy with how secluded the cottage felt!

I really enjoyed how surrounded by trees and high above the pond the cottage was — it made me feel like I was up in a treehouse. You can enjoy the glimmering lake while sitting on the deck and never be too hot because there's always a great breeze and abundant shade. The property is beautiful and the pond is perfect for swimming. It was also very quiet with hardly any motor boats when we were there. It was great that a two person kayak and canoe were included, since bringing your own down to the dock would be very difficult.

The cottage is in a very private and quiet location (dead end gravel fire road) but still within ten minutes of markets and main roads. The location is phenomenal because of its proximity to the ocean and lots of great restaurants and places to explore. Some recommendations:

Savage Oakes Winery - great blueberry wines!

Sweetgrass Winery + Distillery - great selection of fruit wines (peach, blueberry, and rhubarb port wines) and incredible view. Great area to drive around and photograph.

Rising Tide Co-Op - great for people who like organic and vegan options (they also have awesome freshly baked muffins!)

Anchor Inn Restaurant - great grilled seafood and ocean view, plus it's only 15 minutes from the cottage!

Primo Restaurant - Worth the drive and it might be the best meal you've ever had. It's definitely a special occasion restaurant because it's not cheap, but it's the ultimate farm to table dining experience there is. They won James Beard Award for best restaurant in New England... can't beat that!

Thank you Ken and Becca for sharing your cottage with us!
