About Vanessa McBride

It's no wonder that I am drawn to travel having lived in 3 different countries (U.S., Japan and Australia) all before the age of 14. I attended the University of Texas, the University of Western Australia and the California School of Professional Psychology before traveling to New York, and Los Angeles to advance my professional career. Now I have come full circle and call the Bay Area (San Francisco/Marin) my home. I am a single mom to a 6-year old little boy who is the light of my life and we are so excited to host you in our desert retreat!

Why Vanessa McBride chose Joshua Tree

I spent 6 years managing the rentals for a beach cottage located in Bolinas, CA both on VRBO & Airbnb. The first time I visited Joshua Tree, I found a place where I felt at home and my heart was healed in that amazing desert. I knew I wanted to be a part of the JT community and buy a place that I could share with friends, family and the world. The Post Modern is the result of luck, chance and perseverance. It is a peaceful & magical little retreat where you can create your own memories that will last a lifetime.

What makes this house unique

The first time I visited this property, I realized that it is elevated on a mesa that provides not only an incredible view of the San Bernadino mountain range, but also Goat Mountain to the NW. An added bonus is that it is not subject to any flash flooding due to its elevation--a common occurrence in JT during monsoon season! The bedrooms are located at opposite ends of the home, a perfect solution for finding solitude despite the noise of kids, in laws or friends traveling with you!

Stylish, new and comfortable mid-century modern home with beautiful sunset views of Joshua Tree Park

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four fit comfortably in the Post Modern Retreat. There was plenty of room even for two teen boys. The kitchen and BBQ are a dream and we loved sitting on the deck watching the sunset. The home is furnished so beautifully - just like the photos! It was actually great for our family to unplug without a TV and laptops and play bocce in the backyard or cards after dinner. The home is located conveniently to downtown Joshua Tree (which has some great restaurants) and the entrance to the Park. Vanessa was a marvelous host - very responsive, kind and hospitable. We would definitely return!

Quiet, beautiful home in Joshua Tree

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our three days here. The house is impeccably designed, the beds are super comfortable, and there are lots of lovely touches and luxuries. The bathroom was divine. 4 stars only because we couldn't get the wood-fire-heated hot tub to get hot enough, after three tries and lots of effort. Internet worked fine for us. We brought our own monitor and connected our computer to watch Netflix. There's a wonderful Bose bluetooth speaker that we made good use of. The coffee grinder is hand-cranked, which is cool, but we drink a lot of coffee and it became tiring after a while. Guests should bring ground coffee if they drink a lot.

Overall a very restful and enjoyable time in a beautiful home and we're grateful for the space to retreat.

Stylish Desert Sanctuary

  • 5 of 5

What a gem. My husband and I headed to JT to celebrate our 17th wedding anniversary and had the incredibly good fortune to find this unique, beautifully appointed (photos don't do it justice) desert hideaway. INSIDE the spacious bedrooms and living areas were both beautiful and functional--we appreciated both the functional layout and the lovingly curated mid-century mod furniture. OUTSIDE is setup to maximize lounging opportunities with lots of comfortable seating options allowing you to soak in the all the beauty, wide open spaces, dazzling sunsets and stargazing opportunities that make this area so profoundly special.

The owner was very responsive, kind and graciously accommodated some scheduling challenges that happened on our end.

Hope to return to this special place in years to come.

Other than flying into Palm Springs, you can fly into Las Vegas, Los Angeles or San Diego and drive around 3 hours to get to Joshua Tree (called JT by locals). Other than the National Park and a few of the nearby places of interest I mentioned in my listing description, JT is home to the Institute of Mental Physics Spiritual Center and the World Famous Crochet Museum. In the nearby town of Landers, a visit to the Integratron and the Giant Rock is a MUST! I also recommend hitting the Sky Drive-In Movie theatre in Yucca Valley and Pappie & Harriets in Pioneertown for BBQ & live music.
