Two Story Cabin located in the heart of the Appalchian Mountains.
This Cabin is within 1/2 mile of the Streets Gap access to the Appalachian Trail and 2 miles to the Wolf Laurel Ski Resort. The elevation is nearly 4000 ft. so it is nice and cool in the summer months and has the possibility for snow on any day throughout winter. The cabin is two story with spacious decks on the front and second floor of the back. You can enjoy watching the water fall in the trout pond in front while you sip your morning coffee, or relax on the back deck to the sounds of a small stream that meanders through the Laurels. There is a wood burning stove (plenty of fire wood for a camp fire outside, or the stove inside).
You will be within 40 minutes of Asheville, NC which offers some of the best Microbrew beer anywhere and great music and food.
If skiing is your thing you are within 2 miles of the Wolf Laurel Ski resort. There are also two snow tubing facilities within 5 and 10 minute drives.

About James Holt
My name is James Holt and I have owned this property since 2001. I lived in the small grey house next to this VRBO rental for several years until recently moving to Hendersonville, NC. I grew up in North Alabama, but have lived in the Western North Carolina since 1993. I have two adult children. We have truly enjoyed this property with all the beauty it has to offer. We hope you will also.
James Holt purchased this Cabin in 2001
Why James Holt chose Mars Hill
As I traveled through the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina as a territory manager for an industrial supplier I fell in love with the beauty of Madison County, NC. I was fortunate to find the property in 2001.
What makes this Cabin unique
This property is unique in that it is very quiet. When you sit on the front porch during the day you can hear the waterfall in the pond, watch the trout, and enjoy all the wildlife of the area. You may see wild turkey, deer, many birds, and possible even a bear. At night the skyline is absolutely stunning as there very few house or street lights in the area. The stars are magnificent.

It was great for my purposes
The cabin is clean and cozy. It has plenty of seating and lots of selections on the tv. A few heads up. The shower (plenty of hot water) is small. I'm 5'2 110lbs. The kitchen (as advertised) has a coffee maker, microwave, hot plate, and a George Foreman grill. I wouldn't plan on trying to prepare big meals. There are some really good restaurants just a few exits away and a cafe very close by.
I thoroughly enjoyed sitting out on the back deck in the evenings listening to the creek and looking at the stars. Overall is was well appointed.
Weekend away at Into the Grey
Overall had an excellent stay at this property! James was excellent at communication (both over the phone and through notes left around the cabin for troubleshooting) and was an overall great host from afar. The property was easy to find and easier to navigate. The AT section nearby was a wonderful experience made all the better by the recent snowfall. While a few of the lights didn't appear to work inside the cabin (the back porch/balcony) I felt comfortable, safe, and well provided for throughout my entire stay. Would definitely recommend to others and would certainly love to return.
Very quiet and peaceful. Loved the wood stove upstairs and the small creek in back. Beautiful section of the AT close by. Marshall and Asheville are great day trips. I would highly recommend this cabin, and we look forward to returning.
Amazing, thanks y’all!
This was a great little area for a get away. We both had so much fun. Close to mountains and the ski resort. Everything was provided. Y’all did an amazing job and we cannot wait to come back!
Hunter and his group were excellent guest and left the cabin in excellent condition. Hunter is welcome back anytime. Thank you, James
