Ski, Snowmobile, Mountain Bike getaway - close to Michigan Tech and Finlandia U.

Bedrooms 2
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 3 nights

About the property

Lovely 2 bedroom (queen beds) home. Living room has pull-out queen sofa of high quality (extra-long and extra deep mattress). Fully equipped kitchen, washer and dryer, 1 bathroom (tub, shower), living room, piano room/office, and family room overlooking the cross country ski trails and mountain bike trails in Swedetown. Two car garage. Wifi. No cable TV, but there is Netflix, etc. We are less than 1/8 mile from the main snowmobile trail. Less than 1 mile from the historic Village of Calumet that has restaurants and a very nice grocery store along with a premier bicycle/ski shop (Cross Country Sports). There are 4 golf courses nearby. Numerous beaches within 20 minutes on Lake Superior or Portage or Torch Lake. We are about a 40 minute drive from Mount Bohemia for snowboarding and downhill skiing. About 20 minutes from Michigan Tech University and Finlandia University. Golfing is nearby. The CMX airport (served by United) is only 10 miles away and a quick drive. We live about 25 minutes from this property. We pride ourselves in offering you an immaculate home for your vacation use. This home has been our family home and we have decided to rent it out to those who will care for it in the way that we have.

You can ski or bicycle right out the door to the Swedetown Ski Chalet to get on many miles of trails, including the snowmobile trails. We have a gas grill on the deck for your use (when weather permits), a large backyard that is very private where you can enjoy the deer and rabbits that come to visit our apple trees.

We do not have a fire ring in the yard as we are in a residential neighborhood (sparsely populated but a few homes nearby). We border thousands acres of township ski and bike trails and do not want to jeopardize that land with a random spark. As we are close to Lake Superior beaches on both sides of the Keweenaw peninsula, we provide campfire wood should you wish to head to the beach for a bonfire.

We know that some travelers have pets and we respectfully decline renting the home to those with pets as we are attempting to keep the home allergy free for those allergic to dogs, cats, etc.

About Jill Hodges

My husband Bill and I are offering our home for vacation rentals, which was my family home built by my father and friends in 1967. Bill is a retired surveyor and I am a semi-retired university administrator. We opted to rent out this home as we are now living about 25 minutes away at our soon to be retirement home. (The crazy photo is of us and our grandson).

What makes this house unique

The Keweenaw Peninsula, where this home is located, is central to fantastic fishing, biking, fishing, snowmobiling, cross country and downhill skiing, snowboarding, golfing, beaches, berries and all things unique to this lovely area.

Perfect quiet get-away

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Jill for such a great place to stay for vacation. The house has lots of space, everything you need, including the use of the garage. The neighborhood is very quiet and right next to a beautiful network of hiking & ski trails. Close to downtown Calumet and just a short drive to Hancock/Houghton. And Jill is a great hostess, providing any information you need on the area for food or entertainment. We would definitely stay there again.

This home met our every need!!

  • 5 of 5

We're familiar with the area and knew we wanted something convenient for snowmobiling! This was it! Right off the trail and close to a lot of amenities such as shopping, groceries, restaurants, gas station and bars! It was definitely nice to have the garage to park the vehicle in while the snows came down. Check in and check out was simple and the treats in the fridge were delicious. It was also nice that the location was in a nice secluded area. Accommodations were homey and we loved the decor. WIFI was a plus for sure! If the situation arises, we'd definitely stay again. Thanks Bill and Jill for everything.

Owner's Response: The properties nearness to the snowmobile trail is certainly a plus. We’ve enjoyed watching the groomers for both the snowmobile trails and the x-country ski trails from the kitchen table. A true ski in, ski out, and sled in, sled out location, yet incredibly private. The care in which you vacated the property was greatly appreciated. Bill/Jill

Owner's Response: We thoroughly enjoyed your stay in our home. You mentioned that it was great for the cross country skiing as the chalet was just out the back door to the home. We have enjoyed that also! We also enjoyed the high rating of how many lamps we had in the home for reading, as well as our well stocked library. Again, things that we also find important when we stay in vacation homes. We hope you stay with us again! jill and bill
