About Jacki Hunlow
We love to travel and explore places but the best part is the people we meet and get to know. That is why we thought that having a short term rental would fit our personalities, we just like people. I have done design work for builders in the area, so this build out project was so much fun. Originally we built the suite for our moms- who each lived with us over time. Then we leaned about this industry and already had the space so in early 2017 we just added the separate entrance, the deck and refurnished it. It has been a great experience this last year. Rick and I are both from New Mexico and met in Albuquerque but fell in love with the northwest later in life. I am an artist doing oil portraits and bronze work. Rick is a cost analyst for a Semi-conductor company and works downtown in the "Big Pink".. that's what they call the biggest skyscraper.. lol.. We have a nonprofit: The Mothers Legacy Project: and work very hard with it. Additionally, the joy of our lives our our 9 children, 17 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. It's always someone's birthday!
Jacki Hunlow purchased this Guest House in 2001
Why Jacki Hunlow chose West Haven-Sylvan
The West Hills is a prime location for all of Portland. It's only 10 minutes from downtown, 30 mins. to the airport, an hour to the coast or to Mt. Hood. Yet you are in a quiet residential area away from the noise. Early in the morning or late evenings, it’s not unusual to see: deer, coyotes, raccoons, and squirrels walking in the neighborhood. Directly across the street in the Fall, blackberries are ripe for the picking.
What makes this Guest House unique
We have worked hard to create a one- of- a- kind space with original art work, antiques from the Northwest and colors that are appealing. We love the Northwest and want to help our guest discover it's beauty. The furnishing we all chosen for comfort and quality. Our guest book has lots of ideas and suggestions of what to do. Then you add our location, not only is it beautiful and quiet but we are 4 mins. driving time to St. Vincent's hospital, about a 15 mins. walk. Nike World Headquarters is a 10 min. drive. Intel World Headquarters is a 15 min. drive. Adidas headquarters is about 20 mins. away. Yet you can still be in the middle of the trees and hundreds of miles of walking trails within 15 mins too, the Rose Garden, the Japanese Garden, the Zoo to name a few. It is a unique place.

Clean, quiet, comfortable, convenient
Lovely bedroom and living room with ample space for the two of us. The kitchen was small but very useful and we took advantage of the coffee maker, toaster, and refrigerator. We took regular day trips and found the public transportation terrific. The train station was just a mile away and we found it easy and convenient. In addition, there is a little store just down the road that was an easy walk and they had a small restaurant and also sold food and beverages. Our favorite was the small deck under the redwood tree that we enjoyed for our breakfast and evening drink. The owners were very helpful and accommodating and provided all sorts of information on things to do in the area. I would highly recommend staying in this apartment if you are visiting Portland or the surrounding area.
Beautiful, quiet, private space! And fresh raspberry picks from the luscious garden!
We had such a great time staying here. It truly is a hidden oasis. Everything we needed for a long weekend! And lots of ideas/suggestions for fun to-dos on our trip. Truly lovely people & home!
Gorgeous property, fabulous hosts!
Very comfortable, beautiful spot. Easy access to local shops and restaurants and an easy Uber ride to downtown. The hosts had great information and were just wonderful people. Highly recommend.
Was everything promised and more!
Jacki & Rick were so kind. The property is absolutely beautiful and completely immaculate! As daughter is now attending the university there, this will be our go to spot! Thank you so much, Jacki and Rick! You made us feel so welcome!
LeAnn and Rick,
It was such a pleasure to have met you and have you stay with us. You were awesome guests and we hope to get to see you again. You have a busy few weeks ahead of you!!!
Rick and Jacki
Absolutely Lovely! The hosts thought of every detail for their guests to have an enjoyable stay.
My husband and I came into Portland with our 2 daughters for a Wedding and we had a couple extra days to explore Portland. The hosts were so kind and helpful. They had brochures and information handy for all the tourist spots. Their place was impeccably clean and comfortable for the 4 of us. The coffee and chocolates were an added bonus! We recommend this host and we will stay there again next time we go to Portland.
Awesome Place, More Awesome Hosts!
Staying here was unbelievably nice. The owners, Jacki and Rick could not have been more accommodating. They answered e-mails so so promptly and were attentive to anything we needed. We also got delayed in our flight by over 4 hours and they met us to show us the ropes late at night and recommended a great dinner spot that was still open. They also gave us wonderful sightseeing tips only a local could provide. They truly made our stay in Portland wonderful and their place is just like being at home!
Our redwood (Sequoia) tree is over 90' feet tall and over 90 years old. The deck is built 9-10' feet up into the tree trunk. The tree's canopy overhead is captivating and calming. You can hear our waterfall from your balcony deck. The inside is very clean and every consideration has been taken to make your trip pleasant and relaxing.
We are about 4 mins. away from Provident St. Vincent hospital, 10 mins. to Nike World Headquarters, about 15 mins. away from Intel's World Headquarters. We live in the beautiful and quiet West Hills area. It is a prime address for Portland because of it's close proximity to everything. A park with tennis courts, swings, baseball field and a stream are just down at the end of the block.
The Trimet system is wonderful. The Line 50 bus has a reduced schedule stop 50 yards from the front door. We live 4 mins. from the Sunset Transit Lite rail and bus central. (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) Trimet for trip planning. Many guests also use Uber.
