About Dan P Caylor
Growing up in southern Florida, I love the coast but was always drawn to the mountains. After attending college in Boone, NC, I was hooked. I decided to stay in Western North Carolina and settled here in Asheville where I spend my time as a whitewater rafting guide and custom woodworker. I love the eclectic, small town vibe, outdoor lifestyle, food scene, and having access to "big city" amenities like our growing art scene and live music opportunities. I'm thrilled to provide a space from which you can access all of this and more. Enjoy your time in my "new" hometown!

Why Dan P Caylor chose Oakley
Life in the rolling hills of Asheville allows for the peace and quiet of country living right here in the middle of the city. I love sitting on the back deck and soaking up the serenity of long range views while knowing I'm only 5-10 minutes away from downtown and the Biltmore Estate. This neighborhood has everything I was looking for with the perfect balance between convenience and solitude. I love to be part of the community but am equally as happy to rest and retreat from the grind. Living here allows for both!
What makes this House unique
The back deck is my favorite place to be. You'll find three free range chickens, and a bee hive in the fenced backyard and you can watch the action from your gated perch. Inside, the house is just big enough to host dinner gatherings but small enough to feel cozy. I love the neighborhood and you really cannot beat the convenience!

Cute and convenient
Cute 1 bedroom. Clean, convenient. Super short drive to Biltmore Village and easy drive to downtown Asheville too. Dan is nice and easy to work with. He messaged to let us know the cleaning crew was done early so we were able to check in early.
Very well kept, all was as described and nice.
Everything Owner stated about this property is as described. Very nice and comfortable stay and owner was available and provided help if we needed it. The property provided a home town feel, and was close to all attractions in Asheville. If we return to Asheville, we would definitely return to this property for another stay. Owner provided us with fresh laid eggs from his hen and the two Beagles that live downstairs helped us to not miss our own dog, which couldn't travel with us.
Great place, close to everything
I stayed for a week and enjoyed every day. The house has plenty of room and is well appointed for both shorter and longer stays. The location is great. It is in a quiet neighborhood allowing for some nice downtime between activities but is only minutes from Biltmore Village and a short drive to downtown. Nothing felt inconvenient or out of the way. Thanks for playing a huge part in a great vacation!
Potential not realized.
This rental looks to us as it must be where the owner lives when it's not rented. Felt strange coming into a house with food in the fridge and supplies in the cabinets.
There is a person that lives in the lower level which we didn't realize when we rented.
The mattress and sheets are worn out (Unless you like rolling to the middle) and had dog hair on it.
The stove, oven, cast iron skillet, grill cover, and the table on the back deck were filthy. (Yes, we know you're don't wash cast iron...but wipe it clean and clean it with salt!)
I missed the details in the instructions received the morning we were arriving that there was a person living in the lower level and that we needed to share the off street parking. For that I apologize to the person in the lower level. We had no problem with him, just surprised that we were sharing the house. We have never experienced that before and, honestly, don't really like it!
We also forgot to return two small tables to their original place in the home and we apologize for that.
This is a nice little home that could be a great rental......but it wasn't for us!
Sorry you felt that way Kurt. From the get go you were a pain. Stated in the welcoming email and on the listing it says there is a downstairs tenent. I explained to you that it’s the law here in Asheville city limits that a full resident must be on property. That’s just the way it is and any house here inside city limits is the same way.
As far as your other complaints...I’ve never had anyone state the things you have. Yes, the outside glass table was dirty and that’s because it’s outside on a deck and it had rained and is under a tree. Also, of course the grill cover is dirty, it’s a grill cover and it’s on a back porch. The grill cover is to keep the grill clean from the weather. And the cast iron skillet does have a thin film of oil on it because that’s how I store it to keep it from rusting.
Guests I’ve had in the past have never had the compliants that you have so I’m not sure what the issue was. Feels like you are just nit picking. Maybe you’re more suited to staying in a hotel?
My entire house was rearranged when I got home(coffee table, end table, kitchen table, bathroom etc). Hotels it’s fine to do that but not someone else’s residence. When someone rents you their home you should treat it with respect. Paying what you did to stay in the middle of Asheville is a steal. Instead you came in a demanded that you should be treated as a king. You should have read the info I sent you in the first place and none of this would have been a issue. Lesson learned on both our parts I guess....
Beautiful home away from home
The home was a great get away for our short little trip to Ashville. I would definitely stay again
This cottage was clean and neat and close to all that Asheville had to offer. I would highly recommend you giving this place a chance. We will definitely look forward to staying there again in the future.
Asheville is known for its farm to table food scene, nearly countless breweries, outdoor recreation, and of course the historic Biltmore Estate. Downtown boasts unique, boutique shopping opportunities, historic cobblestone streets, museums, restaurants, a vibrant buskin scene, and tons of history. For the adventure seeker, whitewater rafting, ziplining, mountain biking, hiking, and climbing are minutes away. Want a more leisurely encounter with the outdoors? Paddle boarding, floating, and still water kayaking on the French Broad might be more your style. The River Arts District offers an insiders look into working studios while live music venues offer shows for nearly every genre. Having lived in the area for over a decade, I can happily recommend the best of the best when it comes to tour operators, private guides, activities, hiking trails, restaurants, breweries, and more. Please don't hesitate to ask! I'd love to share a local's perspective with you.
