Why Elizabeth Dupont chose Newport
This property was built in 1870 and is detailed with a variety of hand carved woods and has beautiful architectural style structure. Because it is situated on 4 acres in the south end of town, it is very much a sanctuary but still easily accessible to the local attractions. The decor in the apartment is a mix of antiques, yachting memorabilia and artwork. See REVIEWS on the Hilltopia listing #1063351.
What makes this Apartment unique
It was love at first sight twenty years ago despite the house's dilapidated condition at the time. These past two decades have been spent restoring the property and the grounds as a labor of love with a lot of sweat equity. Hilltop overlooks Almy pond with the ocean in the distance

Nice place to stay
The property was located out of town in a nice residential neighborhood. For the most part you had to drive for all activities and free parking is almost non-existent so a downtown location may be preferable to some. The biggest negative was the lack of water pressure in the apartment shower upstairs. My wife had to clean her hair in the kitchen sink to remove the soap from her hair. There was also a musty odor in the first floor apartment's hallway. A negative to a lesser degree was the basic cable TV service as you received little more than network channels. Sometimes after a whole day out you like to relax to regular TV programming. Lastly the staircase leading to the second floor apartment could be troublesome for some. From the positive side Elizabeth is a very gracious hostess who was kind enough to let us check in early and who provided answers to our Newport related questions. The apartment and the downstairs bedroom were comfortable. For our 3-night stay, other than making coffee, we did not use the nice kitchen which was well stocked for preparing meals. Ditto for the nice dining room. We experienced a few deer sightings near the house which was a highlight.
Upon receiving this 3 star review, I immediately checked the shower pressure to find that the shower head had some particles in the screen and are now removed. As I live on property, I wished I have been notified at once when the problem arose and I would have addressed it. The tiled shower stall and plumbing were installed in May of this year.
It took less than 5 minutes to unscrew the shower head and clean the screen.
The odor from the foyer may have been from the dampness caused by the rainy day which can occur in a stone house built in the late 1800's. I will make sure we operate the de-humidifier during the next rainy day. Once again, I wish I had been notified and it would have been rectified.
Regarding the stairs, here is what I wrote when the inquiry was initially made for 2 senior couples: "I wanted to let you know that there are 2 sets of stairs. One to the first bedroom and another set of stairs up to the apartment. So I am not sure how senior you are? but wanted to mention it. My husband and I are active seniors and have no problem."
His response, "We should have no problem with the stairs. We would like to proceed with the booking."
I am glad that I was helpful in sharing my knowledge of Newport. As the property is located on the south side of town, most of our tenants walk downtown or use Uber or a taxi to avoid parking issues and fees particularly on weekends. The payoff of the location is the quiet setting and the deer sightings on the 4 acres.
Great place !

Private, Lovely and Historic in a Great Location
This was a girl's weekend away in Newport RI and our stay at "Hilltopia" made it just perfect. We stayed for two nights in the 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom carriage house located on the estate. Elizabeth was a great host and recommended some great restaurants and gave us a lay of the land in Newport. We were close to the Mansions and Fabulous restaurants such as Mama Luisa's. We were close to everything and could easily walk to everything. Our location was picturesque and quiet. Very different from being up by the crazy wharf area. Elizabeth did a great job of making everything as homey and comfortable as possible. We would definitely stay there again!!
Great place to experience Newport.
Newport is a beautiful place and staying in Hilltopia so close to the opulent mansions instead of a cookie cutter room was the right way to get the whole experience.
Being so close to beaches the cliff walk and town while having a huge open space to see the sky and the lake was really special.
Our hosts were gracious and informative so that my friends and I got an insight into some great local color. Thank you for sharing your home and Newport with us.
Wonderful location, relaxing vacation
We really enjoyed staying at Hilltopia. Elizabeth was great to work with, and the rooms were perfect for our trip. Easy, short strolls to both the harbour/downtown area and to the Cliff Walk on the ocean side. We would definitely stay here again!
