This is a beautifully maintained 1950s beach cottage that was purchased by the owners’ parents in 1962 and has belonged to their daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Bill, since 1989. It is located on the crest of a dune overlooking the wide Surf City beach and the ocean. A covered deck runs across the front of the house, providing unobstructed views of the beach. The living room and eat-in kitchen open onto the deck. The two bedrooms are on the western side of the house, promoting better late sleeping opportunities. The house has heating and air conditioning and is furnished comfortably to allow you to relax on your vacation. The kitchen is well-stocked with all the implements that you would like to have to cook up the local New Jersey produce and seafood. There is a laundry room with a washer and dryer, a garage with parking for one car (and space for one more car behind the garage) and a charcoal grill, beach chairs and toys for your use. A private dune walk with a sitting area leads from the outdoor shower level to the beach. Six beach badges are provided for your use.
Want a change from the beach? The main street on the island is one block away. There are at least five restaurants of different types serving three meals a day within a few blocks. You can buy just about anything you want at the local 5&10, including books, hermit crabs, and LBI gear. The library is one block farther west. Want to rent a bicycle? One block away. Want to buy more upscale clothing? Close by. Sadly, you will have to get in your car to get top rate bagels at Bagel Eddi’s and sticky buns and all sorts of wonderful bakery items at Ferrara’s , which is only 10 minutes south on the main road. There are local tennis courts within a five minute walk – no charge. Three mini-golf courses are located within three blocks, with slight differences, hotly preferred by various members of a family.
The northern end of the Island had the famous Barnegat Light House that may be climbed. There are even climbs available on full moon nights by special reservation. Deep sea fishing boats leave from this area. Sea kayaks are available to rent by the hour.
I hope that this description whets your appetite for a trip to McAllister House. It is a perfect place to relax, to stay up late to see the star-filled night skies, to sleep lulled by the sound of the waves, and then to wake up early to see the stupendous sunrises.
