About María del Carmen
We did not stop throughout the year, so we come to Armona serves as relaxation therapy, as there is no car to drive, or noise to endure, you can not rush to overwhelm, and it shows the character of its inhabitants. Take this opportunity to explore the island (that's why my children do not have equal), long walks, bird watching and other marine species, catch clams, cockles, octopus and crabs that after going to the casserole (with just how well they know caught), swimming, playing in the sand, reading, original photographs and many more that can not be described in these lines, but they are reduced to and done in ENJOYING SINGLE LIFE with your family (which seems impossible with the current pace of life we often take most of us).
María del Carmen purchased this House in 2012
Why María del Carmen chose Olhão
This property has been acquired because, coincidences that seems to introduce life, were in the area and fell in love with the house, the area and the island. This home allows us to enjoy romantic evenings on the upper deck and make life on the outside, it has a large veranda with tables and barbecue to enjoy a good fish or meat in the company of family or friends. Freedom here we can give them to our children, even small, we can not afford in our city and we want to enjoy a freer environment such as we enjoyed when we were children.
What makes this House unique
This home is located very close to the beach, just a walk, and has a beautiful roof top or from where the sea is contemplated terrace, the river and the lights of Olhão night as small candles vibrating air. As it is not located on the main road, but parallel to it, so quiet as the intimacy are absolute. It has a small garden surrounding the house, so it is not adjacent to other houses, and in the back the bouganvillas trees have become nesting birds and where we've seen more than a chameleon. In winter you can gather around the fireplace having fun with board games or relax in the group with a good read and a nice background music. If you opt for television, besides the satellite channels can be any device with a USB port to enjoy your favorite movies or documentaries.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
A wonderful stay
We fell in love with Olhao last October and dreamt about staying on Armona. The house is comfortable with everything you need ( the kitchen is specially well provided for a good cook), very well located in between the Laguna, the "big" beach as my daughter called it.
Maria was friendly and answered all our queries promptly.
I can only recommend her house.
Just a note though, if you need to work whilst there, there is no internet/wifi in the house.
I wish this island remain a well kept secret, which makes it so charming!
Lovely house, beautiful Island, wonderful holiday
The house was well equipped and simply but tastefully decorated with nice views from the terrace. Lovely to have a fire in the evening.
As good as it looks in the pictures
We had a lovely time in this beautiful house. There is loads of space in the public rooms - a smallish cosy area with two comfy couches, a good sized space with a beautiful big fireplace and a small table and chairs, as well as a huge kitchen area with a big square table and 8 chairs that's great for family meals. And that's all without the outdoor space, with table and chairs, hammock, built-in BBQ, and sunloungers on the roof area that is accessed via cute stairs and a lovely, roomy bedroom. (Higher still, there's a roof top area from where you can see for miles.) The decor is lovely with lots of cute touches and the whole house way more homely than any chain rental. We found the beds really comfy and enjoyed long lies with the window shutters keeping the light out until we wanted to let the day in.
The only negative we can think of is that hanging and drawer space is a wee bit on the tight side. The house is so roomy, though, that there was plenty space for our cases so it wasn't a big problem. Anyway, it's Armona; all you need to pack are a few pairs of shorts, some T shirts and swim wear.
Maria is the perfect host - always responding really quickly to enquiries. Thank you, Maria!
Katie, thank you for your kind and helpful comment.
Since you tell us about the clothes, we will try to find more space to make it more comfortable.
I also thank you for your patience to stay a space of time without water because the water on the island was cut by some repairs, which will no longer happen to other tenants in our house because we have given way to an engine that will raise water from an underground reservoir that we have.
If on another occasion you want to stay at home, you will be welcome.
My wife and I stayed in this three-bedroomed house last September with other members of our family. We liked it so much that we booked it again in March despite the fact that this time only the two of us were coming and we didn't need the extra space. The house has a special artistic flair about it, a charm and grace, that we really love. There is no finer compliment than a return visit: we've been twice in a few months and look forward to returning soon.
Dear John and family.
Thank you very much for your comment. We are very happy that you like our house and that you have repeated your stay, which we also appreciate.
We try every year to make the house more welcoming. Little by little ;)
But we know that what is truly cozy is this charming island.
We would be delighted if you came back and have the doors open when you want.
A cordial greeting,
Lovely spacious house near the sea.
Many thanks Deb and Andy for your kind comment.
A cordial greeting,
Spacious, quite, secluded.
Maria’s house on Armona was wonderful both inside and out. And as the house was not on the front line of the main path literally no-one in 2 weeks passed by front or back, which made for a very quiet and relaxing and secluded holiday. The house is so well stocked you will not be short of anything, cutlery, glasses, cups, pots & pans, towels etc., more than enough of everything essential. Additionally books, cd’s, video discs and lots of games for kids and others. The children’s bedroom is particularly well done and I am sure kids will love sleeping there. Decoration throughout is obviously very personal and well above the normal standard for this type of accommodation. The roof terrace in particular was well used from a cup of tea first thing in the morning to a gin and tonic at sunset and a lot of sunbathing in between. The outside shower was really great for getting all the sand off from the beach before going inside. The house is well positioned, being close to the Atlantic beach and just a little further from the more sheltered beach opposite Culatra island. But closest of all is the central lagoon which is very tidal and at low tide can be little more than a large puddle. But when at or close to high tide is absolutely great especially for kids. If you go round to the far side furthest from the 5 or so houses then on occasion you will find you are the only people there.(although this may not be the case at weekends or peak season). The island itself is one of those places you will love or hate, nothing to do! I love it. There are five restaurants/bars they are all good but nothing exceptional and can be a bit hit and miss. The middle restaurant with the attached supermarket does very good barbecued fish at lunchtime. But our favourite was Carlos at the ferry end, a completely family operation. Any bad points? Well my wife thought the sofas were not very comfortable but I was quite happy with them. And as someone has already mentioned the two kids bikes weren’t great. An addition I think perhaps a teapot for English guests would be good, also although we did not watch TV much it would have been nice to have some instructions on how (if possible) to switch from the German satellite feed to an English one. Very highly recommended.
I thank you for your extensive commentary and the time you have devoted to writing it in such detail, explaining nuances of the house and the island that are useful for all and especially for me, so that I can go replenishing (as much as possible) the things that are missing in the house or have been damaged.
As you say, the situation of the house allows it to be very quiet, and we try to have in the house a little of everything because the stores are far away.
There was a teapot the last time I was there but thank you for informing me about it so I can bring a new one.
We already have replacements for bicycles because, like you, Steve told us (another tenant), but now we can't take them by ferry so we'll try to take them in winter in river taxi.
In relation to the television channels, many stations are taken but you are right: the majority are German. I think it isn't possible to go to the English satellite, but I'll consult with a technician and if it were feasible I would detail how to do it.
I'm glad that your stay has been relaxed, that you have enjoyed the terrace and above all that you love the island, just like me.
Many thanks to you and your family for having chosen us and for providing us with such a useful commentary.
Note: I apologize for my low level of English.
We offer our house in Armona Island so you can enjoy what seems to us a paradise and an oasis of tranquility in the Portuguese Algarve.
With pristine beaches and a relaxed family atmosphere, Armona Island is a unique and beautiful village where to find entertainment on vacation or tranquility even in summer seasons.
There are no motor vehicles on the island, so you can enjoy a silent thank your ears if you are used to living in acoustically contaminated sites.
His extensive beach stretches along the island, which is part of the Natural Reserve of Ria Formosa, so there we found marine species hitherto unknown to us, and we have enjoyed spectacular sunrises and sunsets.
Please visit Olhão market to stock up on fresh produce and quality.
To perform special activities with children and road, also enjoy that we are not so young, there are many amusement and water parks, in the Algarve area, as in Andalusia (southern Spain):
