Walker Mansion has soaring 16 foot ceilings, original hardwood floors with inlay, gorgeous chandeliers, intricate wainscoting and crown molding. The architectural details are stunning.

Common Spaces:

> The Master Kitchen has marble counter tops and top of the line appliances. You can cook a gourmet meal or pop a frozen pizza in the oven.

> The Courtyard located outside of the Master Kitchen is a great place to smoke a cigar and enjoy the beautiful outdoors.

History - Walker Mansion, a beautiful Queen Anne Italianate of the Victorian Era was built in 1880 by famed architect, Thomas Sully, who designed many of the mansions on St. Charles Avenue during that period. The house was built for Colonel Joseph Walker, the Baron of the St Charles Railroad (now Streetcar). He was known as a "Swashbuckling Capitalist" who made his fortune in the gambling business, which was considered a less than honorable profession at that time.

About Candy 2

We (Candy & John) bought Walker Mansion in 2017 because we fell in love with its beauty, history, and charm. We split our time between Fort Lauderdale and New Orleans, so you may see us when you visit. (The yacht in the photo is not ours...we live across from Fort Lauderdale Marina.)

We split our time between New Orleans and Fort Lauderdale. We might be on-site during your stay...but when we are out of town, we are still available by phone, text, or e-mail to take care of your needs. Our housekeeping staff is local and we call on them occasionally when there are hiccups while we are gone. No worries, we will do everything we can to make your stay enjoyable.

Best part of out trip!

  • 5 of 5

The mansion was gorgeous! Tall ceilings, lovely decorations, and that dream kitchen! The room was very welcoming. It was clean and had everything we needed. Convenient to street cars and shops & restaurants on Magazine Street.

Candy was very prompt to answering my questions too.

We loved every minute we stayed there - Highly recommended!

The room fit us easily. My husband, daughter, and I.

The open shared spaces were beautiful and easy to use and navigate while still maintaining privacy.

Lovely home

  • 5 of 5

My daughter and I enjoyed staying at the Walker House and reading about it's history.

The house is beautiful and easy to reach via trolley. All of New Orleans was fun. We

would recommend it to anybody, the town and the house. We rate it a 5.

Great stay during Mardi Gras!

  • 5 of 5

We rented two rooms on the first floor and really enjoyed front row seats to Mardi Gras parades. The doors have auto locks with corresponding key codes which made us feel safe in a city that sometimes can have crime. High quality floor to ceiling curtains can be drawn to blackout room during the day and small bathtub with sepreated shower was perfect for out children. The bed and linens are very comfortable (we have high standards.) The home is so big that we barely heard or saw other renters which was surprising during a busy Mardi Gras weekend. We hgihly recommend and plan to rent again in the future. Thanks for sharing your home with us:)

Beautiful place and very convenient

  • 5 of 5

We had never been to New Orleans before so we weren't sure if this location would feel too far away from the French Quarter. We were VERY happy to have chosen this spot after all because it was easy to get on the streetcar to get where we wanted to go but far enough away from the crowds and craziness so that it felt like a peaceful retreat at the end of the day. We did a fair amount of walking around the Garden District and discovered Magazine Street with its pubs and boutiques. The mansion is beautiful and having access to a full kitchen was a great help!

Car: not necessary

Perfect location on St Charles Avenue in the Garden District. St. Charles is New Orleans most prestigious address, famous for beautiful tree-lined streets, huge Victorian Mansions, and the Street Car.
