About Rick and Laurie Gammill
Married for over 40 years with 3 children and 5 grandchildren. Rick is retired from the State of Texas and Laurie is a retired RN. We know that life is short so we love to have fun, spend time with our family and friends, travel and see as much of the good 'ol USA as possible. We fell in love with Ruidoso while on vacation and within a month of our visit we owned this amazing cozy home! One day we will live here full time, but for now we are happy to share!
Rick and Laurie Gammill purchased this House in 2017
Why Rick and Laurie Gammill chose Ruidoso
We were immediately drawn to this house because it is so unique! Built in 1940, but remodeled down to the studs, it has so much character and charm. Enclosed on 3 sides with decorative stucco walls and amazing old gates and doors, it is surrounded by tall pine trees and aspens towering over the property. In the mornings, after the sun rises over the mountains, wonderful natural light shines through the kitchen windows, as the kitchen faces due East. Only 1.3 miles to midtown and extremely convenient to all Ruidoso has to offer. Boredom is not optional in Ruidoso! With festivals galore, real genuinely friendly people, amazing weather, with 4 distinct seasons and no mosquitos! These are just some of the things that attracted us to this charming house in this very charming town.
What makes this House unique
This house has so much character! Updated yet with many the original attributes that the original owner chose in 1940. From the old wooden doors and iron gates to the original wood floors, it is all very unique. Three separate and very distant patios will make choosing where to sit outside a bit of a challenge!

Fun Family Roadtrip
We went on a long road trip staying at two house rentals and a hotel. The houses we stayed at were notably different. The simple touches at the Ruidoso Cabin make it feel nicer and more comfortable. Simple things like hand soap, clean rooms, not junky drawers, instructions on how to use the hot tub. It felt lived in and loved. Not rented and beat up like the second house we stayed in. I really liked that it was clear what we couldn’t use. The owner either had it marked or locked. I love good boundaries. These folks love their space, and we were grateful they shared it with us.
My only complaint was the traffic noise. It sits above a main thoroughfare. Down side - there’s not a lot of quiet mountain moments (this didn’t bother my husband AT ALL). Huge upside - it was convenient to most things in the village. It wouldn’t deter us from coming back!
We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay! It can get a little noisy in the afternoons and early evenings during the summer but it typically quiets down before bedtime, thankfully! We have also stayed in many vacation rentals and feel much the same way you do about them. Some are well taken care of, clean, and organized and some are not! It's important to me to have those things and we want our guests to feel comfortable and cared for! We welcome you and your family back anytime.
muy paclentera nuestra estancia una casa muy amplia y muy bien equipada.
We are so happy that you found everything you needed to make it enjoyable. You are always welcome back!
Really nice inside. The three patio areas are enjoyable. The neighborhood it is in is not lovely, so it is good that the stucco walls block exterior views from the patios... There are an abundance of wonderful trees. Owners are very responsive.
Happy you enjoyed and your family enjoyed your stay! We love the stucco walls that give us so much privacy in our little piece of heaven on earth! The neighborhood is mostly full of older cabins owned by people who visit just a couple of times a year...pretty typical for a Ruidoso neighborhood where the full time population is only 8K. Happy to have you back anytime!
Exactly what we wanted
This cute house was exactly what we were looking for. We had 4 adults and 6 kids ranging from 6-16. The kids loved playing the board games. And the adults enjoyed the deck and hot tub. Plenty of space for all of us.
We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay! The hot tub is just the perfect way to end the day!
Beautiful property and worth every penny!
This house is overall GREAT! There are 3 main bedrooms, 1 with 2 bunk beds which was perfect for our slightly large family! The house had a ton of stuff there for us if we just wanted a relaxing day inside, amazing Wi-Fi, Satellite TV w/tons of DVD options, a fireplace (that we used) and tons of board games that we had a blast with! A bonus feature for me was the hot tub & central heat! The kitchen has plenty of dishes (pots, pans, utensils), the bedrooms have all the blankets and pillows you need and you will never run out of towels, if you do there are two sets of washers and dryers to do laundry in. The showers were stocked with all the essentials. The property was very clean and well-maintained. The homeowners Laurie & Rick were extremely nice, we had actually booked the week prior and were able to move it to the following weekend without a problem. They were very understanding and didn’t charge us any kind of re-scheduling fee. Laurie also was quick to respond when I had any type of question about the local area. I highly recommend this property and will definitely be staying here again. Thanks for a great weekend.
Lisa, we are so happy that you and your family enjoyed your stay! Ruidoso has so many things to offer, all year long. Our property is special to us and we want it to be just as special to everyone who comes to stay. Come back any time!
Perfect house, close to everything!
What a wonderful stay in Ruidoso! We rented this property with two couples, one adult and three kids, ranging from 11 to 19. We couldn’t be more satisfied! This house is quaint and updated with a beautiful fireplace and kitchen. The hot tub and beds were perfect after Ski Apache.
(The pig collection never let us down!)
We will definitely be back!
