Just what we wanted!

  • 5 of 5

It was a great escape from life for the weekend. The views were amazing and the hot shower outside was great after a long 10 mile hike in big bend. Would come back again.

Beautiful desert sunrise

  • 4 of 5

This is a truly unique place to stay! It’s rustic but that’s part of the charm! The mountain sunrise out the bedroom window in the morning was amazing, great star-gazing and quiet and peaceful. It’s a back to nature, kind of camping experience. No shower except for a solar shower bag. Water use is limited as it’s rainwater. Bring some wood for the wood stove as evenings are chilly in December. The directions were easy to follow even after dark. Our teens were amazed there was wi-fi, and it was faster than many hotels. This place would not be good for people with young children or mobility issues as the loft railing is not safe for children and the stairs are steep without an outside rail and the main floor has an uneven stone floor. Kitchen was well supplied with equipment. It was about a half hour drive to Big Bend NP. We enjoyed staying here!

The Rio Grande river which boarders Texas and Mexico is a very fun river to raft or canoe depending on the time of year. Far Flung Outdoor Center, Desert Sports and Big Bend River Tours are all great local outfitters that can get you on the river for a fun experience.
