Welcome Home! A refreshing, private and magical gem located just minutes from Seneca State Forest, Wildwood is 5 acres of private retreat. Relax while staying in this 1920's-built home with a modern kitchen (new remodel 2017). We invite you to stroll along the edge of the pond, gaze at the stars and warm up next to the campfire. Our favorite thing -the sound: quieter than you can imagine, louder than you think! Close to Cass Scenic Railroad, Green Bank Observatory and Snowshoe Mountain Resort.
This quiet and private 5 acre property includes a spring-fed pond, several outbuildings and a lot of nature to view - deer are plentiful. The four bedroom house has three bedrooms and two full bathrooms upstairs (one off the master). The fourth bedroom is on the main-level, along with a living room, dining room, modern kitchen, and a half-bath. Wildwood also features a full-length front porch, a 10' x 18' back deck and an open breezeway that connects the main house with a separate apartment (currently not in use).
This is our HOME, but not where we currently live. We LOVE this place, but we do not live here full-time. Since we don't live in the area, you will have complete privacy during your visit - we will arrange for you to get the key before your stay.
An important note:
There is no cellphone service at the house but we do have wireless internet service and a landline with free long distance (within the U.S. and Canada) that you are welcome to use. Cell phone service for AT&T users is available in town (Marlinton - 15 minutes away).
Things to do:
Pocahontas County is a fun place and Wildwood is right in the middle of it! You can be in "Town" (Marlinton) in less than 15 minutes. Marlinton has a nice little coffee shop (The Dirt Bean, which has great character and AMAZING fish tacos!), a neat arts collective (Pocahontas County Artisan's Co-op) and a great little family-friendly music/theater venue (The Pocahontas County Opera House). To the north of us (a 30 minute or so drive) is the Cass Scenic Railroad and Green Bank which is home to the Green Bank Observatory and the center of the Radio Quiet Zone. Further up the road is Snowshoe Ski Resort, which is a 45 minute drive. If you like hiking and being outdoors (or just taking a beautiful country ride) the Greenbrier River Trail, Seneca State Forest, Watoga State Forest and Monongahela, Washington and Jefferson National Forests are close by too. This is a great location!
