Only 14 miles (20 minutes) from Tryon International Equestrian Center, with room for up to THREE horse trailers!
Allow me to welcome you to beautiful Western North Carolina! My home is located out a long driveway and has a secluded back deck completely surrounded by trees. If you want peace and quiet while still being within an easy drive of many great attractions, I would love for you to consider this property I travel quite extensively and I'm happy to share my home with you while I'm away. Help yourself to coffee! Disclaimer: You will be greeted by a dog or two, but they are completely harmless, and you WILL get a wave if you happen to pass one of my neighbors in the driveway. No worries. They will not intrude in any way but are there to help if you should need anything. I want you to enjoy your stay and will make every effort to make sure you have all the comforts of home :)
I have three roomy bedrooms, each with a brand new memory foam mattress. The floor plan is a split house design with the Master and the other two bedrooms separated by the kitchen/living room area. The Master Bedroom has a King Bed with an en-suite bathroom, including a jet tub. Each of the other two rooms has a Queen Bed and share a full bath, located in the hallway between the two bedrooms. A spacious back deck offers relaxation and solitude. I live here, but travel extensively, so it is a fully-stocked house with just about everything you may find yourself in need of (band-aids, cleaning supplies, basic toiletries, etc.)
Want to venture out for a delicious lunch or dinner but too tired to drive a long distance? If you're craving Thai, I highly recommend Rutherford Thai, just a short 10-12 minute drive away. This is authentic, delicious, Thai cuisine that draws folks from the Asheville area down the mountain. And if you're a fan of Greek, just behind the Thai restaurant is The Olive Tree. This is by far the best Greek food I've ever had. The dressing, which is homemade daily, is amazing. Finally, if you're a fan of Mexican, you must try Mi Pueblito, just a stone's throw on down the road. All these restaurants are located in the historic town of Rutherfordton and are easily found on Google Maps. You can also find several wonderful coffee shops in this same area. Main Street Coffee and Ice Cream is one of my favorites and is located on Main Street in Rutherfordton. Small Town Coffee Roasters is another. And, if you want to drive an extra 5-7 minutes to Forest City, my all-time favorite is Village Coffee. Just Google them! In the mood for a good, old-fashioned fish fry? Scoggins Seafood and Steak House (6.4 miles) comes highly recommended. It has a cute little bar/dining area if you prefer a more intimate setting than the main dining area offers. The locals love this place, so expect a crowd. If you're a wine connoisseur, you have several options within just a few miles as well: Parker-Binns Vineyard (7.2 miles); Overmountain Vineyards (10.4 miles); Mountain Brook Vineyards (10.8 miles); Russian Chapel Hill Winery (13.1 miles); Burntshirt Vineyards (19.5 miles) and of course, the Biltmore Estate Winery (30.8 miles) located on the gorgeous Biltmore Estate, a must-see! There are so many others as well. Prefer beer? Check out Yellow Sun Brewing Co (6.6 miles); Hickory Nut Gorge Brewery in Chimney Rock (10.8 miles), or Mills River Brewery (26.8 miles). There are many, many other breweries and cideries close by. Just ask Google!
Are you a fan of fall foliage? How about Dirty Dancing or Last of The Mohicans? Both were filmed, in part, in Lake Lure and Chimney Rock, a mere 15-20 drive from my home. While you're in Lake Lure, be sure to check out a few of my favorite spots: River Watch Bar & Grill (in Chimney Rock Village), Medina's Bistro (also in Chimney Rock Village), Larkins on the Lake in Lake Lure, and Lastrada, also in Lake Lure. There's even a public beach with water slides for the kids, a park with grills and picnic tables, a playground, tennis courts and a basketball court. These are located behind the Visitor Center in Lake Lure. Also, don't miss a beautiful stroll around the lake on the nicely maintained trail and boardwalk! You may be interested to know that in between the beach and the visitor center is a marina offering boat rentals and tours of the lake.
If you love the outdoors, you're looking at the right place. Chimney Rock State Park (Southern Living Magazine named Chimney Rock one of the South's Best State Parks in the May 2018 issue, and it's only 17 miles away)! Too many great hiking trails to count, a zip line only 5 miles west, horseback riding only a few miles away, gem mining, trout fishing, canoeing and/or list goes on and on!
Are you an equestrian? If so, have you heard of the Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC)? It's only 14 miles away. You can be there in 20 minutes (25 if you're not accustomed to traveling curvy roads :).
And I can't forget to mention the Biltmore House. Please check it out while you're here. It is located in Asheville, about 45-50 minutes west of here. You won't be disappointed with the beautiful drive and the Biltmore Estate is just breathtaking. Did you know it's the largest privately owned house in the United States at 178,926 square feet of floor space? It was built by Goerge Washington Vanderbilt II between 1889 and 1895 and has gorgeous gardens, a petting zoo for the kids, restaurants, ice cream (produced on-site), shopping, a winery where Biltmore Wines are produced, and so much more. They even do concerts on the veranda in the summer months. This is a wonderful day trip. You can spend an entire day on the estate and never run out of things to see and do. And Christmas at Biltmore is a sight to behold! For more information, visit
I've provided brochures many area attractions and activities. These can be found in a holder on the kitchen table. Please enjoy!
*Free wi-fi is provided as well as Netflix and Roku Free TV (password and instructions are posted on the fridge. Please leave directions on the fridge for future guests). I also have a small DVD collection.
*Note: My driveway is gravel and is a shared driveway. You can expect some dips and potholes (not deep). Just drive relatively slowly and you won't have any problems. I drive a Camry that sits very low to the ground and have no problems whatsoever. If it is raining, there may be mudholes. Sorry about that! I promise the location is worth it to be within such close proximity to so many beautiful things and still have the luxury of solitude :)
*There is NO smoking inside the house. Please. Cigarette butt disposals are provided on both the (covered) front porch and the back deck. Please be respectful and do not toss butts in the yard. Thank you so much.
Any questions? Please ask! I'm so excited to welcome you and have you enjoy my home while I'm away. :)
