Sanspice is a lovely 3 bedroom villa located in the San San resort area east of Port Antonio, Jamaica. It has the best view of San San bay overlooking the blue Carribean, Alligator head and Pellew Island. The best view in Jamaica.
Sanspice is ideal for travellers and families seeking to relax, enjoy the natural beauty of Jamaica and get away from urban surroundings. Meet with the staff after your arrival and choose your meals for the week. Sit down on the lanai and enjoy your coffee while hummingbirds and butterflies drift to and from flowers next to you. Lay down in a hammock to read a book. Go snorkeling, deep sea fishing, river rafting and return home for a massage.
Four world class beaches are nearby: San San beach and Frenchman's cove resort are a 10 minute hike down the hill. Boston bay and Long bay are minutes away by car and great for surfing. The Blue Lagoon is also a short walk away.
Boston Bay is great for the "jerk" spiced food, chicken, lobster or pork.
Sanspice is staffed with an excellent cook and gardener. They will do their best to make your vacation comfortable and enjoyable.

Great view, not worth the price
It's always best to start with the positives. The views at this house are gorgeous, breathtaking, all that great stuff! Also, it is extremely close to Frenchman's Cove; which is one of the most beautiful beaches in Portland. Unfortunately, the house is terrible and needs updating stat! First impression was terrible because the "road" leading to the house was unpaved and riddled with manholes; if your car is low get ready for pain. Then, beyond everything at the house being out of the 70s, there were huge roaches and lots of other unidentifiable bugs. Also, I wouldn't want to eat food that came out of that kitchen where the roaches seemed to be nesting. The beds were incredibly hard and uncomfortable, it was like sleeping on rocks. The staff on sight were nice, but there is definitely an issue of absentee landlord going on here. Not worth the price!
Thank you for your overnight stay at Sanspice and your positive comments about our nice friendly staff and spectacular view of the Caribbean Sea. The road to Sanspice and other neighboring villas in San San is neither owned nor operated by Sanspice. The wood furnishings and original artwork are locally hand crafted and custom made in Portland so there is not much in way of plastic or chrome. Sorry to hear that insects bothered you. We have a pest extermination control system schedule which we will review for more frequent application. Some of the 5 mattresses may be firmer than you are used to but certainly do not justify a comparison to sleeping on rocks. Lastly, there is no absentee landlord and the owners frequently stay on the premise.
The REAL Jamaica!
Stay here for a unique cultural experience- the REAL Jamaica. Jennifer and George will take care of you as far as meals, we asked for traditional Jamaican cuisine and they provided! The house is comfortable, but older, the beds are a little hard and there was no wifi, which we didn't mind. The view from the deck is absolutely amazing, especially in the morning, the grounds are gorgeous as well!
There are lots of things to do and see; Frenchman's Cove was beautiful and pampering, San San beach was not as clean, but had amazing snorkelling and Omar will take care of you, Reach Falls was fabulous as well. Be prepared to pay for everything like beach access, and constant tipping and beware of a few hustlers in Port Antonio.
Not recommended for those who love the resort type vacation, but for those who seek adventure and culture. Would go again in a heart beat!
To Really See Jamaica
So many tourists isolate themselves in gated all-inclusive resorts and miss the real Jamaica! If you want to see it, this is it! Although the trek is not easy from the Kingston airport at night, what an adventure! After transversing the Blue Mountains and traveling up the coast, you'll arrive in San San. You'll drive up a hill and may wonder if it is the right road. It is.
George has taken care of the property for many years, as has Dorothy. You'll be greeted warmly and a dinner will be ready for you. We were famished and felt so welcome. It took awhile to get our barrings, as we haven't traveled out of the country often, but once we did, we loved it! Reach Falls, a longer drive, is fantastic. Whoever thought you can hang out in a cave with a river flowing through? Slide into your cavern on a real water slide! Eat some Jerk Chicken in Boston Bay on the way to Long Beach. Check out Blue Pool. Check out Frenchman's Cove. Dunn Falls was neat, although popular. Swim in the ocean that glows in the dark in Montego Bay.
Dorthy is an excellent cook and will prepare authentic Jamaica dishes if you wish or set up a delivery of a TON of lobsters. Ask for Lobster Bisque or just eat it plain! As for Akee instead of eggs or that delicious Blue Mountain Coffee. Or eat what you're used to. She'll make that too.
This area is where Jamaicans go to vacation. That should tell you something. We brought two teenagers and what an experience! 4 years later, it's still one of the most memorable vacations I've had. Open-mindedness is a necessity if you haven't traveled abroad much.
The beds are a bit hard, but as you travel through the countryside, you'll notice that this IS Jamaica. It's a great base camp to see the best of Jamaica. George and Dorthy will take excellent care of you. You can wake up in the AM to a delicious breakfast and coffee, go out on an all-day adventure, and come back to a wonderful dinner! It's a world away, and we can't wait to go back. The view truly is spectacular. I can't imagine where in Jamaica you'd have a better view. If you feel like snorkeling over to that island you're looking at, go for it! Very cool.
