We are two families of Austin natives that love to escape to Rockport for sunny, salty fun! We've now owned this house for almost a decade and maintain it to high standards, which makes for very happy renters.
Wes: I grew up spending my summers in Rockport with family and this property has been the perfect place to create memories with my own kids. Rockport was my childhood escape to the water, wind and sky and this stunning house has helped me continue that tradition.
Stephen and Alyson: We grew up in Austin, but fondly remember so many trips to Port Aransas and Rockport throughout our childhoods — not many Austin kids can say they've hunted for Easter eggs in sand dunes! Whether it's fishing off a boat, crabbing in the surf, finding trinkets in the beach stores, enjoying groan-worthy seafood, or a cocktail on the back deck at sunset — the coast is always callin' our names!
We love the setting and location of this house… quiet enough for relaxation, but close enough to the action of Little Bay when you want it. Afternoon sun won't drive you from the deck, since this house has plenty of shade, and sunset won't find you shielding your face — it's perfectly framed down the canal. The ample parking has always been a plus, given how many it sleeps — a car for each bedroom, plus a couple of extras, isn't a problem. A great restaurant and bar, Chart Room/Grog Bar, are less than a mile away, which is a perfect start to every stay. Salud to Good Times at SkyWater!
Echo what the previous reviewers have said. There are some issues (issues that just occur with homes on the coast: doors sticking/ not working, a slight mildew smell downstairs, etc.) with the house but overall it was a great place to gather with a large group of friends. The upstairs is a perfect entertainment space. There's a HUGE fabulous table where everyone can sit/ share a meal. I would definitely recommend and many of the friends I was there with said they'd like to rent it out again for another reunion. Owner is very quick to respond.
Stayed here in July of 2016.
The house has potential to be very nice if maintained.
Neither boat lift worked. Broken down. Looked like they'd been that way for awhile.
No chest-of-drawers in the entire house to allow unpacking if staying for awhile. We left our suitcases open on the floor.
Ice machine was great. Beds were comfortable. Lots of parking out front. In a highly desirable location in Key Allegro.
Again, the house has potential. Owner needs to do a little more investing to make it highly recommendable.
My family stayed here for Thanksgiving 2015. This stay got off to a rocky start, as I was charged above what I was quoted on VRBO. I brought this up to Wes multiple times, including forwarding my quote, and looking up my two payments to him, but he just stopped responding to me, and the issue was not resolved. Shame on me for trusting and blindly paying over the phone, but shame on him also for not even wanting to talk to me to make it right. This obviously put a bitter taste in my mouth going into this rental, even though it was only $150.
The house is fairly nice and the bed situation is well represented in the photos. There were plenty of places for us to sleep and we had 16 in our party. The upstairs has a very nice common area with a large TV great for watching a game, and the dining area is excellent, and really allowed us to have a nice Thanksgiving meal with seating for almost everyone. The setup is a bit loud however, so if you have a lot of little kids (like we did) then don't expect to have a lot of peace and quiet in this place because everything is fairly close together. The back porch is very nice also, with tons of decking and space. Parking is also excellent. You could easily park 4-5 cars out front. Also multiple entrances to the home to allow for some privacy from floor to floor.
One of the primary reasons for selecting this property was the pool. We wanted an activity for our kids to do, so I even sent emails specifically asking about the heated pool, since it was initially listed but there were no pictures. The pool is very small. Probably 8 feet wide by 16 feet long or so. It looks more like a large Jacuzzi, and wasn't exactly what I was expecting. I could live with this, but the heater also would not work. I sent a text asking about this with no response. I later sent a follow up and was told by Wes that he would call the pool guy. Well the pool guy never showed and I never received any follow up. The heater never worked and we were not able to use one of the main features that we booked for. Again, very disappointing and not what I have come to expect from a VRBO experience.
I personally would not stay here again. Not necessarily because of the property, but much more how my interactions with the owner went. Still believe I am owned money on this rental, and this is not even considering the fact that the pool was not usable the entire stay.
Our family vacation was very enjoyable and the house accomodated all 3 families. The place is very well kept, well designed, and spacious. We will definatley be back to visit this house on future vacations.
My family recently spent the Thanksgiving holidays in this beautiful home. It is a wonderful home for our multi-generational group, providing a large living room as well as separate spaces with the nice size bedrooms and baths. The outdoor decks were great for morning coffee, reading, and just relaxing.
I have to rate the home down to 3 stars due to the elevator not working, causing great challenges for the older generation. The wi-fi was also not working..which made us all concentrate on each other and not the work left behind. However, it was a challenge to be off the grid. Hopefully these will be fixed for the next visitors.
All in all a great place.
WE HAD SUCH AN AMAZING TIME IN THIS HOME! 16 PEOPLE VACATIONED WITH US, INCLUDING 6 KIDS AND THERE WAS PLENTY OF ROOM FOR ALL! OUR KIDS MADE SOME OF THE BEST MEMORIES TOGETHER. YOU CANT GO WRONG WITH THIS HOME. ITS CLOSE TO EVERYTHING, AND EVEN IF YOU DONT WANT TO LEAVE THE HOME, THE BACK DECK IS PERFECT FOR ENTERTAINING KIDDOS AND ADULTS! PERFECT, JUST PERFECT FOR EVERYONE!
If you're staying for longer than a weekend, make plans to take the ferry to Port Aransas for a day — have lunch at Trout Street, buy some beach toys in the fun shops, take a photo in the giant shark, grab some Blue Bell Ice Cream at Desserted Island, and catch some rays on the beach!
