The boat is newly renovated with bamboo floors, birch walls and pine beadboard ceilings. If you have never stayed overnight in a boat, but always wanted to, this is a great first step. The boat is appointed like a house and has large spaces....but it is floating and does give you the experience of living "aboard".
Parking is available for free for one car per room right next to the boat at the listing address.
There is almost always someone around to help with any questions, help to coordinate or arrange activities, etc. Breakfast is served in the morning and includes fruit and bagels as well as coffee and tea.
Oyster Bay Marina is located right in the heart of Fort Myers Beach. You can walk to Bootleggers BBQ, Parrot Key Caribbean Grille, Doc Fords and many more. The beach is 1/2 a mile a way and easily accessible via a short walk or bike ride.
You can bring a car, Uber/Lift are readily available, we have bikes for use for free as well as skateboards. There is also a water taxi that runs during the busy season available via phone to pick you up right off the boats!
This is a water lover's paradise. We can arrange scuba, snorkeling, fishing, spearfishing from local guides and they will pick you up at the boat. We have kayaks and bikes available for use on a first come first serve basis. Paddle the backwaters or take a cruise down to Lover's Key! We rent paddleboards by the day if you want to try something a little harders. From our location you have easy access to Matzanas Pass and all of the bay behind Ft Myers Beach. Estero Bay Aquatic Preserve is just a few miles down the coast and this pristine area is yours for the exploring. We are also just a short drive (3 miles) from Sanibel (URL HIDDEN) of the shelling capitals of the world! If you choose to head out to the beach for the day, we have chairs, coolers and more you can borrow to make your day more enjoyable. If you just want to hang out at our place, we have cornhole, a bocce court and a small man made beach area for you to relax on as well. Or, never leave the boat and just jump in the rooftop hot tub and enjoy the view! (open from 11am till 10pm). We can arrange massages on site as well! Basically, just ask and we can help you find whatever you need!

Neat boat - Disappointing experience
Received address and gate/boat access codes a few days prior to our stay. We emailed the owner requesting more details – no response. We arrived to find the bedroom doors locked – no codes provided. Contacted owner’s phone number from our VRBO instructions - no answer, left a message.
A guest in a different boat offered a different phone number to call. Connected with the local boat attendant. Door codes provided - bedrooms opened. It really is a neat boat. We experienced functional issues that made our stay frustrating. Some outlets did not work until later in our stay. The boat attendant reset the breakers on the panel labeled ‘DO NOT TOUCH’. The hot tub never did get hot. Temperature set to 101 and covered. Returning later, the temperature had reset itself to 80. Boat attendant said if the power is reset on the hot tub, the temperature defaults to 80.
The boat has electromagnet locks on doors with keycode panels on each door. No instructions identified how these doors functioned without power. Can anyone get into the boat if the power is shut-off? On the 3rd night the boat lost all power. We contacted owner and boat attendant: no answer…left a message. Waiting for a return call we tried to figure out why the boat had no power. Shore & Ship electrical cables appeared connected and the boat next to ours had power. There was a man working on shore next to the boat dock. He said he worked on the boats sometimes and I told him about the power issue. He told me he had shut-off a breaker on the shore power and didn’t realize that breaker controlled our boat power. He reset that breaker on a shore breaker box and the power restored. Was this guy the culprit of our intermittent power issues during our stay? Once power was restored, I called the boat owner to let him know the issue was resolved. Again…no answer and I left a message.
Positive notes: We found food in the refrigerator upon arrival. We thought maybe the previous guest had left it behind. In the morning, the boat attendant told us the food was for us to use to cook breakfast. The boat attendant was very helpful. The beds were comfortable.
The property owner at my last VRBO property put together a book with every detail and instruction I could possibly need. Having to figure things out during my stay on the boat made it feel like work instead of a vacation.
To this date, my deposit was returned in full and the owner never returned a single phone call.
This was a great experience!
Totally loved staying on the house boat! Would definitely do this again. We enjoyed the freedom to come and go. It was great to have a hot tub and place to sit and enjoy the sunshine.
Wonderful vacation spot!
We loved staying on the boat. It was so comfortable and relaxing. There was so much to see and do. We spent time just sitting on the deck watching boats and wildlife. My girls had fun with the kayaks and paddle board too.
Amazing "Laid Back" Experience
We enjoyed our time spent aboard the Laid Back. The photos accurately reflect the accomodations. This was the coolest rental I've ever stayed in! Good location - nice views of the water and restaurants within walking distance. Quick 20 minute or so drive out to Sanibel/Captiva. The owner was very responsive to messages and requests - he stays in another boat at the same dock, making it easy to have requests addressed. And getting to love on his yellow lab, Ronin, was an added benefit of the trip!
If you're renting a room on the Laid Back rather then the whole boat, the owner has great security features on place to ensure each individual room is secure when its door is shut. Feel confident that your things would be safe with another party renting the other room.
The only thing for renters to be aware of is the turn in to the parking area - my party arrived after dark (heavy traffic on nearby islands as people were leaving the beach - plan accordingly) and had a bit of a difficult time finding the address. After looking at it during the day, there's a B&B Aboard flag on the fence and the houseboats have blue LED lights along the roofs. The "gate code" is for a padlock, which wasn't exactly what we were expecting and added to some of our confusion in the dark. The google maps directions to the property were accurate. Once we sorted out the location and access, we were good to go.
