1-3 Bedrooms available in Owner Occupied Historic Mansion in heart of Downtown!

Bedrooms 3
Property type house

About the property

This historic Federal style mansion was built in 1810 and completely renovated in 2004, maintaining all the interesting historical elements while offering modern conveniences. The location of the property is A1, located directly on the Salem Common in downtown, walking distance to restaurants, shopping, train, ferry to Boston, museums, etc. Sit on the rear deck with a glass of wine to relax after a day in Salem and enjoy the koi pond fountain and English garden, or the companionship of the home's Labrador Retriever. Homeowner can provide recommendations on local sites and restaurants.

About David Jones

I bought this house in 2002 and completely renovated it. I live here with my Labrador Retriever Fergus and on occasion rent out the 4 extra bedrooms, generally in October. Having lived in the Boston area for 35 years and Salem for 15, I have a strong knowledge of the local restaurants and attractions. I can also give you a bit of a history tour of the house over a glass of wine!

Why David Jones chose Salem

I bought this house after returning from a big gamer hunting trip in Africa and needed the room for the trophies (yes, there are several on the 3rd floor). It's much more house than I need but just such a great location in a fun town, I've stayed.

What makes this house unique

Walk everywhere, restaurants, museums, ferry, train, beach...

"Charming but Misleading"

  • 3 of 5

Second time visiting Salem and this was booked last minute...This home is a Large beautiful Landmark, and Is great central location for Salem events and activities. It basically runs as a (partial) bed and bed and breakfast.... Homeowners were very nice and provided us towels and parking for the street. They were also knowledgeable locals that could provide us with info about our stay.... We also received complimentary continental breakfast with coffee. **Unfortunately the you are only renting out the room so you have to share a bathroom with the other guest members, which is listed all the way at the end of the hotel amenity description section... Additionally the bathrooms were (NOT) clean, and was definitely not serviced and maintained throughout our stay....Towels and bathmats were also not refreshed. *(MAKE SURE TO READ ALL THE FINE PRINT BEFORE BOOKING)*. Would probably not book again, especially after a long travel.

Salem is considered the Halloween capital of the world! But it is also a historical marine port. With over 40 restaurants and bars in walking distance it is also a favorite amongst foodies.
