Overview

About the property

Cabin, Studio + Other (See Description), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

My husband and I found Volcano Village about 20 years ago. It was our dream to purchase property there, and we did just that! We built a small magical little cabin. For many years we enjoyed it ourselves from time to time, and on occasion our friends and family would go and stay at the cabin. Each time we always heard the same things... How beautiful it was, how inspiring it felt, and how they just never wanted to leave. So a Few years ago we put it on the market as a vacation rental.

The cabin is a huge cabin/studio, it offers a very large bathroom with a Large soak tub, a stand up shower, full washer & dryer, full size kitchen, dining area, sitting room with a view of the forest and a gorgeous gas fireplace. We just put in a brand NEW queen size pillow top mattress that makes you feel like you are really sleeping in the clouds and though there is a large picture window just above the bed so as you lay there you can keep your eyes on the Big Dipper.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Genevieve & Rev,

Thanks very much for your note! We had a wonderful time in the Big Island and loved your cabin. This was the highlight of our trip. The cabin was private, peaceful, well decorated, and very relaxing! We hope to have an opportunity to stay here again in the future. We will definitely recommend your cabin to our friends. Although we decided not to bring our laptop this time, the availability of wireless internet was a strong consideration when selecting your cabin.

Rainforest retreat

  • 4 of 5

This is a spacious cabin nestled in really tall ferns that feels like you're in a tree house. The ceilings are high, large windows look out onto lush vegetation, full kitchen and huge bathroom. There's a gas fireplace to take the chill off and it's a short drive to the national park. We enjoyed our stay very much. There was no cell phone service, but there is a land line and there is wifi. We would stay again and will recommend to friends.

A Gem of a Cottage

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I loved staying in this spacious and beautiful cottage. The bathroom is HUGE, which was a welcome change from the tiny one we were dealing with in a previous condo. The place was spotless when we arrived and so comfortable and cozy to come home to after a long day at the national park (which is just a ten-minute drive away). Dennis was great with responding to any questions we had and provided thorough instructions for anything we would need to use during our stay. I'd highly recommend this cottage for a couple looking for a romantic setting while they explore the Volcano area.

very nice cabin

  • 5 of 5

very nice cabin. The owner is very nice and easy to work with. He responds quickly to any questions you may have. The water heater went out during our stay, but the owner refunded our money for one of our night stays. We would stay here again.

Perfect

  • 5 of 5

Cute little house minutes from the park. Comfortablely, inviting, and such an experience to stay surrounded by giant ferns. It felt like we were in Jurassic park! It was the perfect place to stay while we explored the volcanoes. We are completely blown away by everything we've seen. What an unforgettable trip!

Missing small things...

  • 4 of 5

This is a big studio with plenty of space, surrounded by ferns on all sides. Just a quick visit to Walmart could fix the niggles from a renters' perspective:

- There are 3 totally mismatched wine glasses

- There are only 2 spoons for cereal

- The knives are totally blunt

- There are no surfaces, a coffee table would help - you have to pack up your laptops to make space for dinner, clear and move the bedside table to make a surface to play scrabble and the sofa is so small that you both sit pointing forwards like in a waiting room!

- there are 4 pillows but only 3 pillow slips

- the driveway was so rutted our little rental car risked bottoming out on every journey

With an AirBnB you expect these quirks but with a VRBO holiday home I thought there would be some basic rules. Yes this rental was inexpensive, but 4 days of vacation are very precious too.

Oh, and I forgot, when we arrived, the house had not been cleaned but thanks to the lovely cleaner came over 20 minutes after we called, saying the owner had not told her of the check-out.
