Great location, lots of character
Great location as it was an easy walk to the town and the beach. Beautifully decorated house. Bill was a wonderful host. He was easy to reach, met us upon arrival, and was available for questions during our stay. Well stocked kitchen and house with a lot of supplies available for guest use. Great large dining space and living room that allowed our large party to gather. Quiet and secluded yard. Only downside was that the beds could use upgrading as the mattresses were quite stiff. We would definitely stay here again!
As the owner I’d just like to clarify the mattresses. They are brand new this season and ordered as firm after consulting my past guests preferences.
Stunning, Spacious Property
Our family met at Barntucket in August for a week to celebrate a birthday, a new grandchild and an upcoming wedding! There were six adults and an infant and we all felt like we had privacy when desired, as well as comfortable, spacious public rooms in which to gather for celebration. The property was the perfect size for us with its large bright, cheery two bedroom apartment upstairs which accommodated our son, his wife and new baby.
The master bedroom with king bed was beautifully decorated and had plenty of storage space. The queen bedroom was welcoming and nicely appointed as well. We did not need to use the double bed bedroom but could see that it was also delightful although somewhat smaller than the queen bedroom.
Our son had to conduct some business while visiting and was able to use his computer in the private office which is off the living room.
The apartment is yellow and has charming decor throughout. The kitchen is well equipped and is quite large. The dining area adjoins the kitchen. There is an inviting living room as well as two twin bedrooms. The apartment is very private which meant we weren't awakened by the baby crying in the night upstairs.
We barbecued one night and enjoyed cooking in the generous kitchen. The dining table seats 8 and there is an enormous gorgeous set of dishes for your use.
The bathrooms have plush towels and there is an outdoor shower as well. We appreciated being able to use the beach towels and beach chairs which were provided. The option to use the washer/dryer was extremely convenient.
We loved spending time in the side yard on the lounge chairs with comfy cushions. It was the perfect place for breakfast! The back yard with its hydrangeas and manicured garden was one of my favorite places to spend time.
The location was excellent! It was within walking distance to town yet was far enough away to have some quiet.
Our host was wonderful! He was extremely helpful and responsive when asked, yet also respected our privacy. This is the ideal spot for a large gathering!
Beautiful home!! Great location!!
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Barntucket! The home was so inviting and cozy and offered plenty of space for our annual mothers & daughters trip. Town, Steps and Jetties beach were all within walking distance. The kitchen is stocked with everything you need for a meal at home or a bbq on the lovely patio. The set up of the home is perfect for big families with a second kitchen and family room on the upper level. We will definitely be coming back! Bill, thank you so much for everything, you could not have been more accommodating and charming! We would highly recommend staying at Barntucket!
Warm, comfortable. A home away from home.
Fantastic. Children and Grandchildren occupy second-floor with full amenities while family events happen on the first floor where the grandparents stay, Everything is close. Shopping and restaurants in walking distance. Relaxation personified.
Barntucket: A warm, inviting and comfortable home to spend our biennial family reunion
Our family came from (literally) around the world to meet for a 2-week summer vacation in Nantucket. We loved our time at Barntucket and would highly recommend this property to others. Here's why:
1) Bill is an amazing host/landlord. He cares about every aspect of your stay. He was responsive and engaged throughout the planning process. When we finally arrived, Bill graciously welcomed us and we felt like family. Because Barntucket is located directly next door to Bill's home, he was always available, even on short notice. We really enjoyed his stories about the island and many recommendations about what to do and where to dine
2) The house is in a great location - walking distance to the beach and downtown (about 10 minutes) but far enough away to be out of the fray
3) The property is beautifully landscaped - -lots of shade in the backyard, tons of Nantucket's finest hydrangeas and other flowering shrubs....just gorgeous. The patio area sports a large gas grill and picnic table for outdoor dining
4) We spent quite a few nights cooking family dinners and loved the open (and well-stocked) kitchen and extra large dining room which comfortably accommodated our entire brood
5) It was really nice having so many bedrooms and bathrooms, the two floors, etc. Always good to be together but also enough space for some privacy. We were in Nantucket during two record-hot weeks and the house was always cool and comfortable. This was especially welcoming after our long bike rides to/from Sconset, Wauwinet, and Madaket!
6) Though we all tried to unplug from work - it was extremely helpful to have consistent WIFI/internet access (when needed). Also lots of TV's, etc. for any binge watching
We have lots of great memories from our time at Barntucket and will definitely call Bill if we plan to return to Nantucket on a future vacation
Barntucket is a treasure! It is an exguisite home full of art and antiques yet the feel is relaxed.
Our family of ten, ranging from a one year old to seventy-two years young had a delightful vacation on Nantucket. Our "home away from home", Barntucket was everything I hoped it would be, and more! Three generations and three cooks under one roof can be a challenging situation- I think because of the vastness of the space of Barntucket and the gourmet kitchen we just delighted in each others company! Barntucket is a cozy home in spite of its size. I was completely charmed by it's provenance and the pure joy for the place our gracious host, Bill Hokkenan exudes.
It is always my goal when choosing a vacation home to have a spot we can gather comfortably for meals. Morning and night we enjoyed our meals at that wonderful dining room table, we celebrated three birthdays, all the more special, because of where we were. Depending on the evening temperatures we played games on the screened porch or around the table, we loved all the games and puzzles tucked away in the old drawers and cupboards.
Although we have visited Nantucket many times over the years we have never had a family gathering in town. The location of Barntucket is PRIME for walking to town and enjoying all the beaches along Cliff Road and going to Something Natural on a whim.
I think the last weeks in June is a fabulous time on Nantucket. We had plenty of beach days, the island is not overly crowded and does not have "tired" feeling I have noticed on late summer visits.
As grandmother myself, I live by my own grandmother's adage, "Why would I go anywhere that is not as nice or nicer than home?" I found my spot, Barntucket.
The owner, Bill, takes pristine care of this property. He is available to answer any questions about the entire island ( where is a strawberry stand? ) I come from a very long line of New Englander's and feel I know a "keeper" when I meet one, Bill's generous and kind spirit wanting us to have the best vacation experience on Nantucket endeared him to me immediately. Thank you from all ten of us!
Upscale residential neighborhood just up the street from the Oldest House and around the corner from 'Something Natural', Nantuckets' premier sandwich shop and bakery.
