Step back in time into Victorian grandeur as you experience 19th century woodworking craftsmanship, original oak paneling, maple wood floors, stained glass windows, high ceilings, and an elaborate oak staircase. At 3500 sq/ft (basement not included) this spacious, lavishly furnished Victorian home with mountain views, boasts four bedrooms, a formal living room, a formal dining room, a large family room, (600 sq ft), and comfortably sleeps 14 in beds. Beautifully updated with new floors, a fully-equipped eat-in kitchen, wifi accessibility, this home away from home transports you to Leadville’s mining boom gilded era with all the luxuries of modern living.

Whether you are visiting for Leadville’s historic landmarks, enjoying recreation opportunities, or in need of rest and relaxation, The Doc & Ruth Kehoe House is the perfect getaway spot. Built in 1888 during Leadville’s historic Silver Boom days The Kehoe House has changed ownership several times. It was an inn prior to being purchased by Doc John Kehoe and Ruth Kehoe (my maternal grandparents) where they raised my mother and her eleven siblings. The Doc& Ruth Kehoe House is conveniently located in the heart of downtown Leadville, in walking distance to all coffee shops and pubs, just a few minutes from Dutch Henry tubing/Sledding hill and 15 minutes by car to Ski Cooper.

***The finished basement accessed form the back room is Perfect for storing Bikes for the Leadville races. The house's side entrance that connects to the back room of the house allows racers to enter through the side door without the stress of dragging mud or bikes through the entrance and Victorian furnishings.

So go on, Come Race this August!!

Or simply come ski, hike, fish, bike-- invite your friends and family, get away from the hustle and bustle and head up to The Doc & Ruth Kehoe House.

About Nawal and Thomas

I am an engineer, my wife is an educator and writer, and both working and living in beautiful Colorado.

Nawal and Thomas purchased this house in 2017

Why Nawal and Thomas chose Leadville

My wife and I have both lived and traveled around the US and the world but there’s something about Leadville. It could be because I was born and raised in Leadville for a short time or that many members of my family have at some point lived, worked, and are buried in Leadville. My grandfather Doc Kehoe’s name humbly graces the plaque outside St. Vincent’s Hospital and my grandfather French managed and grew the Federal Fish Hatchery which is still operating just west of Leadville.

When the opportunity to purchase the Doc & Ruth Kehoe House came about, my wife and I were willing to make the investment. My family’s home has changed ownership several times, and by the time we acquired it this year, it was in dire need of love and attention. From paint to flooring, curtains to bedding, we set up the house as a family home away from home, and we are excited to share The Kehoe House with you.

What makes this house unique

We love the stained glass windows, the luxurious Victorian furnishings, and the grand staircase. Most of all, we love the nostalgia and memories that sweep over us. We walk in and it immediately feels like we are home.

A great combination of historical charm and modern comforts

  • 5 of 5

Great for families or large group getting together and enjoying Leadville or the great outdoors. House has historical charm, but enough modern updates/ comforts/ conveniences to relax at the end of the day.

Excellent Experience

  • 5 of 5

The Kehoe house was our first vacation rental. Naturally we were apprehensive of moving into a residence for our vacation. The Owners eased our concerns by sending a detailed guide to navigate around the house as well as the City. The Owners were always available with quick responses which made for a stress free and pleasant experience. The House was adequately stocked with enough supplies until you are ready for your grocery run. We would certainly use the Kehoe House the next time we vacation in Leadville.

This is an awesome property!

  • 5 of 5

This house was perfect for our ski trip. We had three families with kids and the bedrooms were set up perfectly to accommodate this. There was plenty of room, we had everything we needed. The beds were comfy, the house was cozy and the hosts were very easy to work with. The house is very old, so there are creeks in the wood floor but they have done a wonderful job updating it. The large family room was perfect for all of us to gather. There are only a couple games in the cabinet but we had some great family time playing with them.

There were 13 of us in the house so we had to time some of our bathing in the morning and some at night as you will run out of hot water by shower number 6. Other than that our stay was perfect. If we decide to head back to Leadville, we will definitely want to stay again.
